I don't think the PQ softness in certain scenes is anything except intentional by the show's director. It can't be FIOS or NBC or any of that stuff. It's an intended effect.

I'm going to guess the blond agent has bad skin so they soften up a bunch of scenes so people don't notice it's only when they do a close-up of her.

As a side note, my 8 year old son watched the show Monday and had this to say: "Oh, get I the show now. They have this geek guy and he keeps battling different smoking hot agents every week."

You're grooming your son well, Buc. He shows keen insight already in the science of babeology.

Rachel Bilson is cute but for sheer hotness of bod I have to go with "Sarah".

Of course I'll need to see Rachel in lingerie or at least a milkmaid outfit before making final determination.

I agree on both counts. Except Rachel and Yvonne should be in lingerie for the entirety of the episode.

I don't want to say too much because I suppose it is technically a spoiler. Feel free to PM me if you really want to know.

I just watched Ep #4 Chuck vs. the Wookie. I'm really enjoying this new series. Out of all of the new 1-hour shows, I find myself only watching Chuck and Reaper. I've also recorded the other NBC shows, Journeyman and Bionic Woman, but haven't found the interest to watch them.

I think the appeal of Chuck (and Reaper) is that it doesn't try to take itself so seriously. It's more "happy" (?) than shows like JMan or BW. And the eye-candy is nice, too. Does anyone know if Chuck was ordered as a full season or if NBC still has to order the rest of the season?

Eh, I always thought Bilson was cute but nothing outragous

Best episode so far. Chuck's character gets fleshed out nicely and more interestingly Morgan was not half as annoying as he has been in previous weeks. The comedy was dialed down but the show had some good energy thanks to the music and action scenes. Although I could have done without the editing cues from Burn Notice.

The Lo Pan thing had to be intentional. As soon as he came onscreen I said "It's Lo Pan!" At one point they even started echoing his Big Trouble dialog. Instead of "now I have two girls with green eyes" it was "now I have two american spies."

PQ as before, was absolutely atrocious. It was so bad I was trying to figure out if it was some kind of stylistic decision. The levels were so blown out it was impossible to miss.

I canceled my season pass because of this. Its sad to say but the PQ was so distracting I didn't enjoy the show enough.

Besides, I record HIMYM and Big Bang theory during the same hour, and with only 2 tuners I have to go upstairs to watch MNF.

Agree with everything said here. The PQ was just off badly last night.

That makes two of us.

IIRC... the first 6-7 episodes were already filmed before the pilot ep even aired on national TV, so maybe we'll see better PQ after the run of those episodes are over. Although the PQ is very "un-HD" it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the show. Last night's ep was the best yet. I liked the "sales contest" at Buy More and how the Nerd Herd guys cut Morgan no slack and I just love hot Asian high-kicking babes packing heat on crotch rockets- can't get much better than that!
Oh, and I'm for more face time for Chuck's sister (the gorgeous Sarah Lancaster) ... I could just look at her all day long, she makes Yvonne Strahovski look like yesterdays' laundry pile

Agree 100%, and I'm glad someone else besides me caught the BTiLC reference. It's always nice to see James Hong; he's one of those veteran character actors that you instantly recognize no matter what role he's playing.

And while I don't know how they can get her involved in the action sequences, I'd love to see Sarah Lancaster in some of Yvonne's spy outfits.

As mentioned above, the picture quality on the latest episode practically redefined the term "grainy", particularly right at the start of the show. Is NBC only reviewing their content on small SD monitors? I can't imagine that anyone could be confusing what they're broadcasting with what HDTV should look like, e.g. as supplied by HD.Net.
Return of Lo Pan! Hot Asian chick! Lots of bullets! What's not to like?? Well, they still need to get rid of that useless Morgan. (I almost gave up on this show but gave it another chance. Jury is still out, but it's better than the first two eps).

For anyone that hasn't seen Big Trouble in Little China, go get it. Great fun.
yeah that was some ugly-HD last night
I wouldn't qualify last night's episode as HD. It was pretty poor even for NBC.

After the last few episodes, is anyone else convinced this is an upconvert they're trying to pass off as HD?
It's HD. It just looks like it's shot on 16mm. It looks as soft as the O.C. and Veronica Mars but with more grain. When Chuck's white shirt looks overexposed and grainy, something must be wrong.

But then Alias was shot on 35mm and it had some of the grainiest scenes I've ever seen in HD.

Do we have proof it's being broadcast in HD, though, besides the ever-present NBC HD bug in the bottom-left corner? I'm sure it's well-documented that the series is shot in HD, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're broadcasting it in HD.

Usually this type of cinematography comes under the heading of "artistic license". I'm just not sure what look they are going for. Supernatural was going for a grainy washed out look for a while, but this season it is almost "colorful".

Unlike some others, I actually like the show. Chuck is kind of goofy the way Ed was.

Just look at any footage recycled from the pilot (the establishing shot outside of Chuck's apartment for example). Definitely HD.

If this were widescreen SD, you would not see this much grain! In fact it might look better.

Possibly. But whatever the case -- artistic license, upconvert, subpar source -- the less-than-stellar PQ (for HD, anyway) isn't enough to detract from how fun the show is.

I wish they'd make the quality more even though. There were some scenes at the restaurant that were incredibly clean, and the Buy More scenes don't look good to me with grain because they're supposed to have the soft clean look of Best Buy commericals.

This bugged me when UHD started showing episodes of the Equalizer from the 80's. Almost all of the on-location and night scenes looked absolutely incredible, yet the scenes shot on sets were terribly grainy. This makes no sense at all! The scenes shot on sets should look better, unless they were saving electricity by turning down the lights and underexposing.

Loved the episode, apart from the horrid direction during the action sequences. (How many times did we need the video to pause to see a punch or kick?) It just leeched out all of the energy of those scenes.

The Lo Pan reference was great!

I believe it was some type of 'homage', maybe to Enter the Dragon (is that the Bruce Lee movie they mentioned), but I am not sure. It has been a very long time since I've seen a Bruce Lee movie...

Love the show and the eye candy. Hate the PQ. This weeks episode of NCIS was also just as bad. What are these networks doing to HD??

I hope the HD is really sharp tonight.....
From Zap2it.com... Dear fellow "Star Wars" geeks: On tonight's "Chuck" Halloween episode, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) dresses up in Princess Leia's metal bikini. See you there.
