The Godsmack acoustic release is an outstanding disc but also commands a high price. As mentioned the Alice In Chains disc is fairly awful as is the Ozzfest release. Some of the Porcupine Tree discs can get pretty heavy at times and are excellent, if that's your cup of tea.

Yeah I avoided the AIC greatest hits disc based on the dismal reviews. I've also been leaning on DVD concert discs for surround sound playback. The AIC MTV Unplugged DVD is excellent as is the Nirvana and Eric Clapton discs.

If only MTV released 10,000 Maniacs Unplugged on DVD.

There's also Ministry Animositisomina in DVD-A , Linkin Park, Korn, and Disturbed Believe which I owned, and wasn't too happy with it, mainly the same reason Jeff touched on.Sounded a bit on the hookey side.

I was listening to Shelby Lynne's Just A Little Lovin' and Jacintha's Here's To Ben SACDs today which are both excellent sounding albums. So I thought I should grab a few more female vocal based SACDs.

Jacintha Lush Life SACD
Jacintha Autumn Leaves SACD
Holly Cole Temptation APO SACD

Steve,

Thanks to you for steering me towards the Porcupine Tree DVD-As smile.gif. At first the music wasn't appealing to me but the more I listened to each one I'm finding them quite enjoyable. My favorites are Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream.

Well I decided I needed a few Blues SACDs as well. Where is my SACDBA sponsor when I need him eek.gif. My former sponsor was Dan but he kept sending me ads from NYC for cheap SACDs biggrin.gif.

Eric Bibb The Spirit and the Blues MCH SACD
Eric Bibb Rainbow People MCH SACD
Eric Bibb/Rory Block/Maria Muldaur Sisters and Brothers MCH SACD

I haven't seen my family for the pass few days now, I'm in front of an abandon building waiting on two Armenian Dj's who claim to have a suit case full of the stuff biggrin.gif

Speaking of Blue's do you know any John Lee Hooker? I was wondering how good they sound, I have few red books, and I love them.

Oh gotta go, I think I see a 1987 white Mercedes Benz, with gold rims wink.gif

Hey Dan,

Isn't that what Tony Montana drives, be careful biggrin.gif.

I have John Lee Hooker's It Serve You Right To Suffer which is an excellent sounding SACD. I almost grabbed the Boogie Chillin' SACD a few times but the sa-cd.net ratings aren't very good.

I'm another recent fan of PT. For me, they really bring me back to my 70's progressive rock roots, but in beautiful 5.1 surround by Steven Wilson.

I'm currently on a flight from Philadelphia to Dallas...Can't wait to get home and see what SACD goodies arrive while I was in the big apple, courtesy of Dennis Klaus!

I don’t remember if it has been mentioned here but Steven Wilson is about embark on an American tour in April and has a new blu-ray disc coming out next month.

During the christmas sales I picked up a few SACD's that are well know recordings but are new to me and I have to say I am totally enjoying them. They are some of the SACD's and vinyl that have been done at Acoustic sounds reciently. I can't wait to have some friends over to share these with.

Dave Bruebeck Time Out
Shelby Lynne Just A Little Lovin
Holly Cole Trio Don't Smoke in Bed

I am really looking forward to some of the other discs they have scheduled to arrive in the next couple of months.

My feeble attempts to keep up with Bill Mac.

Willy,

Nice choices smile.gif. Before you know it you'll have a larger SACD collection than I have. There is some members over at the SH forum that have 400-500 or more SACDs eek.gif.

Dan

I hear theirs is polyploid. That makes is MCH in an orherwise 2-ch universe.

I'm new to this forum. I never got a SACD player. I bought several DVD-A discs back in the day: Pet Sounds, Allmans Live at the Fillmore. I never got into collecting them like I did the Mobile Fidelity Gold CDs at one time. Now I'm more into concert DVDs like Dire Straits and Led Zeppelin Celebration Day. I just sent for a 3D concert rental by Phil Collins. We'll see how that turns out. But it's cool to see what some people are collecting. I had no idea you could get old stuff like Miles Davis in Hi-res. Don't temp me.

I thought you were buying about 10 a day.smile.gif

I am a big vinyl fan so I am really picky about the SACD's I purchase, especially the 2 channel sacd's. I really appreciate this thread so I can add/eliminate some that I am considering.

I have changed my position on buying 2-ch SACD ... not my own buying, but others. I encourage everyone to buy as many of them as possible. That way, the MCH versions will be released sooner. wink.gif

Willy,

It just seems like 10 a day wink.gif. I'm on a roll the past couple of weeks but that will come to an end real soon. It is a good idea to be picky when buying SACDs especially ones that are priced fairly high.

Jeff,

Good luck with that position wink.gif. Actually I hope it works out well as we all benefit. You can count on me to do my part to buy as many 2CH SACDs as possible biggrin.gif.

^^

Speaking of 2 ch hires, any opinions on the downloads from hdtracks and the like? I have purchased a few but the download times dissuade me from buying any more and I have mixed thoughts about the sound quality.

I have downloaded the McCartney hires from the McCartney site and they too are very slow to download but the sound quality is superb.

I have a hi speed cable broadband connection via hard wired ethernet.

Hdtracks told me last year they were working on mch downloads but I haven't seen any yet and I can only assume the holdup would be their servers and the even longer download time since the file size would be a good bit bigger than even 2 ch.

EDIT: BillMac has started a thread about this

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1451508/roger-waters-amused-to-death-to-be-released-on-sacd
Just got an email from Acoustic Sounds about an upcoming Analogue Productions stereo hybrid SACD of Roger Waters' "Amused to Death"...James Guthrie is mastering it from the original 2-track analog master tape, there is mention that the album was originally mixed in "Q Sound" a virtual surround tech from the 80's and that the SACD will supposedly preserve the spatial effect. Release date on the website is Oct.15, maybe, just maybe, we'll get "The Wall" this year too.

Steve,

Thats a great price and you will enjoy this one very much smile.gif. I have the DVD-A and it sounds excellent in 5.1. I've compared the SACD to the DVD-A and to me they sound the same.

Damn...It happened AGAIN!! Another SACD hit my Amazon cart, this time it was the AP re-issue of Time Out (D Brubeck Quartet).
