What are your most recent Hi-Res purchases? - Page 313

Just bought at Acoustic Sounds:

audio fidelity Man Of The World-Reflections On Peter Green SACD

This is a Steve Hoffman mastered disk but does get some mixed reviews. I figure for $5 (yes $5) I can draw my own conclusions.

analog productions Counting Crows: August and Everything After SACD

This is one of my favorite albums from the 90's and probably in my top ten of all time. I'm not sure what it is about this album, but the song writing and the way that Adam Duritz brings those songs to life keeps me coming back to this album on a regular basis 20 years later. I've hemmed and hawed on this purchase for a long time, but no more.

Put me down as "mixed." I am glad I only paid $5.

Since Bill hasn't posted in a while I thought I would fill the void.smile.gif

Just bought this SACD from Acoustic Sounds (along with several 180g and 200g vinyl records to get my wallet a little thinner. eek.gif):

Also, as an update on my saga with importcds, I ordered the Jazz at the Pawnshop from Classical Music Superstore via Amazon and received it in 5 days. Price was even a few bucks less than importcds and the packaging was excellent. Amazon refunded my shipping costs for the one that importcds cancelled.

This set box set appears to be a bargain: 3 SACD discs plus a bonus DVD. Haven't listened yet but but reviews are good if you like soft jazz.

I really wish they release the two albums where Michael McDonald "took over."

The Legend of Zoro Ever since Bill purchased this one, I tossed this one in my amazon cart but noticed they where being brought so I did what ever audio freak would do and pulled the trigger before the prices zoomed up.

Stravinsky: The Firebird Not too sure why I purchased this one but it has been in my Amazon Cart too long.

Blade Runner Got this one over the holidays, had the feeling the price would hike up after wards!

It was recommend to me buy my Japanese Intern she has lovely taste in music, from rock to classical.

Stan Getz Spring is Here Should be in everyone's SACD collection is you're into jazz.

Sara K - Play on Words I got this one over at Ebay, another one from Bill's awesome collection

Holly Cole Temptation I always thought I own this copy, it's in my ITunes library and I could have swore I've had this in my hands, but when I went to do a double check it was there. Too good to not own it, and play it on Friday nights.

Willy,

Good to see you are stepping up to fill the "void" biggrin.gif. I've been on a jazz XRCD buying binge along with buying a new preamp. So my SACD purchases have been taking a hit wink.gif. Glad you got the issue with the Jazz at the Pawnshop sorted out.

Dan,

Some nice purchases there smile.gif! I have yet to listen to the Zorro sound track but I'll have to get to that real soon. I really enjoy the Stan Getz Spring is Here SACD. It is a great sounding jazz SACD that is still available at a reasonable price. SaraK is another fine sounding SACD as are all of her SACDs.

I got it more for Ennio Morricone's music but this Yo-Yo Ma Plays Morricone SACD is absolutely superb, both from a musical and audiophile perspective. The hype surrounding Yo-Yo Ma's playing is justified, the man is a virtuoso.

Agree...this ones on my regular play list when I have a good block of time. It sucks me in and it's near impossible for me to turn off.

I was listening to CCR's Cosmo's Factory (APO) ...what a great SACD, just blooms and comes to life when you turn it up. Eleven + minutes of "Heard it Through the Grapevine" is awesome. It convinced me I needed to complete the CCR APO Hoffman collection. Picked up a very good used version of Pendulum on Amazon...$22. The last missing piece for my CCR collection. The individual offerings seam to be mostly out of stock in the usual places and I was a bit surprised to see the Amazon prices moving up on these. You can still pick up the 7-disc box for $250 from Acoustic Sounds. Keep what you like, sell the rest.

For $13 I will take the jump. Look forward to giving it a spin early next week. Listen to AK's New Favorite as it arrived today after 3 days of no mail delivery, so much for the rain , snow, sleet not stopping the mail. Talk about 40 minutes of bliss. Wish I hadn't waited 5 years to buy it.

After ordering the SACD from amazon.com, I got the email stating the album is available immediately via download and/or streaming. Getting into bed I was going to listen to the album for a few minutes streaming to headphones from my cell phone. I ended up listening to the entire album. Exquisite, thanks! Can't wait to hear it on the big system.

I'd be interested in your impressions of the Queen disk, assuming it's a High Fidelity Pure Audio release.

As far as the Seahawks are concerned, it's about time.

I just listened to the Supertramp Breakfast in America SHM-SACD and it sounds excellent smile.gif. Well worth the investment with this one IMO.

I have the Blu-ray audio disc version of this album. Given both versions were released at around the same time I wonder how much they differ...

All of the HDCD discs I have sound great.
I don't know if it's in any way attributable to HDCD.

From what I have read the SHM-SACD and the Blu-ray have different masterings. Over at the Steve Hoffman forum the SHM-SACD seems to be the preferred version of those who own both discs.

I was generalizing in my cynical style. But then I did buy four (or five!) different versions of Fifth Element. eek.gif

Does anyone read anything about John Lennon Imagine on Blu Audio? There are a few review over at Amazon but its hasn't been release yet, one of the review is on wrong format, it's about the actual documentary, I think?
