If I had known you were looking I would have sold my copy for $600.00 shipped. I'm good like that.

If you have a multiregion player, there's a european Roxy Music - Live At The Apollo (DVD, 2002) at $10 BIN on ebay.

This ones a steal at $399.00 plus $2.98 for shipping.

Well, perhaps true for that first seller (regarding their shipping fee), which seems to move enough product through Amazon to be large enough to sign up for a higher-tier "professional" type of seller account with Amazon. If so, then they could have had the option to offer "free" shipping.

The second seller though, offering the disc for a "more reasonable" $399, I'm sure they had no say about the shipping fee. That's dictated by Amazon. A small-time seller like that one (only 41 sales feedbacks) can't offer "free shipping", even if they had wanted to. $2.98 is standard and set in stone for them.

At best, a Pyrrhic victory. Not exactly 'art of the deal' material. I bet that seller would easily have come down another $50 and perhaps double or triple that if only asked.

When my money-growing tree finally begins sprouting Benjamin leaves, I suppose I wouldn't care either.

Only the special "Sympathy for the Devil" performed by 4 or 5 different groups including RS was MCh SACD. Outstanding treat!!!

The Sympathy for the Devil SACD is a hybrid SACD and not a SHM-SACD. I do believe you are correct in that Sympathy for the Devil is the only Stones SACD that is MCH though.

I have Thriller. Don't recall off hand if it's SACD or DVD-A. I'd sell it in a heartbeat for half that. I don't recall what I paid, but it was no where near that. That's silly. No offense meant to anyone.

Yeah Im kidding...

The sacd goes for around 100 normally on ebay

I'm pretty sure this sacd is only a 2ch sacd. And I read somewhere once upon a time that supposedly the Japan release I forget what year maybe 2008-2010 is the best sounding thriller cd that's available. Wether or not that's true, who knows.

it is stereo. i put it on when i first bought it and was not impressed. i'll listen to it again when i get a chance. i should probably put it on ebay if i don't think it measures up.

I got Thriller SACD for $16 on Amazon in 2005.
I think it's amazing, I've only heard negative comments about the bass but there is nothing lacking on the bass of this album.

Most recent purchase - just ordered Dire Straits - Love Over Gold SHM-SACD. If it's as good as the self-titled one then I'll be very happy, even though CDN$55 shipped is way too much for a single disc.

Universal JP plays the marketing game hard and heavy...several of the high-demand discs are now showing out of print...the $55 might seem like a good price once the available copies dry up.

I would expect to see a jump in prices soon on e-bay/amazon.

Lover Over Gold is my favorite Dire Straits album without question. I will definitely buy this one once I hear some reviews of it. As you mention if it sounds as good as the S/T SHM-SACD then I'll be very happy as well.

Bill-do you have the Knopfler/Shangri-La disc? Reviews are pretty good on it but AFAIK I've only heard one of the songs (Boom, Like That). I was wondering how his solo stuff compares to Dire Straits.

Yes I have the Shangri-La SACD and it sounds excellent. Both Shangri-La and Sailing To Philadelphia are available on a CD/DVD-A combo. I bought the Sailing To Philadelphia CD/DVD-A last year for under $12.00 BIN shipped. In the link below they are going for $50.00 plus. I should have bought a 1/2 dozen of them. I have just about every MK album and they are all excellent IMO. Some are quite different from Dire Straits with some having different musical influences to them.

Thanks-I'll probably jump on Shangri-La first and see what I think. Looks like I can get either the CD/DVD-A or the SACD for under $20. Decisions...

I just bought two Shangri-La CD/DVD-As on Amazon. My luck the prices will drop to $7.99. But thats fine as I will enjoy one and set one aside.

I just checked and there are 11 left if you order from Amazon. So I would order one or as many as you want before they are hard to come by.

I have never herd this artist before. What does his music compare to?

Question on the pink floyd pre orders....

I want to pick up meddle, animals, and the wall but don't see any mention it is SACD. The homepage mentions all kinds of formats, is it safe to assume I can get the discovery versions and it will be SACD? I just want the albums, not into the extras really except maybe for the wall. Might have to get the big edition of that and cough up the 130 lol.

Shangri-La is the name of an album by Mark Knopfler. MK was a founding member and guitarist for Dire Straits. So if you like Dire Straits then chances are you will like MK's solo work. I think his solo work is outstanding as is the SQ of the recordings with some being HDCDs.

I don't own any dire straits sacd's. Brothers in arms has been on my amazon wish list forever but I have never pulled the trigger.

Maybe I need to walk up stairs, get off my iPhone and see if amazon has audio clips of these songs

I'm not sure if you have any good music stores in your area but try to find some used CDs of Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler's music. That way you will know before hand if you even like the music before spending big money on the SACD/DVD-As.

A few years ago, when I wasn't into high Rez music, we had about 4 used cd stores. Now they are gone. All i am left with is FYE and I guess that's a national music store. I have cleaned them out and spent many tedious hours going through there used bins. I check weekly but have not found anything good lately.

Although I have never looked for mark knopfler. So that just might give me something to do tomorrow.

Brothers In Arms is an outstanding album whether its a SACD, DVD-A or CD. I used this CD for many years when I would demo new gear.

I have the Brothers In Arms - 20th Anniversary Edition [Dual Disc] which is a CD on one side and a DVD-A on the other. I just looked to see if it is still in production and it is not. The prices are a little steep especially for the new one on Amazon (linked below). My copy is unfortunately marked up on the DVD-A side but it plays fine. I think I will give it a spin when I get home later tonight.
