Just another $5.00 added on top of everything thing else. It is really starting to add up now. Lease fees, DVR fees, HD Access, HD Extra Fee, Protection Plan Fee....

Yep, its adding up to way too much for me. With my cable co I have 4 premiums in HD (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax Starz), plus all my locals in HD including my RSN, and 12 other HD channels, an HD DVR and 2 regular HD boxes, all for $92.00.

To get all this thru D* its gonna cost me $136 + tax. No tx, Ill stick with what I have.

Yes, it sounds like the CONUS beam is working well and the D* release stated that the 100 HD channels will be available by the end of the year. My question was whether this would affect the early rollout this month? Since D* hasn't really announced a date (a smart move) they could easily wait a bit for resolution and still complete the 100 HD channel rollout by the end of the year. Of course this is all speculation and doesn't change a thing anyway

Except D* is announcing a date. Their CSRs were instructed to tell all HD subs that the first batch of channels will roll out next Wednesday.

And who else is gonna get smart on this? Also, cable/fiber companies can offer On Demand and phone/Internet bundling, something D* can't do. If cable cos don't get too greedy, and can essentialy match the PQ and especially channel selection of D*, they look to be in good shape to get current D* customers (and completely new customers who'd ordinarily get D*).

DirecTV has On Demand in beta testing, from what I've heard.

And coming from Comcast...it's certainly not cheaper. I switched from there, and haven't once regretted it...$5 extra is worth all of these extra channels that cable companies show no real signs of getting (at least not Comcast).

I've had D* for over 10 years now, I agree this is a rip off... so is the price of D* before these increases. However, the competition isn't any better. It least the competition is Syracuse NY. (Time-warner)

$5 extra would definitely be worth it to me. In my case its about $45 extra to get what Im getting from cable though.

The only thing Im really gonna hate not having is TBS HD for the baseball playoffs and NFL Network in HD. Everything else I can really do without. I watch sports, movies, and a small amount of network TV, so all those other channels are pretty much useless to me.

Not that I wouldnt love to have them for channel surfing purposes, but for $45 extra its pretty much not an option, just on principle.

If you like movies, won't you miss the new Starz HD channels and all the extra HBO and Cinemax HD channels that are coming. Showtime Too is coming as well?. Maybe those aren't still worth the extra money to you but D* will have the most HD movies channels as well as the most HD sports.

Yes they are and i have 90s on all. I can almost smell it HD HD HD HD!!!! My wife said i need to work for Directv monitoring department i have bin up a few nights now waiting.

I'm with you. Furthermore like in my case where the nearest cable hook-up is three miles away and the cable company would not bring it in. Back in Nov. 95 I said to them fine and I subscribed to D*. Who knows what else it is going on that some of us don't know about!

Then again, I didn't invest anything more than $200 for the HD-DVR.

Problem is the $4.99 isnt for the 100+ channels. Its just for the channels that are only available in hd. It seems channels that we have grown attached to like HDNET will have to have their value reassessed. Just how many channels make up this select group anyway?

Quick question, I'm only getting a high of 83 and that is on 1, the rest are in the low to mid 70's. Should I be calling D* Sky is clear and no obstructions? This is on 103b.
As far as the extra $5.00 a month, for now I don't even the choice of cable, so looks like I will shell out the extra, but I need to know if I should them out to check the alignment.

Im mainly interested in new releases, and the new releases pretty much always get shown on the main channels, then the subchannels later on.

I still have no problem with that. I think it's 6-8 channels. If we weren't getting 100+ channels, the fee wouldn't be there - we are, so it is. That's the way I view it.

They need to just charge everyone $1 and stop nickle and dimeing the HD crowd. We all pay for something we dont watch. So the SD viewers need to pick up the slack for HD viewers. They can also probably make more money with a $1 extra from everyone then $5 from just the HD crowd.

Heck, make it $.50, and most people won't even notice if it doesn't take the total to the next dollar amount...
