Anyone listened to the BluRay with the quintaphonic layer and the DTS HD MA layer? How does it compare to the DVD-A?
Two totally different titles the BD is the movie, the DVD-A is the original album. The movie is a totally different performance by different artists then the original album. I saw the movie back when it was released in the 70's and it was severely panned and IMHO rightfully so. That's not to say there aren't some good performances on it. Tina Turner as the Acid Queen comes to mind.

Oh yea the album came out on DVD-A and SACD.

I have the Tommy SACD and I've only listened to it a few times. I enjoyed it but would much prefer a 5.1 release of Quadrophenia which would be a huge hit IMO. But I guess some of the multi-track tapes of Quadrophenia are missing so a 5.1 release of the entire album might never happen frown.gif.

Bill
+1 Bill Quadrophenia in 5.1 would be awesome.

I believe there are some 5.1 mixes on DVD in the box set from last year... or I guess it is two years ago now.
There's also a stereo Japanese SACD.
I haven't heard either one but might spring for the box set at the right price.

ETA: The 5.1 mixes of the 8 tracks on the DVD are in fact DVD-A. Forgot I had obtained those tracks. Need to clean up my hard drive more often.
Come on Pete do the whole album in 5.1 on BD please.

Thanks.

The "quintaphonic layer" was what had me going on the bluray .............. I guess 5.1 would be sextaphonic and 7.1 would be octomom...... oops. I mean octophonic.smile.gif

Hey Guys (and Gals):

I'm a big fan of Diana Krall and interested in picking up a copy of "When I Look In Your Eyes". I'd love to get the collective opinion on what is the preferred release, and pros and cons, etc. What I've found so far are the following:

SACD
Japanese Import CD (Realize this is not hi-rez, but should I consider?)
DVD-A

I am a fine of MCH, so that may eliminate the import cd, but if some of you have both a MCH and the CD I'd be interested in your comparisons.
I have all DK SACD and I like them all, besides they're pretty cheap by SACD standards and they're hybrids (no need for the japanese CD edition). I can't comment on the DVDA as I don't have any, but considering its current price may be you could get both the SACD and DVDA and compare them side by side. Most of the DVDA titles I've got sound great.

Steve,

I would go with the SACD as I'm sure it has the same MCH mix as the DVD-A. importcds has both in stock but the SACD costs less. For some reason I thought I had the DVD-A but looking quickly I could not find it.

Agreed...think I'll go with the SACD. Thanks. I guess you didn't realize that you were suppose to talk me out of another purchase smile.gif

Steve,

My apologies I did not realize I was supposed to do that wink.gif. My goal is guide fellow SACD fans to the best deals that I can find (misery loves company tongue.gif). If in doubt contact your respective SACDBA sponsor biggrin.gif.

Man I just got screwed royally, I bought 7 Rolling Stone SACD from a guy, and was wondering what was taking so long emailed the guy, he said he had to step out for some sort of emergency which took longer than expected so he returned my cash back confused.gif That makes no sense at all rolleyes.gif

The whole mob thing of break a knee or two is becoming to make a sense at my age biggrin.gif because this sh!t seem to happen to me all the time..Do I have an invisible signature that says I'll let anything go if you give me a two bit story rolleyes.gif

Rant over...smile.gif

Carry on

Dan

Sorry to hear that! I've been lucky so far, but I'm sure the odds will catch up with me at this rate. I agree, the fact that the seller had an emergency is one thing, but the product is no longer available? Suspicious at best.
Thanks Steve, the truth is I made out pretty good so I shouldn't complain much as 20-12 was a good year from my sacd/hi rez collection cool.gif At least the guy send me my cash back.

Been a while since I last visited, I've had both my desktop and then my laptop give out on me. I was hoping to get a good suggestion on a "must have" new title. Got a great laugh from this post, you guys are the best.

Maybe at some point after I finish the major reconfiguration of my '95 Stang, I can find some time to get back here more often. Between the incredible Ascend speaker system, and working on the car, spare time seems to be at a premium.

Somebody, throw me a bone, I need some new music, preferably jazz!

Welcome back Jay smile.gif! I would suggest three Art Pepper APO SACDs that are available from Music Direct for $12.50 each. The three titles are So In Love, New York Album and The Intimate Art Pepper. I have these three SACDs and they all sound excellent.

Based on the track listings I may have to pick up The Intimate Art Pepper!

Well if you are going to buy one.................. wink.gif. I can't believe these APO SACDs that were remastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman are still available for $12.50 each. I'm glad I bought the Art Pepper meets The Rhythm Section and The Way It Was SACDs (for under $30 each) as I believe they are now OOP. So I'd grab these titles before they are OOP and the prices go crazy.

Thanks so much for the recommendation, picked up the three Peppers, along with Holly Cole's "Don't Smoke in Bed" and Michel Camilo's "Live at the Blue Note". I've been jonesin' for some new music for a while now, I feel the withdrawal symptoms subsiding already LOL!

Sad.

I suppose this explains why over a year ago I received Billy Joel's SACD of The Stranger from Jim Hef (asking me to make him an offer) and then never heard from him again.

Very sad indeed. It appears that Jim might have passed from pancreatic cancer. I read Jim's obituary and he was certainly a very interesting person. Too bad frown.gif.

I got the new music, what an awesome deal. Acoustic Sounds is both very quick, and their packaging is always VERY good. I never get broken cases like I sometimes do from other vendors.

The Michel Camilo's Blue Note concert was (for me anyway) what I would describe as a "desert island must have", a powerful, provocative, "tour de force" of a performance. Highly recommended! One of the best I've come across in a long while.

Just bought:

Dire Straits - Love Over Gold SHM-SACD

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I have wanted the SHM-SACD for quite awhile. I finally found one at a very good price so I couldn't resist biggrin.gif.

I've never met an SACD that I didn't like wink.gif.

When I got started on the SACD kick a few weeks back, this is one of the first titles I purchased. Went full retail because it was a must have. That and Making Movies.

Love Over Gold is one of those late night listens, when the house is perfectly quiet and the power grids are calm.

Hey Steve,

It seems like you've had the SACD habit longer than a few weeks biggrin.gif. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the Love Over Gold SHM-SACD smile.gif. I have heard the Making Movies SHM-SACD sounds slightly better than Love Over Gold. Maybe that one will be next although Communique would be my next choice.

Hey Dan,

MK here ahh I mean Bill wink.gif. I almost bought Love Over Gold a number of times but just couldn't pull the trigger. I've had the S/T SHM-SACD for quite awhile now and that sounds great.
