DTS-MA titles

Thread Starter
Are there any domestic HD-DVD titles that feature DTS-MA soundtracks? Are there any foreign titles not available in the US with DTS-MA soundtracks?

Is the only way to hear DTS-MA currently to have an HDMI 1.3 receiver/prepro and a XA2 player with the latest firmware?

I believe Pat Metheny Group HDDVD has DTS-MA (as well as PCM). Though i've since sold my disc so check before you buy.

There are no domestic titles from a major Hollywood studio that use DTS-MA on HD DVD. There are a lot of DTS-MA titles from Studio Canal in Europe which are region free and can be imported.

The XA2 with the latest firmware, and the upcomming A35 support advanced codecs through bitstream pass thru to a received that can decode it such as the Onkyo 805..

Edit: Corrected models capable of bitstream passthru

A20? A30 support for bit stream!?! I think that is wrong. Do you have any sources for this information? From what I know the XA2 will be getting this support in the NEXT update. And the A35 will have it out of the box. But I don't think the A20 or the A30 will not have support for bitstreaming.

HD DVD do not need bitstream. 99% of movies in HD DVD uses Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD, and all HD DVD players decodes those internally.

Only Blu-ray is in trouble: many BD titles use DTS-HD and DTS-HD MA, and almost no player decodes them internally because DTS wants to make money from the receivers royalties. But for HD DVD is not a problem. Dolby rules here.

That's not accurate for me, at least not beyond the next few weeks until the XA2 firmware hits that enables bitstreaming over hdmi 1.3 (I want to decode the Studio Canal discs). I believe some folks around here have seen the player-to-reciever processing demo'ed and working at CEDIA. The information has already been discussed in posts above anyhow.

Pioneer is prepping a player that allows bitstreaming of DTS-MA and all other hi-res audio formats that's due in Q4. It has also been widely discussed that players are forthcoming that will support DTS-MA.

Studio Canal titles have DTS-MA and few german titles.

I have Terminator 2, Total Recall, Enemy at the Gates, Rambo 2 and Rambo 3.

All are DTS-HD MA and I can't wait for my XA2 to let me hear them.

The Brotherhood of the Wolf has DTS-HD MA. It's a Studio Canal import. I believe the UK and French versions are identical.

http://www.xploitedcinema.com

They carry a large number of imports. They carry the french version, it does not have any forced subtitiles, and you can select English for the menu language. Soundtrack is French DTS-MA and English subtitles are included.

Welcome to the forums elricofmelnibone. HD DVD's are region free.

I'd try, and highly recommend, Xploited Cinema for import titles. Most orders are shipped same day and the service is first rate.

EDIT: Oops didn’t see zalahmar’s post.

I appologize, the A35 and XA2 are the only ones that handle bitstream, I had a brain fart and confused 1080p/24Hz capabilities with bitstream capabilities.

I've also used Xploited Cinema for several Import purchases and the service was terrific.

But also for consideration, EzyDVD.au is having a "Two HD DVD for $50 sale that's a pretty good deal, and they have the UK versions of some of the Studio Canal releases with DTS-HD MA: Rambo 1-3, Total Recall, Terminator 2, etc.

The 2 for $50 is Australian Dollars and include an 8.5% GST Tax. With the currency conversion, tax removal & shipping, it works out to around US$23 each.
