Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection - Delayed!!

Crap!!!! This game was supposed to be released on October 2 but has now been delayed until March 2008. I pre-ordered this from Amazon a few weeks ago and was getting excited about it and now I have to wait another 6 months!

Not sure how many people here like those old pinball games but I have been dying to get my hands on one of the Funhouse pinball games that I was addicted to my freshman year of college (back in 1991). Since a machine in good condition runs well over $2 grand, I was more than thrilled when I saw this game for the Wii that would include Funhouse as well as other top notch games from the old days.

I guess I'll stick to mastering Carnival Games for now and potentially pick up one of the boxing games when they are released.

Not sure if anyone here was waiting for this game but it came out this week and is actually a great game! My funhouse addiction is back as well as new addictions for several of the other classic pinball games that are included.

Cool I'm always up for a good game of pinball. I wonder if there are any reviews up anywhere. BTW 1991 wasn't that long ago. I finished college in 91.

I left a personal review on Amazon but it hasn't been posted yet. I do hope some site posts a formal review of it soon so I can read about some of the hidden aspects and/or capabilities I haven't tried yet.

1991 may not have been that long ago but one of the interns that worked for my company last year was born in 1988 so I was reminded of my true age everyday! I bet she has no idea what a pinball machine looks like!
I have to remember that I am not as young as I fell most days. I was born in 1968 and will be 40 this summer. I will probably be a gamer as long as I can do it. As far as the intern goes well I would be very suprised if she knew what a good 25 cent pinball game was like.

I'll look for your review.

I was in college in the late 80s. The pinball we played then was Hot Doggin' (ski theme). Now I have a working Williams Sorcerer machine in my house. I looked it up and Sorcerer is one of the games in this collection. Normally video pinball wouldn't apeal to me. But now you got me curious.

The game is graphically nasty. They used the largest pixel mode available on the Wii, a la NBA Live 08, Raving Rabbits 2, etc. Its lower than No More Heroes.

I'm most certain now that with screenscrolling, the developers have no other alternative in terms of being able to process it. The Wii reminds me of the Commodore 64 where you lose half the resolution in order to scroll.

The pinball game otherwise has the classic Williams machines and one that really looks old with the flippers spread a mile apart.

I'd say apart from the graphics, the game is ok but only if you're a hardcore pinball player. Its hard to see the table at times because of the jags.

Its about a 6, not enough of a 7 or 8 to be a keeper.

I guess I ordered too soon, oh well, it was cheap!

If you're a pinball fan, I can't see why that was too bad of a purchase.

Dream Pinball 3D looks more to my liking and reminds me of Pinball FX on the 360.

Not sure where the negative feedback is coming from. First, no WII game is going to blow us away from a graphics standpoint. With that said, I don't see anything wrong with the graphics of this game. If anything, the tables seem to be replicated perfectly from their originals and the physics are the best I've ever played on a video pinball game.

This type of game is why I bought a WII. If I want to play a hardcore game with blow me away graphics, I'll use my PS3.

Take it for what it's worth but if you are looking for an easy way to play some of the best pinball games of the past, this is it.....unless you want to drop thousands of dollars and take up several rooms in your house!

My only gripe with the game so far is no Adams Family which is what replaced Funhouse in my college dorm my sophomore year. Another game I became addicted to!

I'm sure it could have been done better on the Wii. Like I said, if you like pinball, its not a bad purchase.

I got it, so far a really fun game! I have it hooked up to a regular CRT TV right now so looks fine. Once I get it hooked up to an HD Plasma it will probably show the flaws, but hopefully I can get by that and just enjoy the game.

a tangent of this topic, but if you have a Wii, you should DL two of the greatest pinball games of all time, Alien Crush and Devils Crush for the TG16.

I can remember being like 7 when my old man bought a TG16 just to play these games, he was a pinball freak.

I just got a Wii and was a big pinball player back in the day. I used to play this one at the skating rink calked Joker Poker and it was my favorite. This one mall arcade had it and I would go there all the time just to play it. I even searched online for it to see if you could buy which I wasn't going to but it didn't come up. I was just curious about it though. So does pinball use the wii mote. I have 2 of those an2 of the numchuck things. I may get the pinball cause I loved pinball. I have a 40 inch LCD and i know the wii isn't like X-box or PS3 but I have no kids I bought the Wii for myself and it's alot of fun.. I jusy have only played with it once so far and don't know all about it yet. Rose

IGN gave it an 8/10.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/859/859821p1.html

8.0 Presentation
Ten tables accurately represented, with achievements to shoot for and speedy loadtimes. The front end could use a tweak and remove some of the "dummy machines" instead of teasing what's not there.
8.0 Graphics
Even at 480p these machines look photorealistic. Fast and smooth framerate during gameplay with excellent cameras and a variety of positions.
8.0 Sound
The old-school sounds of the machines are pulled off well. The original "rockin' 80s" soundtrack's a bit corny, but that can be turned off.
8.5 Gameplay
You can't beat the fun and feel of real pinball, but this game comes extremely close.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
It's a casual experience with some great replay value, especially in its multiplayer hotseat mode for high score tournament competitions.
8.0
Impressive OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Ok I think I am going to order this game. I loved pinball back in the day. When I went to the Arcade I played 3 or 4 games my favorite being Centipede. I loved one called Q-Bert and Pacman and Ms. Pacman of course and even Donkey Kong and Dig Dug. I also had an Atari 2600 which shows my age. I'l check out Amazon cause I may buy another game also. Thanks, Rose

Edit: Ok I ordered the pinball and the game party with darts and skiball and airhockey. I need to quit buying games LOL!! I was going to do free shipping but it said 5-9 days so I did the standard only 5 something more to ship 3-5 days. I know I will love the pinball.

Well I saw ign gave it a good score, but if I am not misunderstanding, it uses zero mnotion controls and I don't udnerstand why games keep being made for a motion control system and then don't even utilize them. I wouldn't rate any game high for Wii which doesn't use motions and if I''m not mistaken even SSB doesn't use them????
If anything, too many Wii games have motion controls tacked on when it's not appropriate. It should only be done when it adds to a game. The Wii has traditional control schemes readily available, they should be used when it's beneficial to the game, instead of being crippled with motion controls like many Wii titles have .

And for the record, this game has motion controls, you move the controller to nudge the table. I can't imagine why someone would want the motion controls be used to control the flippers.
Sorry Basher, but I have to agree completely with Leo on this one. I don't see how motion control could improve gameplay.

After reading the good reviews here I will be renting this game soon. I remember having a blast playing the pinball game for the NES with my Dad and uncle so I should enjoy this one.
I also agree.

Its clear that several games have attempted to use motion controls and failed. This, coupled with several other deficiencies of the system, have left myself and other Wii gamers a little bitter, as we have a lack of games to chose from in many categories(notice i didnt say a lack of good games period. There are several great games to keep me busy, but that doesnt mean the range of choice is all that varied).

I would much rather a game with solid controls using wavebird or classic controller than some weakly implemented motion control scheme. Nintendo, to their credit, has been great at recognizing this. SSBB offers many options for control, as does the upcoming Kart.

The Wii is not a "Motion Control System" as mentioned, at best it is "motion enhanced". The sooner people realize this, the sooner we can have some great standard controlling games for the Wii.
Whole point of the Wii "is" the motion controls. The games that have it taked on wouldn't have been best without them, they would have been best if the developers knew what they were doing.

With this game I don't really know what motion controls could help it, but a lot of games are lacking them which I ahve no desire to play . Playing any game without motion controls on Wii is just the same as playing a gamecube game and thus can't be considered even close to current gen.

Just to clarify the motion control issue (as Leo mentioned above)....this game DOES use some motion with the controller and nunchuck. If you want to tilt the machine (or rock it to manipulate the ball), you shake the two controllers. It works pretty well.

Any other motion in this game would make it unrealistic to real pinball.

While that may be true, not all game need motion controls. You are the first person I've ever seen complain about the lack of motion of controls in a game. Most everyone else bitches because most games don't give you the option for standard controls.

No, it isn't.

The whole point of the Wii is to play games(and preferably to enjoy the experience). I dont think any developer should be looking at motion control as a necessity, often the best way to make a game enjoyable is to keep tried and true controlling schemes.

A good example is the DS, the point of which is NOT touch controls. The stylus certainly fits certain games, and when implemented well, is a great tool. However, some of the best, most enjoyable games have a standard controller layout (sonic games, newSMB, KartDS, UltimateMK contra4). The fact that they have refined stylus controls to work VERY well is excellent, but the fact still remains that this is not the 'point' of the system.

During the DS' first year and a half - developers forced touchscreen controls, which is the same thing that we are seeing on the Wii. It's not necessary and should only be used if it will enhance the gameplay, not be a detriment.

Which further strengthens the analogy. Exactly.
