Official Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH thread

The 94 has a big thread, why not the 92. Tell all about performance, setup, problems, etc. Let's move this thread so others will be convinced this is a great receiver.

I owned last years 82 and loved it. I upgraded to this years model due to the new audio formats and the 1.3 sync with my upcoming Kuro. Once the Pio 95 BD player comes out, it will be a perfect mate with the 92.

I ran the MCACC( very easy to do), just like the 82 and was impressed with the new 4th gen options. I still run my speakers as large and SW as plus and get more than enough bass from my velodyne when LFE is present. Plus I get that warm deep sound from my NHT LR towers and the 92 together. The sound is identical to the 82, which also sold me.

As for the 94, I do not see myself ever needing a 4th HDMI, the power was not an issue, and I still do not believe that the Ethernet port is going to allow a correct firmware update. I still think it will have to be brought into a service center, if one is ever needed. I do not need internet radio either. So the 92 was more than fine for me.

I read an earlier comment about the guy returning the 92 for an Onkyo. Folks, I will tell you, and probably hear about it, that I would never buy an Onkyo receiver. Just remember that for all you get in those models, why is the price so low?? I believe their quality is terrible and have had several friends who have owned past Onkyo's only to get rid of them due to problems. I have never has a problem with my 82, or the 92 and have connected many different players to them. I have connected a Sony BDP S1, just like the earlier poster and it played BD's perfectly. But who knows.

I noticed that many people do not read the manuals thoroughly to understand HOW the inputs work and work properly. If you are getting bars, then check your DVD settings first, then the receiver's manual. 10-15 years ago, I would only buy Sony receivers. I still like their stuff, but the Pioneers have sold me on sound over the last 5 years or so. The inputs and soundfields were all simple, now there are 50 different ways to change things. Be patient and enjoy the receiver. It is one of the best I have ever owned.

Use this thread to help yourself to knowledge. But remember that listening to this receiver with some good quality speakers in the showroom is the only way to sell yourself on it. I, and I know others feel this way, the Pioneer Elite's just have that warm musical feeling to them. The bass doesn't beat you up, the high's are almost moist (I know, sounds weird), the mids seem always tight and accurate, no matter what source is playing. When watching movies, the voice is always as realistic as I can remember. This is what I wanted in a receiver and got it. Good Luck and enjoy.

The player was connected to my 82 about 6 months ago. The player was a friends, so I do not know what firmware there was. I do know, that I plugged it into the same input I use for my PS3. It was kind of my testing ground. I watched a movie on his S1, then watched a movie on my PS3. Both looked great, and hence I did not need the S1. There should be no difference between the 82 and 92 connections (besides the HDMI 1.2a and 1.3 factor, which means nothing in the overall signal sense) . As the PS3 and same DTV box play the same on the 82 and 92. As a matter of fact, when I connected the PS3 and DTV to the 92, it played beautifully right away. I do not know why your S1 is not playing. It should not be a handshake issue at all, but you never know.

Your best bet is to try and get one from a Magnolia. You can usually negotiate with them, or they may have their 12% off coupons still.
