Dan,

Looks like a good list of discs to grab. I gave the Eric Dolphy a quick listen and I wasn't overly impressed but I need to give it a second chance smile.gif. I bought the Tommy Turrentine SACD but I have yet to get it.

Jeff,

I just bought the Bob James SACD so I should have it by the end of the week hopefully. I'll post my thoughts on it as it is a well reviewed SACD for the overall SQ. It can be a bit pricey as it is OOP but I found a copy for a very good price.

Guys, I just gotta mention a disc I recently received, Temptation by Holly Cole. Fabulous SQ CD that has just made the SoM "Soundz like HiRes" list. The minimalist arrangements and expressive vocals are very cool n' tasty (very much in the same vein as Shelby Lynne's Just a Little Lovin') and it's under $6 new!

quattroatl, thanks much for the Foo Fighters Ebay link!
Just ordered.
Edit: just noticed this ships from New Zealand!

Hey Dan,

I will definitely post my thoughts on this one when it arrives. I have heard good things about LAGQ and the quality of their MCH SACDs. The prices are certainly reasonable enough smile.gif.

I just bought:

Oscar Peterson - Action SACD

Oscar Peterson - Mellow Mood SACD

You're welcome! I hope you enjoy this disc as much as I do.

On a side note, if you don't already own "Skin and Bones" dvd concert then you're missing out. It's less than $20, and although it's not hirez it is one of my favorite reference surround concerts. It has been meticulously mixed by Elliot Scheiner and sounds awesome. I don't know if it'll get a bluray release any time soon, so grab it and enjoy!

I got the LAGQ used for $11.00 shipped so I couldn't resist wink.gif. The two Oscar Peterson SACDs were also good deals off of ebay. The prices of the "Exclusively for My Friends" series which the two SACDs come from can be quite high. I didn't realize there was a Hi Rez purchasing season. I thought it was a year round free for all biggrin.gif. Maybe if it was a short season like the NFL I could save some money. But where is the fun in that wink.gif.

I just bought:

Pat Metheny - Imaginary Day DVD-A

Thanks to a fellow member giving me a heads up I was able to grab this highly regarded DVD-A for a great price on ebay smile.gif.

Dexter Gordon "Go!", SACD/Stereo
Sonny Stitt/Paul Gonsalves "Salt and Pepper" SACD/Stereo.
Not that expensive but not cheap either, 19.99 and 20.99 respectively. It's becoming hard to find good deals like before, I guess Bill and Steve have gotten all the cheap titles frown.gif.

By the way Bill both the PMG DVD-A and the LAGQ "Latin" are great. The last LAGQ I bought "Brazil" IMO wasn't as good (but not bad either) as the other titles as far as the music goes, SQ was good.

And one last thing, I still got the Getz "Pure Getz" SACD, if anybody wants to trade, PM me.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to play your SOUVENIR BD on a correctly configured system equipped with an Auro-3D 9.1 decoder "some time in the next year or so". Perhaps you might report back to us with your thoughts after comparing the 5.1|7.1 Standard versus Auro-3D 9.1 versions of the first five tracks, as it appears they were all mixed from the same (two layer, 11 microphone) recording...?!

I don't know the specifics of this Auro 3D stuff, and have no interest in adding a new processor just to check it out. That track is actually a DTS-MA 5.1 track with what sounds like extra stuff matrixed into the LF-RF-LR-RR channels. I'll assume that the Auro 3D decoder can also perform a similar function with any 5.1 track.

caupina,

Those are a couple good buys even at $20.00. I have been looking to get the Dexter Gordon SACD. If you get a chance please post your thoughts on it. I don't think Steve and I can rival your SACD buying skills wink.gif. I had a chance to give the LAGQ Latin Album SACD a listen this morning and it sounds excellent. I look forward to getting the Metheney DVD-A as it has been very well reviewed.

For those looking for an outstanding jazz SACD check out Cannonball Adderley's Know What I Mean? APO SACD. This album has excellent playing from both Adderley and Bill Evans. Amazon has it now for $20.61 which is a great price for this SACD. I'm listening to it right now and it is one of my favorite jazz SACDs.

Hey Bill-I heard Bill Evans and Carlos Santana jammed with The Allman Brothers in BOSTON a few weeks back eek.gif. I heard a song in the car on XM and looks like there are clips on YouTube.

Hey Steve,

I was a little shocked to hear Bill Evans was jamming with ABB and Santana eek.gif. The Bill Evans I was referring to in an earlier post is the pianist who passed a number of years ago. But sure enough there is another Bill Evans who plays the sax. I could have gone to that show but I passed as I have seen ABB a number of times in recent years. Although seeing Santana as well would have been cool smile.gif.

Aaahh, whenever you have mentioned Bill Evans I was thinking the sax player. Yes, I guess it would definitely be a bit strange if Bill Evans the pianist was playing recently with the Allmans, and I doubt Greg would allow it anyway biggrin.gif.

Looks like there's even a 3rd famous Bill Evans (I think Dan's a big fan biggrin.gif)

Well if anything I now know there is a sax player named Bill Evans. No comment on the other Bill Evans even if Dan is a big fan (must be a NYC thing) wink.gif.
