Any other notes of comparison against the two besides the dark areas?
I have to agree with Randy concerning the affects of the anti-glare screen on the over all picture quality. I was very used to the picture from my z700u and noticed a BIG difference between the two when I switched from one to the other. I havent viewed my 700u in over a week, so I have instead gotten used to the picture of the z77u, which by no means is a bad picture at all, just not quite as nice as the z700u. If I instead starting using the 700u again I would no doubt have the same impression. I can very much notice an LCD like affect on the picture.
As far as the black crush issue goes it is pretty significant on my set as compared the 700u. Not sure how Panasonic got the new 10000:1 c/r out of this set but in my opinion it has come at the expense of shadow details though it very could be operator error as I havent done a great deal of tweaking to it yet
I am curious if this has anything to do with the properties of the anti-glare screen.
I am by no means trying to say that the pz77u is not a good television, it is an excellent choice and certainly blows any LCDs out of the water. It really boils down to the viewing environment in which your plasma will be placed in.
