Good Projectors for cieling mount at 30 feet

We're kind of in a unique situation compared to most of the mosts that I've seen in that our ideal setup would be mounting our projector about 30 ft. from the projection wall. Our living room has a vaulted cieling until the 30 ft. mark where the dining area comes into play and the room splits into two floors... effectively we want to mount the projector below the balcony area. The wall on which the projection would go is plenty big to fit whatever image we need, but I've been doing some preliminary research and it looks like a lot of projectors have problems at distances over 20 feet?

We're definitely looking at 720p as this is primarily going to be used for next-gen gaming. Anyone have any advice for brands/models to look at?

Are you planning on using it during the day time? If so, can you control the light into it? You'd be suprised at what just a little light can have on the image..

And at 30ft you'd be suprised at how that wall will not be big enough if you're under estimating the screen size at that distance.. What's the Height X Length of said wall the screen will be on or image?

If you're going for a bargin bin FP then it might not be bright enough at that distance with the size it will project.. But if your LR is completely dark then it might be ok..

You are going to want something bright with a long throw. The panasonic ax100 or its upcomming replacement the ax200 would be a good choice. With the lens 30" from the screen you are still looking at a 146" screen.

An Epson 810 will do 135 inches at 30feet , but is a bit overpriced. You can get the European version the TW700 from www.p ricejapan.com for less, but you will have to mail it back to them for warranty service.

www.dbuys.com claims to sell the tw700 with a USA warranty

I would look into making a DIY screen with high gain. Check out the DIY screen forum. A retail high power screen at that size is going to be about $850

We're looking to spend around $1200-$1600 on the projector, so the options you guys have mentioned seemed like pretty good candidates.

The wall is definitely big enough to accomodate 135-145"

Unfortunately they place has a lot of windows and lighting control really isn't an option. We're going to be leaving a TV in the space for daytime viewing and the projector is going to be an evening/night-only affair.

I'll definitely take a look into some DIY screen options as we'd no doubt like to spend the money on a better projector over the screen

You can do what I did and make your own screen like you mentioned.. All I did was buy that wall puddy used to cover holes, it's white.. Then mix your own flat white 5 gal. and pint black but only use very little of the black to only make the white a little off white.. It takes alot of the puddy, about 5 gals or so for me to make a 102". You will of course need alot of sand paper and a shop vac for the dust.. But it is no doubt in my case alot better than spending 200+ on a screen.. Then go online to by some nice border wood..

All in all less than 75 bucks..

That's pretty sweet! ... A lot of manual labor, but I can image it working out really nicely in the end and the cost savings is more than worth it, thanks for the tips danieloneil.

Per your suggestions, we're leaning toward the TW700. Are there any issues with it being, as you say, "The European Version."? Or is it just that we have to import it? Are there any PAL vs. NTSC issues and such? (You can tell I've never owned a projector before )

Also, what about standard def content? I assume that something that came out in 2006 would have no problems switching aspect ratios but I figured I should ask since I couldn't find any info on that.
