I feel guilty (a little) so just rechecked Amazon. Still showing one available for under $30 if you want to grab it.

Dan-$30 is a good price-you should jump on that. Dust off that wallet and clean off the cobwebs and step up biggrin.gif.

Speak of the devil biggrin.gif

The thing is Steve you know you can't just buy one disc wink.gif, I have a ton of crap in my Amazon cart and I always justify the arm full of purchased item with gee I'm saving on shipping.. biggrin.gif
Next thing you know my gal is giving me the one eye look, "oh I thought you said we did go eat to blah, blah because you said yo didn't have any money" rolleyes.gif And you know I want that Radio Head Blu Ray Fo Sho tongue.gif

I'm considering selling my vinyl collection once and for all, thus uncluttering space, and loosing up soft cash , but I tend to like the sound of vinyl as well. What a conundrum.

Boy am I easly sway

I do appreciate that in most cases where they go back to the original masters the updated releases are indeed superior and a joy to listen to. However, I've also decided that the difference for STEREO re-issues is really not so incrementally appreciable as to warrant spending so much on albums that I already own in a CD version. However, I am becoming a big fan of well-done 5.1 surround remixes. These are the ones I have found to be a fantastic upgrade from the originals:
Patricia Barber - Modern Cool. PureAudio Blu-ray. Audio only with 5.1 surround and stereo options. Truly the go-to disc in my collection now.
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (SACD 9871498) 20th Anniversary. 5.1 remix and stereo options.
Norah Jones - Come Away with Me (SACD) CAPP-042 Analogue Productions. 5.1 surround. This is the brand new release of her catalog by AP. I like this one because of the surround mix, but honestly the other two albums I bought from the same set are stereo only and while nice mixes, not really worth $30 each. Originals are fine.
And a couple of stereo releases I do think are worth the money:
Getz-Gilberto - (SACD) Stereo only. Analogue Productions CVRJ 8545 SA. This disc I own in at least three issues, and one stereo mix that truly is worth the money. The space and breathy vocals are wonderful.
And one more stereo release that I did buy, and which was very expensive: Dire Straits Love Over Gold. It's the SACD-SHM release. My go to late night disc. Priceless

I looked for this on Amazon, but can't find it. I know it is available on Acoustic Sounds, but I get free shipping on Amazon!

Also, regarding these new Blu-ray music discs, I say bring them on! I like how one can actually afford them, compared to the current used prices for all the good DVD-Audio titles out there.

I have Amazon Prime as well, so I always look there first!

In my early SACD buying days (2003-2007 or so), I would buy just about anything that came out on SACD that seemed remotely interesting to me, 2 channel or MCH, and 'upgraded' several 2 channel CDs. However, I found that while MCH was always (to me) worth the effort and expense, many 2 channel SACDs were little different in SQ to the CDs (caveat being "those titles I already have"). These days, I'll still buy a 2 channel SACD if the price is reasonably close to the CD, but only for stuff I don't already have. 'Upgrades' must include a MCH mix for me to consider it, unless there is persuasive enough info that a re-release has a significant increase in SQ or a compelling remix.

MCH is what drew me to SACD and DVD-A, and that remains the case today more than ever (with BD now joining the fray).

I started to post this in 2 channel, but thought you guys here would be more interested. Its an article on music in Afganistan. Look for the group Tears of the Sun. Lead singer is a looker!

Very interesting article. I hope they are succesful.

1) Neil Young's Americana on BluRay 24/192, 2 channel PCM

Might as well own everything he puts out.smile.gif

2) The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concerts on BluRay.

I saw this for the first time tonight on Palladia in DD 5.1 and it was very good. Ordered the BR for the DTS HD MA - should be excellent.

3) Musicares Tribute to Neil Young on BluRay.

Bought it primarily for the DTS HD MA track of Norah Jones singing Tell Me Why -- $17 well spent.wink.gif

Just bought:

John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman Verve SACD

This SACD always looked interesting but it was listed as mono. Then I read a bit more and tracks 1-6 are mono and tracks 7-12 done in stereo.

While I'm on a roll wink.gif.

Keb’ Mo’ - The Door SACD

I have the Keb' Mo' Just Like You SACD which sounds excellent. So I thought I would add this title which has excellent reviews as well on sa-cd.net

Hey Dan,

I was wondering about the vocals as well. But the SACD was only $12.49 shipped so I figured why not. The reviews on sa-cd.net were very good as well.

Dan, the Dalis are treating me very well indeed, thnx. The Salk Soundscapes inspired me to upgrade to 3 way speakers with woofers and I'm not disappointed! A not-so great cell phone pic is posted on a thread here:

I can't seem to post a pic or do embedded links or emoticons today.

"Just Like You" is an old favorite of mine and I could imagine that it would translate well to SACD. May have to pick that one up. Also going to look at some of my old blues CD's to see what's availabe. (Coltrane, Miles, Getz, Oscar Peterson, etc...)

"Norah Jones - Come Away with Me (SACD) CAPP-042 Analogue Productions. 5.1 surround. This is the brand new release of her catalog by AP."

This title had already been released and is still available for about $15 ... I wonder why AP is releasing their version?? Remixed ... again? [scratches head]

Thanks for the heads up about this--I didn't know it was out on BR. Bluray.com says "for a music release, this is most definitely a reference quality disc."

^^
The Bonnie Raitt, CSN and Simon & Garfunkel bits should be really good in DTS HD MA. It's also a lot of music for the price.

The original Come Away with Me SACD is not known for very good overall SQ. From what I have read the APO SACD is much better inregard to SQ over the original. All of the APO Norah Jones SACDs and LPs have been remastered by Kevin Gray.

From the APO Come Away with Me SACD product description.

Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original source recordings!

Hate to be a me too but that's how I feel.

MCH recordings already have a small enough audience as it stands. But 2 channel SACD are going for an even smaller target audience - those who consider red book audio not of sufficient quality for their tastes or perhaps an opportunity to obtain a copy of a title that was remixed for the new release, with presumably improved AQ.

As an aside when they produce a 2 channel SACD are they going back to the multitrack masters (if so why only do two channels since one would presume the artist has to be involved in making sure the original mixing decisions are being followed) or are they just taking the final 2 channel master, cleaning that up digitally and re-issuing?

For them to go "back" to the multitrack masters would require a remix going forward. They just don't do that for stereo.

As a previous post stated, this is available from Burningshed for about half Amazon's price:

https://www.burningshed.com/store/porcupinetree/

I bought Fear Of Blank Planet DVD-A at both Amazon then Burningshed along with The Incident DVD-A. Nothing like collecting rare 5.1s...

I'd highly recommend Anesthetize bluray if you like PT. The DTS-HDMA 5.1 is very nice!

Not a bad idea at all to start a Steve Wilson thread. That way the first post could be setup to show all of SW's Hi-Rez releases, upcoming releases and listener reviews.

I have quite a few SACDs by all those artists and they are well worth it IMO. The JSACD of Kind of Blue is outstanding in 5.1 smile.gif.
