Hopefully this will be by the end of the month after I complete my current assignment.
Would like to post my other extensive Hi Res collections as well (DVD-A's, DTS, HDAD, Dualdiscs and Blu-ray Music.) but so far nobody has come forward with any info on a site(s) to post them on.
Could have sworn somebody here use to have a link in their signiture for their DVD-A library, but I can't find it anywhere. ( Maybe I was dreaming)
Might just have to find some software and do it manually if all else fails.
Have been collecting these for years and would really like to catalog and post them as well as my SACD's.
Way back during the format war I started collecting DVD-A's instead of SACD's, as I thought (at the time)they were so much nicer because they had menu's, photographs, lyrics, ect.)
If I had only known what I know now. (Kicks self in A**)
This allowed me to put together a rather nice DVD-A collection, but now I have to pay dearly for OOP SACD's.

I also avoided sacd's back in the day; I thought dvd-a's would win because you didnt need a dedicated player- any dvd player could at least play the lossy 5.1 and I was more interested in surround than hi-res. So I missed on most all the early sacd releases. I did eventually get Dark side of the Moon, then Tommy and PG's Up, and have added a few recently, but still have mostly dvd-a's- though there are some I passed on early and now wish I had gotten them when they were reasonable.

Todays Catch:

David Bowie - Heathen SACD - MCH

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Couldnt Stand The Weather SACD - 2CH

Herbie Handcock - Head Hunters SACD - MCH
Have an extra copy if anybody's interested.

Chick Corea - Rendezvous in New York SACD - MCH

Various Artists - The Concert for New York SACD - MCH

Yes - Magnification DVD-A

Queensryche - Mindcrime at the Moore - Blu-ray

The Police - Certifiable - Blu-ray

I'd love Headhunters, but not at current prices. One of the ones I'm kicking myself for not getting back in the day. I'd like to hear your thoughts about Magnification. I think this is an under-rated gem that shines in surround.

Martin,

You can get the MCH version of Way Out West from this seller on ebay. I almost went with the MCH version but found a used version of the APO SACD so I grabbed that one. I would also be interested in Dan's thoughts on the MCH version. From what I have read it sounds very good.

JimWinVA,

I don't know what your price limit is for Headhunters but I have found like new copies on eBay for $30 -$40
Will let you know my thoughts on Magnification as I have heard really good things about it.

Picked up Jorma Kaukonen: Blue Country Heart MCH SACD today. A few used copies on Amazon left for mid $40s...after that, through the roof.

Lesser know disc, but some great reviews...acoustic country/bluegrass. He founded Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna.

Those are better prices than I've seen, but still would like to get it down some. But thanks for the heads-up, will check more closely on ebay.

Glad to hear you've heard good things about Magnification- the album was largely ignored when it was released by all but hardcore yesfans. I think it's awesome and the 5.1 mix really adds to the experience. My faves are Dreamtime, Can you Imagine (Squire on lead vocals!) and Spirit of Survival.

Looking forward to your impressions.

THANK YOU Martin for reminding me of this one! I've had it for quite a while, it's a great one! Somehow it got mixed in with the regular CDs, and I've not listened to it for a long time. It's playing even as I'm typing this . Excellent SQ, surrounds are used for ambiance, nothing from the center.

IIRC George Massenburg engineered Blue Country Heart. Phenomenal engineer IMO. Pretty much everything he does sounds remarkable. Albeit not true high rez, per a couple of posts to this thread back in January 2010, check out the DTS CD of Lyle Lovett's Joshua Judges Ruth if you haven't.

You're welcome. Post word re what you think. I love crankin' "Church." Russ Kunkel's drum kit sounds phenomenal. Just curious: Did you get it via Amazon Marketplace?

Speaking of Massenburg, if you like Earth Wind & Fire (which IMO you should), there are SACDs of Gratitude (he recorded that famous live performance of "Reasons" . . . "He plays so beautiful don't you agree?!?") and the classic That's the Way Of the World. Glad I got copies of both back in the day--they're both near or above USD$100 on Amazon Marketplace these days. Massenburg also did all three of Linda Ronstadt's recordings with Nelson Riddle (and several of her other albums), only one of which is on high rez. Pricey but worth it if you have the cheddar to spare.

You're welcome. Again, post word at some point re what you think.

Re HFO: IMO Don Henley is in *fine* vocal form in that concert. "Wasted Time," "Learn To Be Still" and "New York Minute." Wow. Too bad the Warner/Elektra/Asylum rights provenance means we'll likely not get a BD of that (even though I think it was shot 720 not 1080).

I found this baby on EBay. I scored it for $80 in used very good condition. Nice and loud separation in the MCH mode. I would hope they would do that for the rest of those early classics because it needs it! I have to be careful what I ask for because The Doors MCH discs are not too impressive to these ears. I have the perception box set up on Amazon right now and god only knows if the new SACD releases will be better.

This is by far "The" Aerosmith SACD to own!

I paid $83 for my "Toys in the Attic" SACD in new like condition (eBay) about 2 months ago and was glad I got it.

My Doors (Expanded) [40th Anniversary Mixes] certainly isn't the best sounding SACD I have heard but also isn't what I would consider unimpressive.
My assessment would be : average sounding.
I am also hoping that the new "Doors" SACD's will be better sounding as there is definitely room for improvement.
These new "Doors" SACD's have been on pre-order for so long I'm wondering "if" or "when" they will ever be released. (Maybe they need a new set of tubes)

Bill

Way Out West was recorded in 1957. Doesn't that mean that is was only a two track recording? How can they make it multichannel?

I have that recording in XRCD24 and it is a gold standard digital recording in that format.

The Pillbugs - The Pillbugs Best
http://thepillbugs.bandcamp.com
Download the album (47 tracks) in 24/96 FLAC for $25.

From the Bandcamp page: "These songs were uploaded in 24/96 straight off the original first generation 2trk stereo master tapes. No noise reduction. No compression. Only slight, very minimalist EQ applied on a couple of the tracks. This is the best sounding and most definitive collection of The Pillbugs ever released."

They are not kidding. The sound quality will bring tears to your eyes and make you wonder in frustration why every band doesn't release their music in the same way.

(Of course, Pillbugs may not be the kind of music you want, so naturally you can listen to all the tracks in their entirety on Bandcamp before deciding to buy. (Yes, I am a big fan of Bandcamp.))
