The beauty of all music is that it is open to interpretation. I like your tying these two together.

That'd be one interpretation. wink.gif

Actually it means tiny bud. I found it online, it came from the Eagles manager supposedly.

It is a Spanish idiom that literally means"little tail." A "cola" is a tail, but it is also a flower on a plant. Diminiatives are formed generally by adding "Ito/ita" so flower = bud and colitas = little buds.

I don't remember how I know that. wink.gif

How is the Celebration Day Blu-Ray ?

Many have been through their Led Zeppelin stages in life and all are better off for it.

I have the celebration day blu ray and I thought it was so so. Maybe it's the age of the band, so it was kind of hard to tell. Live albums are always a little rough around the edges IMO.

I haven't received it yet but I will post back once I give it a good listen. Yes, another one of those bands that has been seriously overplayed on the radio and must be listened to on a good system to really appreciate the music.

I had the same reservations but ordered it based on favorable reviews by so called experts. The price was right so I thought I would listen for myself. If the audio is lacking I can always enjoy the video and see if they have aged as well as me.wink.gif

Mine is just the blu ray audio disc. I should have bought the one your getting.

Steve,

Nice purchases smile.gif! The Forget About It SACD is outstanding. I don't have the Now That I've found You SACD but I'm sure that one sounds great as well.

Thanks Bill. I have them both on CD and I truly believe AK has one of the purest voices out there today. And I thought that pairing her with Robert Plant on Raising Sand was pure genius.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the K2HDCD's that are out there? I am looking at a Dan Fogelberg from Music Direct and a Hall & Oates but there are a lot of other titles available.

Curious if worth the $40 or so asking price.......

At their core, K2HD CDs are still regular CDs. The K2HD process involved remastering and manufacturing being done by JVC in Japan. The titles you mentioned were released by Hong Kong Sony Music and were intended only to be sold in that city. But $40/each is really price gouging....I paid about $25.00/each. Improvements are there, but they don't represent any night and day differences. Keep in mind that many of these same titles, in their regular CD versions, are available for less $10.00/each at your local Walmart / Target / Barnes & Noble. Some have call the K2HD CD version of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" the best CD version available.....but Japan Sony is set to release a Blu-spec CD2 version in September.

Quite a few years ago now when I was buying CDs from BMG I searched their catalog for "remastered" and went nuts buying probably 30-40 titles, mostly to replace already owned albums. I did comparison listening on about 25% of them and the differences were incremental but quite noticeable. However, I paid the same $4-$5 that I had previously paid. It was a no-brainer.

Now "incrementalism" is tarted up with marketing phrases and even social networking buzz, all designed to extract 5x to 10x the cost of the underlying CD. Well, caveat emptor.

Thanks guys. I have quite a few HDCD titles and I have found that the few extra bits does seem to add a little bit over the RBCD versions; However, like you, I am not sure it would justify the price premium of double or triple the RBCD. Some of the Tracy Chapman and Stephen Stills HDCD's come to mind but they were no more expensive than RBCD when I bought them. Tom Petty's Playback is supposedly HDCD and it contains six discs for about $35 which is a good buy - RBCD or HDCD.

Willy,

I would suggest joining the Steve Hoffman forum as it is an excellent forum for asking questions as you did above. When I first joined SH I was somewhat intimated as I felt I didn't know anything about music. But the further I read and posted I found I wasn't totally clueless. I can say without a doubt that I have learned so much about music and what are the best versions of specific titles to seek out since joining. I have also expanded my music genre listening which was mostly just classic rock for so long.

Thanks Bill. I have looked at the SH forum at times but haven't had the time to jump in, so to speak.

I think for $40 though, I will pass on them for now. If they ever get to $15-20 I may try one or two. I just bought 5 music blurays (DTS-HD MA) for $100 so I can't see spending $40 per K2 HDCD title. Makes no sense unless it is an OOP or rare recording or known title that is excellent.

Have listened to the Willie Nelson/Wynton Marsalis title last night and it is pretty good. The title should really be Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis and Norah Jones because she sings on almost all songs. The music and songs are excellent and the sonics are pretty good. If you can put up with Willie's quirky guitar playing, then it is a good listen. Wynton's trumpet work is excellent and Norah Jones is superb, as usual.

The America Live In Chicago title was so-so. It was a Soundstage performance from about 5 years ago.

Just preordered all from Burning Shed:

Blackfield IV CD/DVD includes 5.1 mix (lossy I guess)
Anathema live BluRay/2cd with orchestra
Katatonia "Dethroned and Uncrowned" CD/DVD with 5.1 (lossy again?)

Love surround, love these bands... can't wait!!!

Yesasia.com is where I get mine. These K2HD CD titles are discounted whenever they are released. But even when they go back to their regular prices, they are never even $30.00/each.

Well that's getting a little better but I still think I will pass on purchasing any now unless someone says that a particular title is far better than its RBCD version.

Thanks.

I sometimes skip over the "bluegrassy" songs, but the more traditional AK songs on this disc are fantastic. Looking forward to hearing it in MCH! I'm sure I'll never play my RBCD again!
