Oh well I knew I couldn't make it a month. I just bought:

Bryan Ferry: Boys and Girls SACD

Di Meola/McLaughlin/DeLucia: Friday Night in San Francisco SACD

Haha well at least its a habit for good quality.

I have gone a week to give myself a break from scouring pricing. Might have to be back on the wagon for some Herbie Hancock finally.

Anyone have the NIN SACD? Wondering how the mix is.

I have NIN the downward spiral. The MCH mix is outstanding. The first time I listened to this disc all I could think is, this is how 5.1 MCH music is supposed to sound. The mix is outstanding! Whoever mixed that album is a genius... IMO

Im a big fan of this type of music and I do prefer aggressive 5.1 mixes. If you liked the downward spiral in 2ch stereo you will absolutely love the 5.1 mix!

"With Teeth" DVD-A 5.1 has a good mix as does downward spiral SACD !

Awesome. I will need to actually order it, been sitting in my cart forever. I do like aggressive mixes that really make use of all 5.1, good for those times you just need to crank it!

Yep, The Downward Spiral is excellent. Sounds like you guys would also like Talking Heads/Speaking In Tongues DualDisc, which can be had for cheap. I break this disc out when testing out new speakers and subs and it sends my poor dog running for cover

If someone is planning on buying the Talking Heads 5.1 stuff, I would suggest picking up the 2 disc sets on Amazonuk (rather than the dualdiscs). One disc for car (CD) and one for home (DVD-A). Much better and a great price too!

Is dualdisc SACD? I can't play dvd-a.

Thanks. I just ordered the cd dvda combo pack. I have wanted to buy a talking heads album for some time now. Nothing like a solid suggestion to push you over the edge.

Received Chet Baker, In NY sounds superb, and also Romero Un Segundo Una Vida it's Spanish Flamingo style guitar playing, pretty cool just with some modern ballads elements.

I picked up "Brick" the TH boxset the day it came out and is one of my favs. The format is DualDisc. I rebought the discs individually as DVD-A + CD for around 6 bucks each because the format is better IMO.

Also, If you have a Bluray player "Stop Making Sense" is a must buy!

No.
Dual Disc is DVD-V or DVD-A on one side of disc and CD on the other. I have found that quality control on these discs are not as good as regular DVD's or CD's...maybe my bad luck.

Do you mean the quality of the Brick DualDiscs or Duals in general? I think I only have a few other Duals besides the Brick.

One of my discs in the "Brick" had small scratches when new and skips at the last 10 seconds of the disc. I don't think I have had any other problems. I have since backed up my others to seperate CD/DVDA discs. Mudvayne, Foo Fighters and Grateful Dead are a few other DualDiscs I have...

Concerning the TH Brick, you notice better quality from the DVD-As compared to the DualDiscs? I have the Dead and Foos Duals as well.

I only have one DualDisc that being Dire Straits BIA. I noticed that the DVD-A side has what looks like scratches on it and sometimes hangs up when playing. I also noticed in the center of the disc near the spindle opening that the metal of the disc is flaking under the clear coating. I take very good care of all my discs and can not understand how this disc got scratched.

I wonder if there is any safe way to buff the scratches out? Its too bad the disc as the value of these discs are quite high. Check out the cost of the two new BIA DVD-As in the link below.

Steve,

That looks like it will work quite well and I happen to have a brush that looks just like that one. The one I have has several months buildup of "scratch remover" on it from my grille so it should work just great. I'll tackle that chore after I'm done cleaning my plasma with Comet "non-abrasive" cleaner.

Read the warning on some of the DualDisc cases or discs:

"This disc is intended to play on standard DVD and CD players.
May not play on certain car, slot load players and mega-disc changers."
"The audio side of this disc does not conform to CD specifications and therefore not all DVD and CD players will play the audio side of this disc."

This "might" be the reason some of you may have problems with the disc. Wikipedia has a very good explanation on this issue.

I bought one, Chris Botti's "To Love Again" and I had problems playing it so I just thought these warnings were the reason behind it.

I'm playing the DVD-A side on a Oppo 83SE so that is not an issue. I haven't tried the CD layer but will give that a try as well. Thanks for posting that information.

I just got done "polishing" both sides of the disc with my grille brush, I mean disc polisher. I'm sure there will be no playback issues now.

Just noticed I have this disc too...just tested in my 83se. Plays perfect. My disc looks brand new. Very mellow music but 2 or 3 songs. I may sell this one...

I stop buying Dual Disc because of playability issues with my Denon uni player 3910. My non technological answer to the problem was I thought they were too thick.

That may be part of it, but reflectivity issues may also be part of it. CDs are made with a single poly disc, the reflective layer is on the back of the disc. DVDs are made with a sandwich of 2 poly discs, and all the good stuff is in the middle.

So there's really no spec for a dual-disc sandwich. I've never had one, but they could be made with a 2-disc sandwich or a 3-disc.
