The only other Vangelis CD i have is the compilation "Themes" (which just been released on K2HD CD) but it's in storage, therefore I can't compare. Nonetheless, the "Blade Runner" soundtrack sounds great! I don't think you will be disappointed with the sound quality.

Bill

I have a few Bill Evans XRCD's (JVC) in my library and for the most part they are excellent recordings. I'd be interesting in your take on "Everybody Digs Bill Evans", "Waltz for Debby" and/or "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" as SACD releases. I would consider getting these on SACD if they have excellent reviews in this format.

Steve,

I don't believe Everybody Digs Bill Evans is available on SACD. I have the Waltz for Debby and Sunday at the Village Vanguard and they sound very good. Before I bought the Waltz for Debby and the Village Vanguard SACDs I bought the The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings three CD box set after reading this thread. The SQ of the box set is well regarded and some prefer it over the two SACDs from the Village Vanguard show.

I never did a comparison but I felt the SQ of the box set is very good and the CDs are in the sequence of the original five sets. The Waltz for Debby SACD is available on Amazon for $25 plus shipping from Acoustic Sounds. The Village Vanguard SACD is currently OOP but is supposed to be reissued in the future by Analogue Productions. I was lucky to grab The Village Vanguard SACD from Acoustic Sounds when they had a few copies for sale last year.

Here is another recent release of a '70's band with a Steven Wilson mix which I think contains a 2 channel hi res layer and a 5.1 layer on a DVD Audio disc. Appears to be a 3 disc set with at least one disc being a DVD A.

Just bought:

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms MOFI SACD

The BIA MOFI SACD is now in stock at importcds for $25.67 plus $2.99 shipping. I'm very interested in how the MOFI SACD will compare to the WG Veritgo CD I have.

Hey Bill congrats on this disc, I know you've had your eyes out for this one for a bit now, one question is this recording stereo only? I haven't played my BIA sacd for the past few years but I could have bet the farm that my version is 5.1.

Nothing new. I have Tiger Lily but now that I think about it, it is DVDA. I thought I had at least another one of hers in hi-res.........Will have to check. Got so darn many now I don't know what I have anymore and in what format. I should start cataloging this stuff but that would be too anal.wink.gif

I hear that. At one point mine were accurately cataloged in a spreadsheet but it probably needs updating. I hear Bill had to hire a full-time assistant for this very reason biggrin.gif.

Burning Shed says my Blackfield IV deluxe has shipped. They called the second disc DVD-AV so I was assuming a lossy 5.1 SW mix but Amazons description says MLP Lossless 5.1 and DTS. Guess I'll know next week!

Willy,

Definitely try to catalog everything so you know what you have but even more so for insurance purposes. I recently cataloged all my SACDs by copying and pasting my library from sa-cd.net. When I did that I put a replacement value on every SACD. I went with real pricing not the Amazon crazy pricing that some of the OOP SACDs have. I was shocked when I totalled the value of all my SACDs eek.gif. I also took pictures of all my SACDs, DVD-As, Blu-Rays and CDs for insurance purposes as well.

Steve,

Definitely update your collection for insurance purposes as I mentioned above. I definitely could use a full time assistant and I think I'll start interviews as soon as posible. I'll be looking for anyone that formerly worked at Hooters as a waitress on her resume biggrin.gif.

I read a lot of books and keep a spreadsheet of what I have read so I don't keep reading the same ones over and over again so I probably should do the same for my music. It is just a huge undertaking since my LP collection is at least 800 albums alone(and counting). Then I have that much again in CDs, SACDs, DVDAs, DVDs and BluRays combined. eek.gif I take pictures and keep them on a thumbdrive in a safe but that is just hitting the high spots............One of these days I may get around to it.

It would be nice to have some kind of hand scanner that reads the bar code in just a swipe like retail checkout.

Hey Dan,

I missed this post, thanks smile.gif. The MOFI SACD is stereo only. The reviews for the MOFI SACD are very positive over at SH. Some are saying it is possibly the best digital version of BIA. The price at importcds has dropped to $23.99 plus shipping. That is the lowest price I've seen and I would guess stock will sell out quickly. So if you want this SACD act fast (in my best informercial voice wink.gif).

I just purchased Steely Dan's "Gaucho" and am awaiting its arrival in the post. I've heard great things about this version and can't wait to spin it.

Looking hard at the new Vangelis "Blade Runner" disk. I have the regular version and it's pretty lush. Would enjoy more reviews from those who already have it.

"Gaucho" is one of my favorite albums of all time. My DVD-A of this release is amazing. As a matter of fact, I'm going to put it in right now!

I couldn't wait for the disc to arrive so I watched the movie to get into the mood ( first time in ten years ) and Voila! the next day the disc arrived. What a surprise it was to hear the tracks that were not included in the movie. Actually, those are the best tracks! Sound quality is superb.

If you like it, there's a three disc set that was released a few years back. Contains an additional disc of music from the movie (first disc is the same as the AF) as well as a third disc of new material that Vangelis recorded for this release. Sound quality is superb.

As always Bill, thanks for the clarity, not sure if I'll buy it but it's good to know the differences between the two.
