If your not familiar with track 10 "King of Birds" be ready for a great song that is even better in surround!

I never liked the music mix of the SACD. I do like the crisp and dynamic SQ and the surround "effects". The new bluray gives me all of this...

You mean 4.0 mix gives you all of this? Because pretty much everyone agrees that difference between 5.1 SACD and BD mix is minimal if any at all.

Unless you have golden ears of course

I recently bought an acura that supports dts cd's and dvd audio. I'd like to find some jazz (or even big band) that will really make use of the system. I'm not sure what's out there but I particularly like Vince Guaraldi. It's important to me that the mix is done well. I tried to rip the audio off a U2 live dvd I had and the mix was terrible.
Not traditional jazz, but any of the Donald Fagen / Steely Dan DVD-A's will make your ELS system shine! I'm an Acura owner myself ...

yakapo,

Another Acura owner here. Not sure how widely available and what the cost might be, but the Big Phat Band's "Swinging For the Fences" (DVD-A) would definitely meet your criteria.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm going to see if they have some of those at my local fry's. (if not I found some for reasonable prices online)

Anything else out there that's similar to the Guaraldi style (not sure what to call it). I love jazz trio - piano, upright bass, drums.

I wonder if I can find some good concert dvd's / blu rays and rip the audio off of them to make dts cd's or dvd a's. Harry connick / chris botti for example.

Thanks again!

Latest acquisitions...Carole King - Tapestry (5.1) and Willie Nelson - Stardust (2.0)

Hi Martin,

Was it hard to find the Tapestry title? Would you mind saying what the cost was? I have been eyeing this one for some time as that album really takes me back, but I just can't bring myself to pay hundreds of dollars.

Jeff,

Here is a link to sa-cd.net with some reviews of Tapestry. The reviews are mixed but it might be worth it to have on SACD. I have seen it for sale for around $50.00 which would be a fair price.

Is this frank Sinatra sacd real or a fake. I don't see any mention of it on sa-cd.net

The seller has a good ebay rating but the disc definitely looks like a bootleg of some kind.

Thanks, Bill. BTW, my 5508 is back. I hope to have the time to get it back into my system tomorrow evening .. and to listen to some music that some thoughtful people have sent me.

Hey Jeff,

I'm glad you got your 5508 back. I'm curious as to if you have to run Audyssey Pro again or if all your settings are saved on your laptop? I hope it is that way so you do not have to do all that work over again. Enjoy the music!

I could reload the calibration if I need to, but I am thinking that repairing the connection between the chassis and front panel didn't involve them mucking with the firmware.

I was looking at SACDs over at ebay and came across this listing for the Police's Outlandos D'Amour SACD. What makes me think this SACD is bogus is the sticker on the front. It says the SACD is in 5.1 surround which Outlandos D'Amour certainly is not. The only Police SACD in surround is the Every Breath You Take: The Classics. So I would suggest those looking at SACDs specifically from China to be very careful.

Just got the notification that my pre-order for Stevie Ray Vaughan/In Step is apparently ready to ship from Music Direct. Since I ordered it last October I'll believe it when it's in my hands.

Thats good to hear. I assume you would know right away if there was an issue. I have never used Audyssey Pro so I have no idea as to the time involved doing a full calibration. But I'm sure its well worth the effort and sounds amazing!

Hey Steve,

Thats really good to hear. I have been holding off on some of the SRV SACDs. But In Step and The Sky Is Crying might be ones I order in the near future. I will look forward to your thoughts on In Step when it arrives.

The shrink wrap looks a bit dodgy and not look like the manufacturer's "sealing."

I have Alice in chains - greatest hits sacd on the way. Sa-cd.net rates this as a very poor sacd. Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this disc. I hope it's better then it reviews.

I also have Gloria Estefan's greats hits MCH sacd on the way.

Thats true, although some of the new SACDs I have bought recently look like that. I received Dave Brubeck's Time Out SACD today and the shrink wrap was a bit dodgy as well. Once unwrapped there is a plastic sleeve and the case had the tape seal on the top. I looked over the booklet and the case and it appears to be a genuine SACD. I have the house to myself for about five hours tomorrow so Time Out will be the first SACD in the Oppo. If it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks I'll know I was screwed.

It's only stereo but it's a MoFi so I'm hoping they did a good job remastering it.

Hopefully you didn't pay too much for the Alice In Chains Greatest Hits disc. In 2-channel it's tolerable but from what I remember the MCH mix is painful. I don't think I got through the entire disc and it's a shame because I'm a fan of the band.

I'm an e-Bay troll...not too hard to find for auction. Set a $49 limit and won for $40.92 + $3 for shipping. I wanted this classic in 5.1.
