It is a good day.

Had to update...listening to "Take Five" right now. I'm amazed at how dynamic this well over 50 year-old recording sounds. The drum solo and Desmond's sax flirting with Brubeck's steady piano riff....Classic.

So true great stuff, happy listening.

At that price, just call Music Direct and get 5 dollar us mail shipping.

I probably will check with Music Direct or Elusive Disc who normally has the lower shipping costs of the two. But I'll wait to see if the prices on this SACD drop a bit. I would rather pay $25 shipped opposed to $35 shipped.

Let us know what a fellow New Yawker thinks of it.

All,

Been a while...Just recieved two new releases...

Counting Crows - August and Everything After
Ella - Clap Hands

Both Acoustic Sounds/2 Ch SACDs. Good stuff. I had to take a purchase break to set up the new theater and actually listen to some of the hi-res library.

Good to see you back smile.gif! I thought of you the other day as I put some of those spare jewel boxes to use. Thats great that you are setting up a new HT and now have time to listen to that awesome SACD collection.

Hehe, I think anyone here could totally understand. I know I do!

I just got Depeche Mode's Violator DVD-A and it sounds wonderful!

I've also been purchasing music DVD's to make up for a lack of surround sound options for some artists. I also received Peter Gabriel's DVD Play.

Can't wait to blast this as well! And yes, I will certainly post my thoughts on the HC disc. I can't wait to hear it.

This thread is evil! biggrin.gif

edit: Listening to Play now. Man, the DTS track is very very very low in volume. What gives? The DD track is fine. So strange!

Amazon.uk has the better price but I wonder about the bitstream and menu issues others have reported with the import disc.
Still an import AFAIK. I can't speak for everyone but I have had no problems with bitstreaming or the other audio options. Great sounding disc and incredible value for Stone fans. The menu is crap. No track titles just numbers. If you want a specific track you have to find it on the back of the case and then click on the corresponding number. Hope this helps.

Good to know that you haven't had any problems. I went ahead and ordered from Amazon.uk earlier this week and I got a notice that it should be delivered Monday which is darn good. This is about 5-6 business days and at a cost of a only $4-5 bucks.

Looking forward to getting it - 50 top songs in hires for about $21 is definitely a huge bargain and one can overlook a clumsy interface or other shortcoming. What is also nice are the pcm tracks which I hope to be able to load onto my NAS as flac to stream and add album art and my own playlists.wink.gif

Trying out some recent releases...all in stock at elusive disc. Of course I had to spend over $100 to get the free shipping. Seemed silly not to. Lots of good feedback on the Holly Cole stuff and expect the same stunning sound on the PB release of her sophomore effort. The other two were "why not...good music"

Since we've been on the Patricia Barber thing recently I thought I'd report a new release of hers, Smash. It was released two days ago. I've only seen the CD at Amazon and her site, but I stumbled on it browsing through the HD Tracks new releases section. They have it as a 96/24 or 192/24 download.

You all know i'm a fan, so it will soon be downloaded!!

The Peter Gabriel Play DVD was one of the very first DTS 96/24 DVD releases and the initial production run have the low level issue. Apparently when the discs were authored the level offset was way wrong and in many cases with certain AVRs (especially Denon IIRC) resulted in very low playback level for the DTS 5.1. If you boost either MV or individual CH level or source level to compensate, be sure to DISABLE in the main menu the short introductions between each song because they are at the CORRECT level and I almost blew my speakers with the sudden level change! Search Peter Gabriel Play DVD on AVS and you'll find an old thread where this issue was discussed. Apparently at one time replacement discs were offered but doubtful that is still happening, I believe there was some spin that tried to blame certain hardware and not
the disc, if you have another system or PC to try it on it MAY decode the DTS correctly. Very unfortunate since this is the only disc besides PG's UP which has any of his studio work in 5.1.

That was my first Keb' Mo' album ... of any kind, and it is excellent both in his artistry and the recording.

The 5.1 mix uses quite a bit of reverb, which I find unpleasant and I usually prefer the stereo mix. But either way its a good listen.

Well maybe you find it unpleasant but I certainly enjoy the 5.1 mix very much smile.gif. I know a few others that own the Just Like You SACD and enjoy it as much as I do. To each his own I guess wink.gif.

Thanks for the reply, David. I started googling the issue and found several threads between AVS and other sites discussing it. I'm sending back the DVD, and I'll try purchasing it again, but I have a feeling I'm going to get stuck with the same problem even if people stated later pressings of the disc were fixed. Should I just suck it up and enjoy the DD mix?

Will do. I downloaded the new Patricia Barber this morning, but didn't get a chance to listen. I was going to downsample the 96/24 file to 44/16 and burn a cd to listen in the car, but couldn't find a blank cd!

It's easier to simply have a medical emergency and become sweet spot bound for a day and get the true read on the 96/24 file....that's what a true hi-res audio anonymous member would do (whatever Bill calls us). With self discipline like that, you may have the stuff needed to lead us out of this compulsive buying disorder that runs rampant in this thread.

Medical emergency! Why didn't I think of that.

Discipline, hardly, lead us out of the compulsive buying disorder?? That is the blind leading the blind...biggrin.gif

Martin,

That would be SACDBA (SACD Buyers Anonymous) smile.gif. I'm a proud member of that program but it doesn't seem to be helping eek.gif. I joined because I heard their weekly news letter had a classifieds section. Of course there is also DVDABA (DVD-A Buyers Anonymous), BRBA (Blu Ray Buyers Anonymous) and HDTBA (HD Tracks Buyers Anonymous). Plenty of help out there if anyone wants it wink.gif.
