Yes. IMHO, for a pop recording, it does not overdo the surround effects.

well, i'm probably not your best source of info, then, since the SACD versions are the first time i've ever heard those albums- they were blind buys for me.
I do like both of them, though. Very nice mixes to my ears.

the can discs were a bit disappointing. stereo only, and not much better sounding than the cd's i already had.

oh, yeah, forgot Incubus- A Crow Left of the Murder. 'cause it sounds terrible! avoid.

I have Violator and Ultra sounds just as good I like all the newer ones,even Black Celebration,even if it's a little thinner sounding compared to Violator.

I received my DVD-A of Workingman's Dead from Tower this week and finally got a chance to give it a listen yesterday. It was a revelation! I'm not a Deadhead but am familiar with most of their "radio" songs. I was blown away by the surround mix of Uncle John's Band - it was like hearing the song for the first time! The way the instruments were spread across all 5 channels is spectacular. Thanks to BillW for the recommendation.

Also in the shipment was a "deluxe edition" of the Moody Blues' In Search of the Lost Chord that had a "Made in Germany" sticker on the front. Nowhere on the packaging or on the disc itself is there any indication that this is anything other than a remastered redbook CD. However, to my pleasant surprise, when I popped it into my Oppo player, the display said SACD and my receiver showed the converted pcm input (via hdmi) as 88 mhz! It's not multichannel, though, but sounds awesome nonetheless - especially when you consider that it was recorded 40 years ago!

Exactly. I don't think the people who criticize the Moodies SACDs figure this into their criticism. Personally, I think the Moodies SACDs are great, especially for a Moodies fan. If you like ISOTLC, then you should definitely try some of the others, which ARE multichannel (4.0). Unfortunately (and ironically), they "lost" the ISOTLC quad mixes.

Does anyone know if there any differences between the SACD and Dualdisk(DVDA) versions?

If you mean the music itself, it's completely different. Quality-wise I'd actually give the nod to Shangri-La. It's really well done. Not as in-your-face BIA's multichannel mix. But since it was recorded much more recently, the recording quality of Shangri-La is better.

BIA has actually been criticized as being compressed.

They're not DualDiscs. There is a separate CD and DVD. I have the CD+DVD version of Shangri-La but, unlike most people, I prefer DVD-A over SACD. I don't have Sailing to Philadelphia as hirez yet.

The mix of either of these on SACD and DVD-A are identical.

I got FIM's Smooth Jazz Festival in the mail yesterday. Popped it in (before the wife got home) Cranked up the Klipsch Ref's and was floored at the resolution and presentation. Highly recommend. I then went to my headphone rig and plugged up the AKG 701's once again. Stellar, by far one of the best recording SACD's I have heard to date. Need to save up my pennies for FIM's version of "Jazz at the Pawn Shop"

Brothers in Arms was one of the first all digital DDD recordings - which might have been great for CD, but you have to consider that the source was probably no better than 24/48, whereas Shangri-La was in the day and age where professional studios have 32/384 capability and was likely recorded at 24/96 or higher.

Absolutely amazing SACD. The multi-channel fix is friggin' awesome, never being gimicky, just adding an incredibly vast soundscape.

As for the material, I was never too fond of this in the early nineties, but since picking up the SACD last year I have really fallen in love with this. Pretty Hate Machine was my favourite album for probably most of the nineties, right up until I heard Before These Crowded Streets by Dave Matthews Band (which is dying for a 5.1 redo), but it wasn't until this SACD that I realised just how similar Violator was to Pretty Hate Machine.

Great songwriting, absolutely stunning on SACD.

Berlioz - Requiem

Finally getting to hear this work as Berlioz envisioned it, despite some odd tempo choices compared to the Boston/Munch recording. The sound is ravishing.

Mahler - Symphony No. 2
Budapest Festival Orchestra, Ivan Fischer, cond.

Like I needed another Second. This makes seven versions in my collection and the second one in SACD.

Still waiting for AcousticSounds to send me the 2nd Genesis box set.
