I updated my 94 to the latest because this receiver will be used for a very long time. I've tamed my upgraditis habits in this economy.

I assume I will need to unhook everything and ship it somewhere (at my expense) to update it?

Yes unhooking and rehooking my 94 was something I did not look forward to, especially the rehooking part, however, once its upgraded, no more worries.

If you can't find a service centre that is within driving distance to drop it off than you will be responsible for shipping charges. However, if you do a service centre search there may be one close to you. Give Pioneer a call and see if they can help you.

ok, pioneer is sending me a letter to take it in to a service center.

Hi guys, I'm finally getting around to sending in my 92 for the firmware and was hoping you could tell me what the absolute most recent numbers are so I can document them in the packing slip. I appreciate it, thanks in advance.

How does one get the ball rolling to send the 92 in to get updated? Do I need to contact Pioneer first to get a RMA?
Hi Stu I'm back. I sent you a pm and will call you this afternoon.

Stu, you'll need to call pioneer and have them send you a letter which you will provide to the service center. in the meanwhile you can work on convincing your wife that windows are overrated

Thanks...I will do so, hate to have the 92 gone and everything all taken apart but it would probably be a good thing since my HDMI is still an older one H1.006

Stu, I am curious. Are you actually having a problem with the 92; is it not doing something that you want it to do? If not, why mess with it?
I have a 92 which I purchased in August 2008 and has not been updated. I have a number of components connected to it including a Pio 51 blu-ray player. Using the settings suggested in Post #7 of the '51' thread everything works perfectly.
Put another way if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

Motto of this - worry less!

Since sitting down after that statement I made and looking at the 92...forget it...if something goes amiss then I will go about doing the firmware updates but until then...tally-hoooooooooo

Stu is your 92 still under warranty? If it's under warranty the upgrade is free. Otherwise it cost around $100 after the warranty period ends. mine ran fine, but I did mine a month before the warranty ran out so I didn't have to pay the $100.
might as well do it while its free
Stu, a word of caution or information I should say. When they update it the 92 will be reset to factory defaults. You will loose absolutely every setting you've configured including input label names, input setup etc... Everything will be reset just as if you took it out the box for the first time.
Stu, just saw your pic. Where is the mic when you run MCACC and where do you sit when you listen to movies/music?

oooh, fun! may as well wait then till after the update to fine tune everything.
Yeah I had to decide whether to save $100 now and redo everything or wait. I'm glad I did it, because people with Pioneer receivers are having HDMI handshake issues with the new projector I just bought. The main upgrade done to 92 is to correct HDMI handshake issues so I'm glad I did it last November, so I can enjoy the projector instead of waiting.

Hi Legairre...

When I run MCACC, I use my LP where I sit (others will have to be happy with what they hear...mean aren't I..lol) and I use a tripod at ear level when I place the mic! It's on the main couch in the pic..not the loveseat on the right wall!

I am going to wait since everything is working fine...maybe after we move and I get a projector and a dedicated HT room, I'll send it in (or hopefully sell it and get a SC-09TX...yeah, then I woke up..lol) I might go ahead and send it out to get upgraded...Question, does authorized service center do the updates as well? I would rather physically bring it in and have it done then going through shipping and wait times!
Hi Stu, yes authorized centers do the work, but not all can do the upgrade. I was lucky and had a center 20 mins from my house. I dropped it off in the morning before work and picked it up the same day on my way home.
The only service centers we have around these parts are for John Deere's...lol!
I might give a call to see if there is any centers in Chicagooland since I go up there alot...if so, I might unhook and bring it with but until then I am good!
in NY the service center needs 7-10 days.

I have a feeling my Pioneer 92TXH is causing my audio issues with the recently released Minority Report Blu-ray.

When I try to play back the DTS-MA audio track, I get terrible distortion of the soundtrack. It sounds similar to the sound I hear when I try to play the 192khz soundtrack from the Akira BD.

I've tried two copies of the movie but get the same result. If anyone picks up Minority Report please let me know if you experience the same issue.

My 92TXH is not upgraded with the latest firmware.
With old firmware, there is a known bug that certain DTS-HD MA track decoding will result in distored sound. Updates fixed it.

Thanks Foxbat,

I had a feeling that was the case. This is the first DTS-MA track I've had an issue with.

I'll bite the bullet and call Pioneer tomorrow. I doubt there are any service centers in my area and I'm not looking forward to paying the shipping costs to get the firmware updated, but it beats buying a new receiver I guess.

You can look up service center locations on Pioneer's web site and call the center directly to see if they do firmware updates.
