Load of boloney. What "full benefits"? 1080p is twice as many pixels and it shows immidiately as soon as you got a good source and as soon as you hook up a media PC or a game console.
Also, people who equate line resolution of a human eye with a need are cracking me up. They do not understand the basics of signal processing - sampling rate may intorduce noise well below the maximum resolvable rate. That's why 96K sound is audibly better then the CD rate, even as your ear can not resolve the frequensies above 20K. Those HD"guru" punks are just justifying their plasma habits with some pseudo science mambo-jumbo. (I am not knocking on plasma, resolution is not the only thing)
Just look at any text (or other high frequency signal - sharp transitions in the case of 2D signal) on 720p vs 1080p - you will see the difference, even if it is not visible in movie content.
40" is fine - maybe you will need to crank up text size a bit if you want to browse web on it though. I am doing that on a 40" right now, but will go up to 46" (movies are on 50" plasma - sweet spot nowdays I would think)
