I know this is a jab at Curt, But I've moved it before this:

Their mod sets have worked great and I have had less problems with them compared to the mod guy this article recommends. We used to get them before we started our Mod Line

Ok ,then you too join in. get the pattern and let us know when you're ready. And when that day comes, I'll bring a set of boards to you, or you can come here. We'll do a mini meet and Shootout. That way many can see what's what. And while you're at it. Get a set of boards from High Rez. and have them there. That would make more sense.....and do note that I have yet to say that my mods are better than either of yours. I'll rather let them do that part for themselves.

Cool, you're close by..

Oh and btw, what I'm doing can be confirmed and verified to be a REAL re-design of the boards by the chief engineer at VDC..

Stop blowing smoke. The test (smpte pattern) is on the table. It is our reference for bandwidth performance. And since my work has already been verified soooo many times to do well in that area, it's now your turn - Batter UP!!!!

OK - I know that Mike Parker takes a lot of time upgrading electronics, swapping parts and re-designing circuits. Then there's a lot of testing and quality control. I have seen the results of his work and they really do speak for themelves. Mike (without giving away his intellectual property) has quanitifed what he does quite well.

As an impartial person who is about to buy some mods, I want to know what HiRes's mods are better. Exactly what changes are made. Gary, I asked you this in a PM and you gave me some answers and then told me that it sounded like sales talk. No offense, but it did. You didn't give me any reason to buy your mods.

Mike will say "I upgrade op amp A and use a CRO to align the tachyon discrete phase looper" (yes, its just an example!)

He has given me a complete list of exactly what he does and its almost a page long!

Where's your list Gary? I don't expect you to divulge trade secrets, but without specifics all I'm hearing sounds like an audio salesman trying to justify reasons to buy expensive power cables. (please I don't mean that offensively)

As a person who is about to buy a set of mods, tell me what you do that is so much better than Mike's mods.

Cheers

Oh and Greg, when you're ready. There's no need for you to bring a VIM. I have one of your VIM's already..

Can I get your permission to post a picture of it next to one of mine?

It has some black stuff on some of the components, so you shouldn't have a problem with the photo session.

I think a shoot out would be awesome and i am willing to hold it at my place up here in western NY. And to have an incentive to come up here I will BUY the mods from the the won who is declared the winner.
I have an unmodded marquee 8000. this is what a lot of people have and i think would benefit most form the mods. Right now its on a 12 foot screen, this might be a bit large but it would definitely show what these mods can do for a super lowly Marquee 8000 being pushed to the limit. A lumagen HDQ scaler and High deff sat and LG multi blue player all we need is a HTPC if a 1080p72hz source is needed. and my room is 16x30 large enough for at least 20 people or mare at a time.

Keep 1920x1080P on the table, but get a HTPC that can do native 1080P @ 72hz with either Blu-ray or HD-DVD, and I'll start packing..

All right jimmy boy! maybe we can see which projector the mods will make the most noticible improvement to . I think obviously the 8xxx since it is not as new as the 9500lc's but jim i have two 8 inch marquees i wantto stack so now i guess i have to buy two sets but i'd rather just do a one pj shoot out.

Dude, these guys jumped in here with such confidence, that maybe we should raise the bar, and have it so that the looser buys you the second set of mods from the winner..

No problem, we're have the looser pay to cover the other things that would enhance your Marquee. But it'll only cover up to the cost of a set of mods.

Gary

Gary, we've talked at least 3 X this year about getting you to ship me some mounts. I've emailed and called, but I never got an invoice or a call. I'm not the only one waiting for mounts. As I said, I've got nothing against you at all, I was just stating a fact earlier in this thread.

I read my post way back, the 'trust' word was incorrect and out of line, my bad and apologies to Gary.

Cheers!

Yo Scott (tse)! I hope you're peeping out of your humble abode in your lab at VDC. I hope you're watching this. I understand that the High Rez mods were designed by several of their engineers. And the same with Greg's. I want you to keep your eyes on this. This is important to me because you know I'm not an engineer, I only have your help in my work to take the mods to this last level. So let's see If I can make my trip down there worth while and make you proud..

We allready had a electrohome mod shoot out.

One year ago. Results were both made good improvements.

I am not going to say which is better.

I will say I have made many revisions since that one for electrohome including my new chips I am using and with Barco we are making great & vast improvements. IF you have a mod set that is 1 year old then it wont compair to what we have now.

We now can make a 909 look poor next to a 1209 with the mods.

I am working on a even newer HDMI card and I have a very speical card for the 909.

You didn't start nuthin. This is just a continuation of a pissing contest from two years ago And you thought I forgot

If we're going to have a fantasy shoot-out, we'll put MP and hi rez on one side and my hot-rodded 4600HD on the other

Ok, so this means you're not up to a Shootout...well, at least one that is known about or was bought to my attention, or may even have my work involved........I really want to get this over with.

Is looser something like diaria?
OK .. I have to say this - if we're going to have a shootout, no-one is backing out OK?

So far we have Gary, (Greg are you in or out?) and Mike

One of the criteria is modding a stock 8500 (an lc + ultra? or just lc or no lc?) to display 1080P/72

What other criteria do we want?
Ten bucks and my left one says, just like last time this won't happen.

OK, I could use that 10 bucks chip.., so I'll make things easier for my opponents (whichever one, but hopefully both).

Let's modify Athanasios offer to host this shootout at his place, and lets make it so that Athanasios also becomes a winner by not having to pay for the winning mods.

Since Athanasios may be mid point between me and High Rez, and that's a lot closer than Gary's offer to Oliver here:

And check this out. I doubt Greg lives 25 miles away.......

So no Chip. This is the last time I'm going to let both High Rez and Greg jump in a thread and attack what I'm doing and get away with it. They keep claiming to have better (notice I've not said that, or anything negative against what they're doing), and puts out the BOLDEST challenges for a shootout, but for some reason I'm not getting the OK on this.

I think it'll also be a good thing to assemble a small judging panel to look at some other things workmanship, soldering, appearance and the patterns test, that will also be included in this SHOOTOUT.

And to save me the trip up that way, I'll offer a free mod upgrade to anyone that can persuade both Greg and Gary to have the Shootout here on my 8500. Or let's see if we can move it to Mark Haflich's and put it on his 9500 Ultra. That way High Rez can send their boards to their partner Greg, because he's in this area. And If this happens here, I'll still look out for Athanasios, and give him a mod upgrade at half price.

I need that 10 bucks Chip..

Well said Mike you re true gentelman. Too bad there are not more people like you in the world.

With in the next few weeks i will attempt to do a side by side stack with my 8000 and my suposed referance 8, I say suposed because i had a clm problem and that clm was older than what i hear PSI was using so i'm not 100% sure this is a full and complete Ref 8.Saying that i will still give it a shot if not i'll just put up the projector wich looks best and prepare the theater for the shoot out if it ever happens.

I would like to get a non biased person on the forum to volunteer to run the shootout. Anyone who offers mods should be invited to come. It needs to be judged on all of the criteria Image Quality, Construction Quality, Price what ever makes sense. The test needs to be a blind test with out Bias. We should each bring a moded projector and be running the same source from a distribution amp. One way to make this happen is to stop buying mods till it happens!

Mike I know you are a good guy you do do a lot for the forum. I am not attacking you in any way shape or form. It is that you claim to have the best mod and you have a lot to friends that say you do, you may or may not but we will never know if we do no shoot it out.

Gary
I am getting out of the CRT arena. Unfortunately my HT is set up for only one big mother FP CRT. A blind shootout wouldn't be possible. Almost any where else too. I think Hi-Rez has such a facility. To set things up right, calibrate etc would take multiple multiple days and inordinate resources. Without this, whatever the results they will be challenged as meaningless. No manufacturer in their right mind, except Hi-Rez, if it were done in their facility, could afford to do this. Shipping epenses, travel, just the sheer time involved, there are good reaons why this hasn't be done and to me will never be done.

And suppose it were done. What? The winner might sell a couple more to the bottom feeders that remain in this sport?
