PS3 Simultaneous Audio Out?

My PS3 serves both my main TV via optical audio and my bedroom TV via the analog out on the Sony component video "adaptor" cable.

How do I get both audio outputs active at the same time?

TIA!

Unfortunately, you can't. And before everyone runs in here saying that you should just route the audio through a receiver, that isn't an ideal solution (at least for me). It's one of the PS3s major shortcomings, imho.

wrong forum dude, this is for blu-ray players, not gaming machines

Search probably would have found an answer. Anyway, this is why we have an appropriately titled "One-and-Only PS3 as Blu-Ray Player" thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=650544

I'm not sure why it can't do both. My PS2 did both just fine, and any DVD player does both without issue. No matter what you set the HDMI and Optical output to, the analog should always work.

I wish that it would bo HDMI 2 channel and optical 5.1 at the same time.

Is it a software or hardware issue? I was hoping a later software release would enable simultaneous output.

BTW, Gary, this is in reference to the PS3 as a BluRay player. Grommet, you are correct about the search function. I just couldn't find any reference to my specific question.

Thanks!

I agree.

Why so? That's an interesting request, and I'm curious why that's something you'd want.

I have an HDMI tv but not a HDMI receiver. I would like to be able to listen to the movie via optical on my receiver but at night turn off the receiver and use my tv speakers. It is possible to do this now but it requires changing the settings every time which isnt practicle.

Same here. When I watch a movie, I have the sound though the 5.1 system via optical out. When I'm not home and the wife/kids want to watch a movie, it is easier for them you just pop it in and listen though the 2 ch sound from the display via HDMI. I was able to do this with stand alone DVD players. Not a huge issue, but a convenience thing.

I do the same exact thing. I just wish the ps3 had a sleep turn off function. So I could pop in a movie and fall asleep. Normally, I listen in 5.1 via my amp. But having the option is nice. My 360 can do it. I think the ps3 should be able to as well. And give me a sleep timer and auto shut off after download while your at it.

Yep, that makes sense. I don't have HDMI anything, but I'm in the same boat wanting the analog out to my TV while having the optical to the receiver. I also find having to change the setup constantly quite annoying.
