AP would be my guess for having created a quad mix back ... in the day. And back in the day is exactly when the Quad 8 format was used.

Speaking of Quad 8, I have a Steely Dan "Countdown To Ecstasy" that is pretty good! Guess Who "Share The Land" too. And a Procol Harum BBC Live performance that was SQ Quad.

We'll blame Bezos.

Small nit to pick though - it does sound good. And at the price paid, an excellent bargain.[/quot
Thats a good disc. Mr Wilson did the transfer without any tweaking. He did no eq work just straigh transfer from the master tapes.
I have Tarkus, and BSS. BSS sounds so much better with more OOMPH. Also He is working on anew project, and all we know is it's a band from the 70's. Speculation is rampant on what album he is doing. But it remains a secret.

Looks like you mis-posted here. I will fix your post since the entire post appears to have come from me.wink.gif Highly suggest the PREVIEW button before posting.smile.gif

I thought the context was the 5.1 mixes on Blu-ray compared to the same mixes on SACD? Of course I wouldn't compare the sound quality of Parsons' quad mix to the 5.1 Guthrie.
Beyond that, are there quad mixes on Blu-ray???
Jeff

No Problem. I was responding to this post by grubadub :

"i have the quad dvd-a and the sacd. i can't remember the last time i listened to the sacd. it's pretty good, but the dvd-a is better. i haven't heard the quad bluray but i believe i read somewhere that it sounds the same as the dvd-a."

Specifically the part in BOLD. The Bluray and the bootleg DVDA do not sound the same and that grubadub heard wrong. The DVDA does sound very good for a boot but the bluray has less noise.

Posted on SH that Steven Wilson is doing a 5.1 of XTC's Nonsuch.smile.gif
Although my smile will cramp up long before this is released.

XTC fans!
Is it cool in here or is it just me.wink.gif
As always, the hope that this could be the start of something truly incredible.
Can you imagine, Drums & Wires, Black Sea, English Settlement, etc. in hi-rez?
Hey, we have King Crimson and ELP from Sony on DVD-A.....

The closest thing I've got is the MFSL Skylarking. The Apple Venus stuff would be well suited to Multi-Channel.

Indeed, but it should have its own thread. Only have XTC's Black Sea on CD, but it's a good one. Wonder why SW decided to start off with Nonsuch?

Agreed but I'm guessing this is a long ways off.
This is the last post I'll make on the subject here.

Picked up a couple of SACD's after a long layoff, WYWH and Elvis 24k Hits. More importantly, I breathed new life into my hi-res collection by finally picking up an Oppo DV-980H for HDMI connection to my AVR. Listening to WYWH, Sam Cooke At the Copa and Sea Change SACD's in surround this morning reminded me why I "bought into" (literally and figuratively) hi-res in the first place. Beautiful stuff.

Sea Change was quite an eye-opener for how good multi-channel could be. That, and a couple of Steven Wilson mixes and I'm all in for MCH now.
