Does anyone know if these movies will come in their own case? I don't like the way the DVD set comes in and I want individual blu boxes.

I'm just glad that Warner is trying to play to each format's strength instead of a dumbed down version that easily works on both. Huzzah!

This box set looks cool and all, but what happens when 6 and 7 come out? Then the entire point of a fancy box set is moot.

I'm planning to buy the films individually. They should be the same either way, right?

Anybody get this message from WB? How can the item be backordered if it has not come out yet. If this ships in 30 days I would still get it before the launch date. I received this email on 18 Oct.

Thank you for your recent order. The items listed below have not shipped and are currently on back order:

QTY Item
1 Harry Potter 1-5 Limited Edition Giftset (BD)
Blu-Ray

We expect to ship within the next thirty (30) days. It is quite possible that we could ship earlier.

Please be assured that your credit card has not been charged for these unshipped items.

If you wish to cancel your order please contact our Customer Service Department at (800)364-6928, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 12:00 Midnight (EST), or send an email to whvcustserv@emsi.echomail.com.

I believe that's a "form" email that went to everybody who still had any video orders remaining unfilled - even pre-orders.

That's exactly what I'm concerned about. They should have two extra slots to slide in the boxes for 6 and 7.

Maybe you'll be able to sign up for a new box by mail, like the LOTR box New Line provided.

Film 5 is PCM 5.1, but are there any news on the audio specs on film 1-4?

If all the movies have Chinese subs I'm gonna sell my set for sure. I can probably get 3 times what I paid for it if there still aren't many releases here in Taiwan.

There's animation here of the box set opening and the contents flying out. Looks like the top lid might be deep enough to contain two extra movies. Either that, or some contents can definitely be removed to make room.

Maximum sustained bandwidth on Blu-ray (audio + video) = 48.0 Mbps

This leaves a nice, healthy 35-36Mbps of bitrate available to the video.

Compare against the HD DVD version, which sports TrueHD (~3Mbps) plus 3 DD+ tracks, probably at 1.5Mbps each, and we're looking at a total audio cut of 6.5Mbps. The HD DVD also has an IME track, which cuts even more into the bitrate, pushing the overall available bitrate down from 30Mbps max to probably something in the vicinity of 18-20Mbps for the video.

Why would the bandwidth matter on all 13 audio tracks? You only listen to one at a time.

So I've read this entire thread and just wanna get something straight. Lossless audio is PCM 5.1? I'm really new to this HD stuff. Like May 07' new.
For those worried that the video encode will be poor because they are limited to HD DVD bandwidth:

I own GoF on HD DVD and the video looks wonderful. It's a very good encode with rich colors and excellent black levels. Mind you, the last time I looked at it was on an HD-A1 at 1080i, so I can pop it in on my A30 and check it at 1080p if you like, but I noticed no obvious artifacting. I was looking very hard at some of the very bandwidth-intensive shots in the Ireland-Bulgaria Quiddich match and the crowd shots remained sharp and clear throughout.

In short: if they use the same care on the encode that they did with GoF, you'll get a great picture.

Technically, no, as 5.1 PCM is technically just sending a 5.1 PCM signal-an uncompressed signal that could have come from a lossy or lossless encode.

However, in this context, it's reasonable to assume that they're referring to an audio track that hasn't been compressed at all and is encoded on the disc as a 5.1 PCM track-which (sans dialnorm and whatnot) is what a lossless encode should decode to.

Old thread.

Does anybody know how/where to get Half Blood Prince to add to this limited edition gift set?

Thanks
