Steve Wilson is leading the recent surround offerings by re mastering them, the ELP-Tarkus-The Old Tull stuff, either on BD or dvd a still. Besides his own work. Porcupine Tree has some of the best MC work out besides Steely Dan/Fagen work in MC. PorcupineTre is the most popular band no odey ever heard of.
The BD stuff is important because of it's brilliant surround.

Willy,

I have the age but not a huge amount of money wink.gif. Although I certainly can not complain as I have a great job and a healthly family smile.gif. The one to keep up with is Martin as he has waaaaaay more SACDs than I have eek.gif. Dan has me beat as well but as I close in he keeps buying more and more wink.gif.

Who, me redface.gif

Come on Bill you have an impressive library there, I've been collecting since the early to mid 2000's here and there but nothing like Martin, and a few others that climb in at over 300 plus discs.

My problem is that I spend too much on the gear and there is little left over for music. I now am thinking about a projector and screen and maybe even a new Oppo 105. And then long range I want 3 of those Parasound JC1 monoblock amps.eek.gif All this after just remodeling my room this summer by doubling its size and then of course I had to have new leather furniture, blah, blah. So, somewhere in there I have to find funds for music.

Tossed this One in the Oppo without knowing much of this guy, and I'm pleasantly surprised by this little diddly, it's The White man's blue simple recording nothing fancy, slide guitars and awesome 3d imaging, voice coming through clean, and sharp.

Highly recommend.

This definitely makes me want to get my hands on O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Soundtrack smile.gif

Should I just suck it up and enjoy the DD mix?
I have this DVD and while I've not noticed any low volume issue with the DTS mix, I've not found a significant difference between it and the DD track. I'd try returning it once, maybe you'll get lucky. Otherwise, it sounds very good in DD anyway, so I don't think it will be a disappointment.

I have the O Brother, Where Art Thou? and it is quite good as I recall been a while since I spun it.

If you like Jorma check out Hot Tuna...no SACD though as far as I know.

A pal of mine would play the O B,WAT? redbook all the time, and I enjoyed it, I'm sure in Hi Rez it should transcend nicely. I always assumed Hot Tuna was more like the Grateful Dead, which isn't my cup of tea. I'll check them out thanks

Thanks for the confirmation about the DD track. I sent back the DVD and I'll purchase it once more from Amazon.

Just picked up "Blood, Sweat & Tears". Amazon price is around $180, but got a much better deal on another forum. This is one of those DNA discs, having grown up in the 60's and 70's. Looking forward to it!

I went ahead and snapped up a used copy on Amazon for around 40 bucks. I sampled a few tracks on youtube and liked what I heard.

My gf's uncle is a big fan of Jorma and happened to mention catching him perform at Sanctuary Concerts in New Joisey and loved the show.

Thanks for the rec!

I tend to fluctuate...buy new equipment, purchase/listen to music, buy new equipment, purchase/listen, buy...you get it; it's a brutally expensive cycle/obsession. One tends to feed the other. But I'm rich in musical choices due to my choice to buy why you can. Certainly not rich in the bank...but there's a lot of enjoyment waiting to be heard on the shelf/on the hard drive as long as I can pay the power bill! Can't take it with you.

I Just wonder what will happen to this mess when I get "hit by that truck"??? The ones digging through the pile won't know the real value of this stuff.

I think the SACDAA needs to set up a library and we "will" our discs to the club...heck of a library to have/share. I nominate myself as the library custodian...anybody second that?

I hear you on that one. I am in the process of handling my Aunt's affairs now that her memory is shot. She has no kids or other family and her memory is already gone to the point where she doesn't know the history of any of her belongings. Some of her things may be heirlooms but I have no clue.

I'm trying to tell everyone in my family which recordings in my collection are rare and which ones are not. I'd hate to see my '60's Beatles Parlophone vinyl collection get carted off to Goodwill!

Just in case, can I get your approximate address or zipcode? I'd like to map out the Goodwill's in your immediate area wink.gif

I've had JW "The Well" for a couple weeks now. As always, that is a voice made for SACD. Sure wish we'd get more of her titles on SACD! Famous Blue Raincoat would be a must-have SACD for me!

I have always loved this BS&T album and last year purchased this SACD...it was expensive but IMO worth it, very pleased with the SQ. Definitely a "DNA" disc, also was able to get BS&T 3 on SACD, not as classic as the 2nd album but excellent SQ and not as expensive. Let us know what you think when BST 2 arrives. Here's a link to the BST 3 page:

BST 2?
Sorry if my post is unclear, scirica in his post was talking about Blood Sweat and Tears 2nd album, that is the disc I'm referring to in the first part of my reply, then mentioned and posted a link to the 3rd album's page on sacd.net. Or have I made some other mistake? I guess some might consider these 2 discs their 1st and 2nd albums since Al Kooper's BS&T "Child is Father to the Man" was a different BS&T than the one that featured David Clayton Thomas.

I think I get it now. BST 2 is not available in hi-res, but we wish it were.

I'm referring to BS&T's album "Blood, Sweat & Tears". Isn't that their first album?

Edit: Did my homework. Didn't realize "Child is Father to the Man" was their first!
Jeff AFAIK this is considered by most folks to be BS&T 2nd album, scrica posted about it originally and here's the link again.

It is a hybrid stereo SACD by MOFi.
Perhaps you are thinking about "Child is Father to the Man" which is not available in HI-Res?

Mobile Fidelity issued BST 2 in SACD. I'm trying to get a used copy now.

Technically. BS&T is their second album, but Al Kooper's BS&T was very different than after he left and Clayton-Thomas came in. I was actually, though, referring to the second album with David. Odd that they did the "first" and "third" and not the "second."
