Sam's Club guy quote: Plasmas suck for video games

Compared to LCDs.

True? Not true?

I got the 6070 from there and would eventually like to get a video game system hooked up to it but wondering how it will be...
I steer people away from plasma's if they do a lot of gaming, but my reasons may not be pertinent to whether they "suck for video games or not".

Ok thanks.

what are your reasons for that?

and for someone who plays just once in a while, it shoudl be alright I am guessing?

Because while you may be very careful not leave the console and plasma on overnight; stuck on a static screen, that doesn't mean my clients 11yr old son is

Hadn't thought of that

Just wanted to chime in and say that I use my plasma for gaming, and its great, but i would make sure the game at least fills the whole screen, or zoom it, etc.

I mostly play widescreen PS3 games, but i wouldnt be playing 4:3 games for hours at a time, at least not on my plasma

From what I have read Madden 08 was causing some IR issues...because of the bright EA logo in the corner...but just switch it to Discovery HD for a little while after gaming. I have also been told that you shouldn't turn the set off after gaming, be sure to watch some regular programing to remove any IR that may have occured. With the new plasmas and the pixel shifting feature that some sets have, IR and Burn are not such a problem as it was before...and try to stay away form marathon gaming...just my .02

Love my plasma for gaming (360). Yes, I get IR, but it goes away. Had a bioshock marathon of about 8 hours straight and had some bad IR. Went away after a few hours of watching something else. That was my biggest IR issue.

My panasonic plasma is a week old and all I did was set the picture setting down on my xbox 360 input. I play a few games of madden at a time and just make sure to change aspect to zoom for a few seconds every 15-20 minutes or so. No IR at all so far.

(although I did get some IR when sitting on the theatertek file browser for a few minutes on a black background... the IR only lasted a few seconds after playing the video... so what I did for that is turn on transparency so the video can show through the window).

Always trust what the salesman tells you. Obviously they could be making a lot more money with their brains but they choose to work at SAMS/Bestbuy "for the discounts".

I just turn down the settings a little on the game input and play freely on my plasma. My plasma is 3 months old and I played bioshock also for about 3 hours straight, had a little ir switched to hdnet and it went away about 3 minutes. I don't know about playing 6-8 hrs straight sessions, I would at least take some breaks in between.

I'm ready for a new set and want the Pio 6010 or 150fd bad! Whats holding me back is 2 small children combined with video gaming and potentially the worst of all, a DVR with a "Pause" button.

I'm scared to death if I get a 6010/150fd, one of my kids would hit the Pause button and walk away for an hour (which has happened numerous times, O.K., all the time actually).

Because of that, I'm struggling with making a decision. 60" Pio 6010/150fd, 52" Sammy 71, 52" Sony XBR4 or the soon to be out Mits 52" 144 series LCD.

Again, I really like what I've seen with the 6010 but am afraid of what might happen so I'm still considering an LCD set. I'm going to wait to see the Mits 144/244 (out soon) before I make the final call.

I game on my plasma for considerable amounts of time. And when madden came out I played that on my 360 with a lot of my friends. And when we would go out to get some food we would leave the tv on and sometimes we would even be gone for hours. And even then I never had a burn in problem or image retention problem. I never took any of the precautions (although I should) and it hasn't affected my plasma.

I use my Pio 5080HD for Gaming/Movies mostly. My wife likes TV, but I prefer the 1st two uses. I followed the recommended 100 hours break-in period and didn't use XBox 360 at all during that period. Now that I've had the TV for two months, I play all the time. I am absolutely pleased with the quality of the image, the quality of the TV, and no image retention whatsoever. I highly recommend the 8G Kuros, excellent TVs for the price and the best picture quality in my opinion!

Are Sam's Club staff considered to be very knowledgeable about HDTV flat panels?

NOT TRUE

You cant beat plasma picture quality and speed for gaming !

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TV PERIOD.

Why I'm so convinced of that ? I've tried All of them with my Playstation 3 and only plasmas gave me the kind of Arcade quality picture you are looking for. Perfect contrast, colors and speed with a tangible 3D effect in the picture.

Comparing side by side with the best LCD, the lcd picture looked dehydrated, not punchy at all and 3d effect was minimal even with 120hz lcd.

both sets were calibrated. It was a panasonic 42PX77 and a Sony 40D3000.

I've tried many other tvs too..agin plasma win everytime.
No image retention .Dont use dynamic or day setting because picture is ugly with both tv and it will cause image retention with plasma in minutes.

I've been gaming my 360 on my Panny 75u for about 3-4 hours at a time. I've never experiened any sort of IR on my set. As far as I know, Pioneers and Panasonics are pretty good as far as having the least amount of image retention. What I find ironic is that I have friends that have Samsungs, which supposedly have the most protection features when it comes to burn-in and image retention, yet its their panels that get the worst IR.

BTW, just to make you feel better, a 360 is more likely to crap out after 3-4 hours of straight gaming than a plasma getting a burn-in.
