Vista Audio Problems

Basically, the problem is my audio driver seems to think my microphone isnt plugged in (and before you ask, YES, it is). Obviously it will not work in this state. I have downloaded the latest drivers and did a bit of research in intel's database and i think the source of the problem might be it is trying to use 6 channel audio when all i want is 2 channel because i use a headphones/microphone setup. It thinks my line in and mic ports are not what they should be(C Sub for line in and RL RR for mic). Any assistance would be very useful and i thank you for your time.

Have you tried upgrading your onboard/soundcard driver yet?

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound -> Sound

At the first tab, choose Speakers and click on Configure down below, set it to Stereo (to force a 2.0 setup) and click Apply then OK.

At the second tab, choose Microphones and configure it.

Hopefully it works for you

I have already tried both of those things with no luck. I am running Vista which i am sure is contributing to this problem (Vista sucks, IMO). My motherboard is an Intel (DP965 LT). I Have latest drivers. I even searched for some alternative audio drivers and nothing seems to work (SigmaTel and Realtek). Honestly, im at a loss. Im 2 seconds away from saying **** this and buying a Soundbalster sound card or something. Thank you for your replies.

I have Vista on a Sony laptop and the audio input and output jacks work just like you'd think they should. And it is Intel audio drivers also. I don't think this has too much to do with Vista. It could also be that your microphone is bad.
