Official Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH thread - Page 9

Does anyone else have a toshiba HD-XA2 or HD-A35 connected to their VSX-92? I have the XA2 and upgraded the firmware last night so it can pass bitstream audio to the receiver. It works great when passing TrueHD but has a problem when passing dolby digital plus (audio drops out for a split second every minute or so).

Has anyone else heard of this and if so has anyone contacted Pioneer to see if they are going to correct it via firmware update?

Long discussion in the A35 thread about this issue. Some A35 owners report no issues whatsoever. Some (like me) have DD+ dropouts when using HDMI bitstream. PCM works fine and all other bitstream codecs are great. It's only on DD+. You are the first one I've seen report having an issue on an XA2 since it got the firmware update 2 days ago.
I also have a 92 so the more and more this has been discussed in the 35 thread, the more I think it is an issue in the AVR and not the 35. Let me stress though...I think! No concrete evidence either way yet.

I ended up returning the 92 for a Yamaha RX-V1800. I'm sure I could have tweaked the 92 and got it to sound better but I just didn't like the way it sounded when using its MCACC settings (see earlier post). However I wanted to use MCACC for a variety of reasons but I simply don't have the patience to spend the hours attempting to find the sound I want out of it.

Out of the box (after running both through EQs) I much prefer the Yamaha's sound and since it comes with an additional HDMI input and costs less it was an easy decision. Again I'm sure the Pioneer is a great receiver and I'm simply not smart enough to take advantage of what it has to offer.

I have the 94 did update no problems whatsoever. I do agree on the Sound from the 94 though and am thinking of going to dennon 4308ci or 3808ci. I did have a dennon 4806ci and wanted the audio decoding in the receiver. I like that not so much the Macc. I liked the Audissey in the Dennon better. I do like some thx processing on basic dd and dts though.

Do you know if anyone has contacted Pioneer concerning this? I spoke with their customer service today and the person I spoke with had not heard of this issue. She told me that she would send the information to engineering and try to get back to me, but would not give me a timeframe.

I agree that it is the AVR due to Denon and Onkyo fixing the problem with their receivers via firmware updates.

Anyone played "Faceoff" with Toshiba A35? Dolby works great but as soon as I switch to "DTS 6.1", sounds keep playing but sound format Information on the 92 Receiver display panel shows "NOTHING". All other DTS discs (hddvd and bluray) works fine.
Any Idea?

In regards to Face/Off, my 92 shows it as DTS-HD Master even thought we know it isn't. Don't know why. But I am sure I am actually getting the DTS ES 6.1

I have to 2 questions for the 92 owners,
1. where do you get the update for the firmware?
2. I have a PS3 and the problem it doesnt seem to play songs when I am gaming, so what i was thinking was is there a way to setup the 92 so it still displays the video through HDMI but output the audio from ipod or the AUX connections in the front.
The PS3 is connected through HDMI to the receiver and HDMI to the TV.

How is Pioneer when it comes to firmware fixes and updates? I own the 91 and it's my first Pioneer home product I've owned.

This is the best receiver I've ever owned. Mated with the new Panasonic BD30 blu-ray player I finally can see DolbyTrueHD and DTS Master audio light up. The sound on this receiver is so full. Absolute incredible for movies. This has to be the first time that I am not fiddling with the volume because I can't hear the dialogue and then back down again when the loud action comes. I hear details across the front soundstage that I've never heard before. The MCAA calibration or whatever you call it did a great job with my small rectangle room. It cut down all the reverb and standing audio waves. The bass is much more present as well without being muddy. Very punchy. I'm so happy. Also don't have to use an hdmi switcher anymore

I called Pioneer and spoke to what seemed like a knowledgeable fella about my DD+ dropouts. I got the answer I was expecting..."we haven't had this issue reported to us before". After asking some questions like is the toshiba firmware up to date and things like that, he ended up taking my name and phone number. He made note of everything I told him and he said he would pass on the info to the engineers. If they had any questions, they would call me.
So, I would suggest anyone that is experiencing this issue with a Pio Elite AVR, to call 1-800-421-1404 and report it.

For anyone that is wondering what the heck I'm talking about...this is concerning the bitstream signal via HDMI of DD+ tracks from an A35 or XA2 HD DVD player. Some movies that are DD+ are incurring audio and/or video dropouts of 1-2 seconds when connected this way to a 1.3 AVR.

I called and heard the same answer. They gave me a case number and told me that they would get back to me. They would not give me a time frame, so I guess it is a wait and see scenario. Hopefully others will call and apply pressure for a firmware update.

I agree with your assessment. The sound on this receiver for movies is fantastic. And the placement of sounds across the front and rear soundstage is wonderful. I am now hearing the sound of something top right of center, for example, instead of in the center. Or you hear the helicopter that is off screen off to one side, instead or sort of in the middle. I just wish I could resolve the little technical issues I am having. But the sound is great, and the MACC did a great job for me also.

Can someone pm a website of an authorized dealer for the lowest price on this receiver?

Just an FYI, there are no internet dealers that are authorized. Just use Pioneer's Website to locate the nearest Authorized dealer. Ask them what their lowest price is on the receiver.

I received my XA2 tonight (updated to 2.7) and I'm getting constant dropouts with my Elite 91 at DD+. I will be calling Pioneer tomorrow morning.

I guess I'll just have to pass PCM in the meantime on DD+ tracks.

I haven't got it to work yet either, maybe Pioneer will put up some updated software. The utility I used said 2004.

Has anyone bought this receiver from an online dealer.
There are a few that offer it for $850-$900.
I called and they said the receiver is actual pioneer- brand new- it is cheaper because there is no warranty.

You are rolling the dice at those prices. I told him about those sites listed on pricegrabber.com for the same received and he did not recognized any of the sub 1k price companies and he considers himself well acquainted with internet websites. He is by the way, an official pioneer dealer. If something is wrong with the receiver, you may be screwed, if not, then you got a great deal. I just spoke with Robert at Value Electronics.com and I think I will pull the trigger on this receiver based on the great price offer. Give him a call. I have bought 2 hd dvd players in the past and had great prices and excellent customer service.

I can't seem to get Dolby TrueHD to light up on the front display of the 92. The disc I tested this with is 300. I selected TrueHD in the disc menu, and it shows up as TrueHD on the Yamaha 1800 that I am also demo'ing, but on the 92's display, it only shows up as Dolby Pro Logic. Has anybody had any problems like this on the 92 or 94?

I'm setting up my 92 today & I'm having a hell of a time displaying video. I have an A3, BD-P1400 & my new Comcast cable box in that order connected to HDMI 1, 2 & 3 IN.

Because I have an older Samsung & it doesn't an HDMI connection, I'm using Component, which is connected to COMP OUT on the 92 & COMP1 (IN) on the display.

I can confirm the connection between the 92 & the display because the Onscreen Display from the 92 appears on the Samsung, but I can't get HDMI 1, 2 or 3 to show up (A3, 1400 & Comcast Box are all turned on).

On Page 72 in the Manual, it says to press V PARAMETER to get into the video options on the 92, but I can't. The 92 reads "CANNOT SELECT" on HDMI 1, 2 & 3.

I was using the A35 and I had it on auto surround. I think it may be a problem with the A35 actually putting out the TrueHD signal when you select it in the menu (or the The 300 disc has this problem). I noticed that one time I had to restart the disc on the A35 to get it to work with the Yamaha receiver I am testing. I haven't yet tried it again with the 92, but will tomorrow.

EDIT: I tried it again with the 92 and got the TrueHD to appear on the display. Must have been something funky with the disc.

I picked up the 92 two days ago. Have it running and it sounds very nice. Hooked up my PS3 to it and when I try to watch a Blu-ray movie it will do the previews, and get to the menu, but when it comes time to play the actual move it will just hang and not start. Pressing Display on the Sony bluetooth remote will show it sitting at zero minutes and zero seconds. If I pull the HDMI cable out of the 92 and plug it directly in the TV (1 year old Samsung DLP) it will play just fine. Seems like HDCP is not happy.

PS3 firmware 2.0 - what's the secret I missed or is this a 2.0 glitch? Last I played a movie was on 1.94

I went a bought a disc to test with, Disney's 2nd Pirates release. It plays just as it should so I wonder if the disc I had was bad (Ultraviolet). I returned it to Netflix and will get another copy to see.

Have had the VSX-92 for about 2 weeks, I love it, have went all Pioneer Elite products, 60" plasma, BD-95FD Blu-Ray player.

This receiver replaces a Harman Kardon AVR347, I didn't realize how far HK is behind, like way behind. The Pioneer 92 sounds so much better, (blows away the HK) video is even better. This is a great receiver, also like the ease of setup, operation and the many functions available.

One minor complaint, there is no sp-a,sp-a-b,sp-b speaker button on the remote, only control is from the front of the unit. Also would like to see a separate zone remote and a A-Bus connection on the back of the unit, as most new home construction will wire Cat.5 for multi source audio and multi zone as well as security.

Has anyone tried the on screen display vol. ect. through HDMI AVR to TV or the GENRE through HDMI AVR to Blu-Ray, I have had no luck on either, and all products are Pioneer.

I bought a 92 this weekend and I could use some help from you geniuses. I have my 92connected to, among other components, a Toshiba HD-A20 (v2.5) via HDMI and no matter what I try I cannot get anything but PCM or PCM 96 KHz. I've combed through my manuals and in the Toshiba manual it clearly states that it will only send PCM through HDMI but I was expecting some indication on the receiver of a DD+ or DTS signal. Should I see some indication of a DD or DTS signal?

Just placed my order for this receiver yesterday from Robert with Value Electronics.com at a great price. I should have by Wednesday so, I will have plenty of time to set-it up and play with it over Thanksgiving. I just sold my PS3 and will be ordering the Pioneer elite bdp-95fd to compliment this receiver tomorrow. These will be my x-mas presents from myself to myself.

For all of you previous owners of the 82 I have a few questions:

1. What was the firmware upgrade for on the 82?

2. Is the 92 just that much better? I know it offers 1.3 HDMI and 1080p upscaling, but I am not completely sold on 1.3. As far as the 1080p, my projector is only 720p, so it is a moot point.

3. I know its been asked, but has anyone had any lip sync issues with either the 82 or the 92?

I have the 54 and have been very happy with it. I have been considering the 705 and 805 from Onkyo, but I am worried about the lip sync issues. Any thoughts?
