Actually, SACD was developed by Ed Meitner(sic) for Sony when they were looking for a digital archival storage method.
Never originally intended for audio reproduction.
As to your question about who has DSD native downloads, AFAIK they are small indie companies.
I have a few Channel Classics SACDs and they offer downloads now.
I would encourage anyone who values SACDs that are exquisite in every sense of the word to check out this label.
