Have had a chance to listen to my Genesis SACD's and have been enjoying them throughly.

I really don't know why they got some bad reviews, as I find the sound quality quite pleasing.

Have found most of the Genesis SACD's have a good surround mix and make good use of the surround channels.

Some of my personal favorites for songs and sound quality are : Invisible Touch, Genesis/Genesis, Abacab, and Trick of the Tail.

Many of these are now becoming out of print.
If you don't have them I would suggest getting them soon before the prices start going up up up.

Give "Duke" a listen. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the sound quality of that album.

Thanks,

Styln

Just a brief PSA - if you're interested in Bjork, her album Medulla is available at Amazon UK for a reasonable price ($20<). This is out of stock at most retailers and is going up in price. If you're interested, it's a good time / price to snap it up.

Did you get one from Amazon UK?

The reason I'm asking is I have ordered several SACD's from Amazon UK recently, only to have them tell me they couldn't get them, even though they were in stock at the time I ordered them.

I have the "Duke" SACD and have found it to be right up there sound quality wise with the other Genesis SACD's.

"Misunderstanding and "Turn it on Again" are probably my favorites off of "Duke".

Thanks JJHXBR. Musically, it's one of my all time favorite albums, but
I find the presentation to be highly compressed in both frequency and dynamic range, making it hard (or at least sad) to listen to.

I'm glad that you enjoy it.

Listened to Moody Blues "To Our Children's Children's Children" and "On The Threshold Of A Dream" last night. "Children" was good, but didn't wow me. "Dream" however was stunning! Released less than a year apart - with Dream being first, I would have thought that the production would have been the same, but Dream sounded more dynamic and open.

I've not had any unfulfilled orders from Amazon UK yet after ordering from them a dozen times or so. That said, yes I did get Medulla from Amazon UK, though it was some time ago.

I love all my Moody Blues SACD releases.
However, I prefer the mix of the DTS-CD version.

I recently listened to "Days of Future Passed" and "On The Threshold Of A Dream" and felt the same way.
"Dream" sounded great but "Days' just didn't wow me.
Was really hoping "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Night's in White Satin" sounded as good as "Lovely to see you" on the "Dream" SACD.
I was pretty shocked the production of these Moody Blues SACD's are so dramatically different.

I think it goes back to the quality of the production at the time. Days, I think, was a location recording. I can't explain offhand the difference between the nearly contemporaneous Threshold and Children's.

I was under the impression that the SACD mixes were from the QUAD masters other than the missing one no?

Yes, they are from the Quad Masters but I didn't hear anything about a "Missing One". Which one is this? And what I meant to say was that I prefer the DTS-CD mix of "Days Of Future Passed", which uses all five channels versus the SACD.

The difference between Threshold and Children's might be the somewhat more extensive layering of the latter. I think that the Children's SACD definitely sounds miles above (pun intended) any stereo mix of the recording. However, I do prefer to use Threshold, and especially Lovely to See You as a demonstration of the benefits of a multi-channel presentation of a Moody Blues recording over the stereo version.

I have noted that the surround mixes have not noticeably changed the sound of the elements with respect to "wetness" and depth. Everything fits together the same as in the stereo mixes except, of course, I am in the band instead of in the audience in front of it.

I stopped by Tunes in Marlton New Jersey this morning. Anyone looking for Elton John SACDs needs to give them a call they had five of the hybrid SACDs for $11 to $12 each. Elton John, Honkey Chateau, Madman Across the Water, Captain Fantastic and Tumbleweed Connection. Anyone interested should look up tunesonline.net

I actually picked up Eric Clapton's Slowhand for $11. I think someone at Tunes is hop to the used SACD business as they have raised the price of some Dylan Digipaks to upwards of $27.

Cheers,

Another Amazon UK PSA -
They currently claim to have Art of Noise - Daft SACD in stock (Prime Eligible, Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk) for a decent price. Might be worth taking a chance on if you've been looking for this long OOP, import only title.
