Burn Notice on USA HD - Page 39

I'm still a couple eps behind, just watched the hacker ep where Michael hooks up with Sonya at the end. Gotta say I like her much more than Fiona too. This season has also been much better overall, IMO.

Also, that ep was directed by Jonathon Frakes and the head bad guy (played by a guy from the newer V series) was named Jack Frakes, got a chuckle out of that.

Last Thursday's episode was good- it had great tension.

So is Mike supposed to be open to defecting to James?

I'm trying to hold on...

By-the-numbers episode this week

I find James the least interesting villain in a long time. I would much rather have Adrian Pasdar back. I expect we are supposed to sense a "quite menace" from James but he just feels flat and lifeless to me.

At this point for me, it's like watching an accident of some sort - you know you should look away but don't.  The silliness of the plot has gone beyond even comic belief.  James is so careful he won't meet Michael in person or even allow his first name to be known and puts him through days of torture and drug induced questions.  But then just invites Sam, Jesse and Fiona over for some work and goes to see Michael's mom for a chat.  So much more, but little time left, thankfully.  Fonzi long ago got off the shark and was swimming for shore when this season was put together.

Truth be known, a bunch of us have been reduced to "hate watching" at this point. Sad that it's come to this, but some folks don't have the decency to leave when it's time. At this point, BN is kind of like a relative that shows up at your door unannounced. You're not terribly happy they're there but you have to be polite and accommodate them anyway, because that's what family does. Fortunately, you know this visit will about be their last. tongue.gif

What we didn't see was James' Demolition Co. move in and level the buildings afterwards. At the current rate there are not going to be many buildings left standing in Miami.

I stopped watching this show during the middle of last season, and came here to see if I missed anything worthwhile. I'll probably catch the last episode to see what happens to Mikey and crew.

Yep this really bugged me too - as long as Mikey's good the whole crew's good too! Um, seriously?

Oh well, not much fight left in this dog anyway...

Speaking of which, didn't Mike & Co. torch his loft within the last season or two (they've kind of been running together)? Yet, it appears to have been rebuilt and he's still living there in various states of torment and anguish. I know, I know, in the vast scheme of things that's a pretty minor quibble. What I'd really like to see is Maddie giving up the smokes in the finale. Honestly, I worry about her.

If you remember Mike and Fi came up with a really poor attempt at arson that didn't cause the place to explode as is usually the case with everything they detonate. So the end result seems to be some charring, smoke and water damage and a few melted snow globes so Mike can rehearse for The Crow remake.

This isn't the first time at all where I've felt like I was beating my own head up side a wall, but I think it's the first time where I was as beat up as Carlos by the end of the episode...

So is Mike turning BAD???

Can't wait for the surprise visitor next week. wink.gif
post #1154 of 1225
So let me get this straight - Mikey gets in a rubber dinghy for an 'overseas' trip and next thing you know he's in the Canary Islands? From Miami? I WANT ONE OF THOSE MAGIC BOATS!!!

biggrin.gif
I thought the same thing at the time. Aren't the Canary Islands out in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa? Helluva trip. eek.gif

Maybe Mikey is breaking bad? Maybe James is making the blue meth?

Oh, and I forgot my annoyance at the VO at the beginning of the show. "When you're a spy and you don't know what the mission is that is not a good thing because you want to know what you are getting into. If you knew what the mission was, then you could be prepared. Sometimes your equipment will tell you what you are doing. If you bring a long evening dress, prepare some songs for the gay karaoke bar."

The new darker Burn Notice hasn't been entirely successful it seems to me. For instance, Michael's assassination with a sniper rifle of Roger, his old colleague and fellow spy, was a real turnoff. The episode did get better, though, with the slick twist that ended up with Carlos's nemeses, Nando, being killed. It was also interesting that Carlos has decided to move on. I'm with Burn Notice until the end but agree with the opinion already expressed by others that it's time for the show to go.

The surprise guest has to be Simon. This season has been a roll call of minor characters from past seasons making guest appearances. Even dead ones.

It's not magic. It was a specially designed high-tech spy boat that converts into a hydrofoil/submarine/jetboat.

James has access to everyone and everything. Especially equipment that it is above top top secret.

When you're a spy, you stand in a crowded market outlining a mission to kill someone and say spy over and over to remain covert. It's very dangerous meeting your handler so you have to keep a low profile. Especially when you are undercover within an organization that can supply you with hydrofoil jetboat submarines.

Magic boats and airplanes that cover amazing distances are nothing...when you can just call in your own Air Strike to take out a building in a foreign country with impunity and within minutes.  I guess those pilots are on permanent standby in secret bases all over the world.  What a joke this has sadly become.

The other solution would have been to just stop him on the road again. Except next time bring a pair of rocket launchers or grenade launchers. Surely that would be easier to arrange than bombing his compound from the air? Given how easily the windows of the SUVs shattered Roger was clearly not using armored vehicles.

I'm totally not getting why they've taken Mike out of character this season, an assassination like this is something he's always avoided from the beginning. It doesn't bode well for how this is going to end, me thinks.

I also think the shocking reveal next week is going to be his dad Frank back from the dead.
It doesn't really bother me that Michael is killing people this season. It's not something he hasn't done before. On two occasions we've seen him execute someone.

The fact that over the past seasons he always manages to find a way to avoid killing someone has been too convenient, so it's about time he was put in positions that he cannot scheme his way out of. Even Sam had to kill this season too.

I'm expecting the events so far to be the primary reason that he drops out of the spy game. Michael's original goal was always to be unburned so he could rejoin the CIA and after what he's had to do undercover working with James I think the show will use his distaste for those missions to put him off the spy game permanently. He just isn't the same person he was in his pre-burn days.

He'll probably start a yogurt shop with Fiona.

I still say it's Michael's father.

With 3 episodes still to go I reckon that if Weston Snr is going to make an appearance it will be in the penultimate episode. Then Michael can shoot him in the finale.
LOL. I wonder if there's any chance Mikey will buy the farm in the last ep given the turn he's taken lately.
The show has to go out with Weston and Fi together. I don't see an ending where he dies and his mom is further traumatized, BN is at heart still a fairly light action romp and I expect the final scene will involve Sam and at least one mojito. I wouldn't be surprised if he responds to a question with "You know spies ... " or Weston saying "When you're a spy etc. etc."

Followed by a Police Squad freeze frame as they clink glasses. biggrin.gif
post #1168 of 1225
A mojito sounds good to me!

+1

I too think it'll be his dad, but the REAL shock will be that his mom knew that his dad was alive the whole time! eek.gif

Well, I guess not. Not sure I really liked the ep. Of course, when they showed GD's name in the opening, I knew Simon was back. I just get the feeling that the tone of this show is really mixed up. They seem to be trying to go dark but they have these characters that it doesn't really feel that comfortable with. Simon dies much like the scene in Saving Private Ryan where the knife is slowly inserted. I guess with 2 more to go that Michael is going to have to figure out what is right and wrong. I'm not sure he'd leave his friends and mother out to dry. I'm guessing a self-sacrifice at the end.
