Congrats to Patricia Barber and the crew who put her blu ray of Modern Cool together. Won a grammy for best surround album.

That is excellent news for PB and the crew that put the BR together smile.gif. Hopefully it is also good news in the form of more BR audio (Stereo and 5.1) releases from different artists. With this award maybe sales of the Modern Cool BR will increase which will really get the interest of the record companies (fingers crossed) wink.gif.

Purchased THIS one, which was recommended to me by a member at SHF, I've read a few reviews here there. It's suppose to be mellow saxophone reminiscent to Stan Gezt sound.

Also I had to purchase it from jpc euro site.

Have that on redbook and it sounds good. Imagine it'll get a boost on sacd. In Getz's neighborhood with the bossa nova sound but a sound unto itself at the same time. Hope you enjoy it.

I got my 5508 back from the repair center and back in my system, my wife will be visiting family and I have the evening to myself ... I will be spending it listening to some of the titles I binge-purchased and never played. Patricia Barber is at the top of the list!

I'm presently listening to the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet - Latin Album and it really is an excellent sounding MCH SACD smile.gif. It is well worth picking up as the price is under $20 shipped from Amazon.

Anybody know what spkr config MCH BD-Audio is mixed on/intended for? PB Modern Cool on right now and switched to my ITU surrounds. Btw this seems to be a very front-centric mix.

Sounds fabulous though!!!!

I think Modern Cool is one of the best sounding hi-res jazz recordings I have ever heard. The stand up bass in it is the best sounding recording of that instrument I have ever heard on my system. And the overall musicianship is incredible.

There is one song on there in particular that blows me away every time I listen to it..............I can't remember the track or title but it is mostly instrumental. I have several other SACD's from her that are good but nothing like this disc.

I attempted a comparison between the SACD and the stereo track of the BR. But the time between changing discs and for the BR to boot up it was hard to do an accurate comparison. There are volume level differences as well so it really wasn't worth it. In my opinion the stereo track of the BR sounded quite good. So if one doesn't have the SACD the BR really is the way to go. Here is a review by Kal where he found the stereo track of the BR to be superior to the SACD. So I would definitely go with Kal's thoughts as he most certainly has a much more experienced and discerning ear than I will ever have smile.gif.

I may take the time to convert a song from each to Apple Lossless and listen on my Ultimate Ears "in ear monitors." They could be played consecutively very quickly. Problematic is that I can convert DTS-HD MA quite easily while converting DSD will involve a process that many audiophiles would point to as suspect.

Or I might just try what you did, Bill, and do my best to characterize the two recordings

On another related subject, tonight I hope to compare the original Tarkus CD to the remixed stereo Tarkus CD to the remixed stereo Tarkus DVD-A.

While we are sort of discussing mch VS 2ch mixes...............When I ripped all my DVD-A discs to flac a few years ago, I did the MCH layer and the 24/192 2ch layers separately in order to do a comparison at some point. Well, I still have not gotten around to that task mainly because I like the MCH mixes so much. In fact, those 2ch rips are taking up disc space and I have been thinking of just removing them altogether figuring that I can always listen to the shiny disc if I ever get around to wanting to try this.
