If you allow me to play the devil's advocate a bit here.
The SMS-1 display is quite smoothed. You can't identify the modal frequencies from the smoothed display. You can't exactly match the modal frequencies when you make manual adjustments. (Although you can do much better than the automatic mode, which AFAIK does not even try to find the right peaks.) So, by not hitting the right frequencies, you will actually increase ringing instead of reducing it. And you won't even notice it from the display, because there is no decay plot.
Unless you use a PC with REW with it (but then there are cheaper alternatives).
On the other hand, having multiple settings can be an actual advantage.
