I read someone quoting Geddy Lee to that effect. I'll see if I can find it again.

Just picked up the Rush 2112 in 2012 Deluxe Edition CD and DVD.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered the DVD-Audio of Grover Washington, Jr.-Winelight! It has a 24/192 stereo track on it. I used to play the LP all the time when I had a turntable set up, and have been wanting this for years. Great album.

Yes, it is, and one of the first DVD-A I ever bought.

"Meant to chime in - ran into Geddy last week at TIFF - we chatted 5.1, and he said they've locked their Engineer in with the tapes ("he's got no life"), and that they plan on doing the same treatment for all their records."

Just bought:

Count Basie and the Kansas City 7 APO SACD
Buddy Guy - DJ Play My Blues Multichannel SACD
Grover Washington Jr. - Winelight DVD-A

Thanks to mtrot for mentioning the Winelight DVD-A. I might not have grabbed it if I hadn't seen his positive thoughts smile.gif.

DLMN8R,

Re "Quote from sharkshark post #339 of the "Rush 5.1 re-releases being readied" thread": Thanks. I've posted my skeptical response in that thread. smile.gif

Some may take issue with WHERE in the 5.1 soundscape (mix engineer) Richard Chycki placed certain sounds but I think the overall FIDELITY/SQ of the disc is tremendous.

Hmm, it sounds like the master tape was run through a Concert Hall DSP and burned onto a DVD disc. I don't hear a true representation of what a 5.1 mix is supposed to sound like. Much like the Police greatest hits SACD. Lots of reverb was used. So imho, it was a surround mix done on the cheap. Okay, I'll give it another spin for the hell of it.

It's not that bad. All the 5.1 Rush mixes are hit and miss. Some tracks leave you wishing it was mixed better and others sound nice. Overall sound quality is average at best compared to top releases (like Aqualung 5.1). I liked almoast all of AFTK and most of MP. Signals starts off bad but a few tunes are alright (Digital Man). I plan on getting 2112 in the next few days and my guess it will be the same. Some songs will be mixed nicely and some will leave you and me wanting a better mix with the SQ not great...

Hey Steve,

Yes it is as I watch my Paypal account slowly getting drained eek.gif. I grabbed a few JSP Records blues MCH SACDs as they sound excellent. Of course when I go to Amazon and it says "Only 1 left" I have to buy them. I should go back and look but the listings probably say "Only 1 left" even though I bought the only one biggrin.gif.

if 2112 isn't better than moving pictures, i think i'll pass....unless i can get it for $15 or less. i paid the full price for moving pictures and i've listened to it maybe three times....hoping it will sound better smile.gif but it never does frown.gif

I'm curious as to what you find objectionable with Moving Pictures. I quite enjoy it (even had an evening devoted to revisiting our youth with a couple of buddies while playing the 5.1 mix in the basement--just like being back in high school when I wore out 3 vinyl copies in 4 years). I never expect everyone will like what I like, but I'm having difficulty imagining why it seems so bad to some people.

Does anyone have any issues getting the DTS HD MA layer of the lee ritenour bd of overdrive to play? I am on my 2nd disc and neither one wants to play. Only plays the lpcm 2ch layer. Other discs play fine so I know setup is ok. I am not getting a menu - it just goes right into playing 2ch.

No issues with it here. Has both stereo PCM and 5.1 DTS-MA, selectable either in the menu or with the audio button on the remote. Also goes to menu anytime using the menu button on the remote.

I have Overtime, have had no issues playing either track.. the DTS MA works great .. I have a Oppo 83 hooked up to my Yammie RX-z7 as Pre-Amp. Have you tried updating your BD player's firmware.. sometimes that works... hope this helps..

Ovation - I don't think it's objectionable. Just a little disappointed in the sound quality. Id givie it a 7/10 on SQ. Definitely didn't live up to my expectations.

Purchased the Hoff Jazz Ensemble, "Quiet Winter Nights". A very nice recording from 2L, on bluray audio.

It took me a while track this one down. This is a BD Audio only disc, 50 tracks in 24-bit/96KhZ. It's available at Amazon UK for a very decent price; even with shipping to the US.

Okay, I gave it another spin yesterday. Yup, you're right! It's not as bad as I recalled. Still sounds a little thin for my taste, I guess my expectations were really high when I first received the disc and was disappointed in the overall presentation of the surround mix.

I have the Moving Pictures BD and am quite disapointed. Sounds compressed. Drums lack the impact I was expecting. I bought The Petty Damn the torpedoes BD at the same time and it is by far superior in SQ. Just bought the 2 ELP releases and love them. Palmers Drums have the impact that the Moving Pictures BD is missing. With a Drummer Like Peart you would think they would have got it right.Same goes for the Genesis Boxes. Collins big drum sound is gone.

Happy Holidays guys...

I'm listening to Nick Drake a Treasury and what a pleasure it is, did realize how much of a FAN of this gentleman's beautiful music I am. I can hear Beck''s music swells , and Duncan Sheik lyrically wise, and style of singing influence by Mr. Drake, I also got Poor boy which seems to be more of a compilation of various artist but haven't listen to it yet, hopefully it's as interesting as Treasury smile.gif
