There's not much information on Amazon or anywhere else I could find, except it lists 2 discs and a runtime of 145 minutes instead of 134 minutes on the original Blu-ray release, and a 1.77 aspect ratio?

It's a repackaging of the current Blu-ray but they have added the DVD version as well. The Blu will be exactly the same as the current version (145 minutes, DD, etc.). You can get the single Blu-ray version now on closeout at Best Buy for $7.99.

It appears you're correct. It's now listed as a Blu-ray/DVD bundle at Amazon with a price of $9.99. Amazon also has the Blu-ray only version for $7.99.

Despite The Wild Bunch BD's acknowledged technical limitations, I'm glad I bought it. At a price of less than $10, it was the bargain of the century for one of the all time great western films.

I suspect that if the Blu-ray were released today it would be totally panned. Anyone else gone back to this recently and had the same reaction?

Pretty much agree with this assessment. Picked this up recently in a 3-pack (with How the West Was Won: which looks fantastic, and The Searchers: less fantastic), and the film has a fairly bad case of "clay-face". Color is rather degraded and monchromatic and sort of muddy-looking. Grain and fine detail are pretty smoothed-over (ie DNR'd), and there's fairly noticeable ringing on high contrast edges, and along the top and bottom edges of the frame.

The DNR is the least of this transfer's problems. It's too BROWN and doesn't represent at all the correct color. This and The Searchers need new transfers supervised by people who understand what these films should look like.
