Sounds to me like this is a stereo SACD, no? Do you guys have an Oppo you can pop it in and see what comes up on the screen?

I don't see anything that says remastered and I havent opened the cd yet. But I see nothing that says sacd on the jewel case.

Looks like some bidding wars are about to begin on the digi pak sacd on eBay

Don't quote me on this but I believe a disc can be remastered in DSD and not be an SACD. I looked at two Dave Brubeck discs at Newbury Comics that said DSD on them so I thought they were SACDs. I looked at both at little closer and there was no SACD logo on the artwork. So I put them back. The Sam Cooke At The Copa SACD is in a digipak only and has a Hybrid SACD and Multichannel sticker on the front cover. What Brock and the rest us ordered is the CD.

Here is a listing on ebay that has the real deal. Happy bidding!

OK, the remastering was done in DSD, but the CD is Redbook. Still, they harped on it being remastered in 5.1 ... when it isn't. They'll be getting mine back.

I assumed DSD was synonymous with SACD, but looks like you're correct. The part below is from a Wikipedia.

DSD-CD is a variant of the Compact Disc Digital Audio format. The difference from the standard version of CD is that the sound is derived from a DSD master. A DSD-CD however does not achieve the same sound resolution as SACD because the high-resolution DSD sound has to be down-converted to 44.1 kHz, 16-bit PCM in order to be compliant with the 'Red Book' audio CD standard. DSD-CDs are fully compatible with CD.

DSD-CD has been marketed as an audiophile medium, primarily in Hong Kong with music by Cantopop artists such as Sally Yeh.[6]

That is bogus marketing. Red Book Audio is Red Book Audio, i.e. a CD is a CD. Must have been thought up by the people who brought us SHM.

Here is a listing from ebay reseller moviemars that shows a picture of the Sam Cooke At The Copa disc with the SACD sticker on it. Don't bother as I just called them and it is only the CD. Oh well the hunt is on.

The trails of dead carcass were right under our noses, and not even a scent to give it away.

What ever I'm over it I did change my mind about sending it back though, some folks seem to love the recording, according to the reviews ( the con continues ?) I'm sure this would have been a huge hit on sacd.

Even though the listing says Hybrid SACD I would bet this one is the CD as well. The more reading I have done shows the Sam Cooke At The Copa SACD is OOP. If that listing is in fact the SACD I'll order one in a heartbeat. But I think I'll stand back and let someone else place the order first.

All the "Copa" confusion stems from the same UPC.

Bottom line, like the stones DSD/SACD remasters by the same company (ABKCO I think), hard to tell what version you're getting...the retail seller's don't know enough. In the end, plastic jewel case = DSD mastered redbook CD...digipak = SACD.

This cluster is exactly why I went the used e-Bay route...$18.

The Sam Cooke At The Copa package arrived today and no surprise to me it is the CD. It will be going right back to importcds. I was able to find a used copy of the SACD (yes in a digipak) tonight so I'll be good to go.

I have received the Yo-Yo Ma plays Morricone SACD. It is a MCH/stereo recording but also a hybrid.
It sounds sweet, Morricone did the orchestration and plays piano and conducts the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra as well. Excellent selection of his work, and great playing by Yo-Yo-Ma as well. The surround mix is a bit of mixed bag though. It doesn't sound much different then a stereo recording through DPLII music. Vast soundstage but lacks focus, instruments aren't pinned down but rather they piled up on each other.
Still this is a very enjoyable album, and I recommend for fans of both artists.

I did not buy it from soundcitybeaches. The SACD is OOP so I kind of doubt it is the SACD. If you recall the importcds listing mentioned the SACD and 5.1 surround. But the listing does mention SACD and 5.1 surround much more than the importcds listing. I would send them an email or call them right away to be 100% sure it is the SACD. If you can actually speak with someone ask them if this title is a digipak or a regular jewel case.

Hopefully it is the SACD but in the product description on scb listing on ebay it shows:

UPC: 018771997023
Artist: Sam Cooke
Format: CD
Release Year: 2003
Record Label: ABKCO Records
Genre: R&B, Soul

I think these vendors are all sharing the same misinformation. As I read different websites, I see what I would suspect to be cutting and pasting from the same source.

I just went to Amazon to return my Cooke/Copa CD. When I went to the items page to cut and paste the bogus description, I saw that what had been "remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound" now said "remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound Stereo." WTF?

That's OK, I have an email from them with the original wording, which I might need if they refuse to make this right.

Jeff,

I ordered directly from importcds and they said they would take the CD back no problem. If you think about what difference does it make if it says "5.1 Surround Sound" or "5.1 Surround Sound Stereo? Either way it is misleading so Amazon should take the CD back with a full refund.

Dan,

Maybe I got free shipping as I signed up on the Rhino site before placing the order over the phone.
