That's pretty much what I was getting at... On most shows all we would get is a character like Casey being an ass...
But on Chuck, and largely due to how Adam Baldwin is good at being an ass with redeeming qualities... even when Casey is being an ass, you get a glimmer of humanity in him.
I think it took the better part of all 3 seasons before Casey stopped automatically attributing idiocy=Chuck... and now he pretty much relates to Chuck as a respected peer.
Chuck had to do a lot, actually, in terms of saving the free world several times over in order to get Casey fully on his side... I expect Morgan is heading down that path slowly but surely.
Casey has lots of military training and guile... Sarah has lots of CIA training + her life growing up on the run... and Chuck was always smart, just a bit derailed + he has the Intersect.
Morgan is essentially you and me... he is the regular Joe who knows super-cool people. He isn't really an idiot, but in their world he can appear to be one. He has no special skills or training... but he's still every bit as willing to throw himself on the grenade to save friends, family, and country.
That's what inevitably wins Casey over at the end of the day because he is capable of recognizing that strength of character and heroism. You could almost argue that Morgan is the most heroic character on the show because he ends up accomplishing more proportionally with his limited skills than the trained heroes do.
But enough of the Morgan fan parade
