If you bought a projector today, what is the maximum you would spend ?

Choose your option

Note, if you are willing to spend up to $2000 (or any of the round prices I wrote), choose "less than $2000", since no projector is sold for a round price, always a buck less, or at least a cent...

Is this suppose to be a poll?

In this case, chose "less than $2000".

Yeah it really all depends on what your buying and what your looking for.. I bought the Acer PH530 for $600 and with the PQ i'm getting I can't imagine why I need to spend more..

No doubt, price/performance wise it is VERY hard to beat the dirt-cheap 720p DLP units, if you are not sensitive to the DLP anomalies.

I don't think its intended to analyze the technology in a "what if" situation, if you were buying today, what would you spend...this question doesn't care if its 720/1080, DLP/LCD, just simply, if you were buying this minute how much would you spend.

Anyways, my cap budget is 2k, and i selected accordingly.

Exactly.

I am also an Acer owner and for 600 bucks the Acer can't be beat.
And it will do just fine until the other higher end units drop in price since the 1080p PJs are mass produced the price will come down for sure.

This question asks us how much money we have to blow for a cool toy. Or a replacement. And the $3000+ guys are never gonna see the thread!! Science at rest.

I voted for "All of the Above".

Yes, I own a PJ and love it.

I'll spend up to 2k for a 1080p LCD unit with 1500 lumens.
I just spent 1200 (my budget was 1500 max, taxes included) and am very happy with my choice. I won't be upgrading unless the pj breaks down or I'm through my second bulb (which I anticipate to be about 3.5 to 4 years from now, based on current usage and anticipated bulb life).

How much would u willing to spend on a new car?

That is a very open-ended question.

If I was in the market for a projector and most of my viewing was Standard DVD and a little Hdtv then I would spend $500 for a good video processing 480 Pj like the infocus In72/4805 .

But if I was going to start watching more HDTV AND hd dvd's along with standard dvd's I would search the web for yesterdays 720 pj .( to me 1080 isn't all that much of a difference when compared by the human eye .( specially if your watching moving images like sports and what not )

My goal would be to spend time researching yesterdays high priced projectors with proven excellent performance and take advantage of these companies that spent big money on research and development. Then I would shop around for these discontinued models for the best deal on a Pj that fits my specific theaters needs.ist sort of like buying a Mercedes Benz for the same price as a honda civic. They both get you to the store just built diffrently.

For instance the long throw Sharpe Sharp XV-Z12000MK2 was a $10,000 dark chip 3 Projector that weigh something like 25lbs.
It is a excellent Proven Pj and built to last .I had to pass on this model do to my need for a 120 inch screen. Basically the lumen just were not there and it was a long throw.
But for all you guys that grabbed on off ( buy ) for a RIDICULOUS price of $1339 my hats off to you .nice work boys.
The next pj To keep your eyes on is the Marantz VP4001 .

This Pj is only like 9 pounds but it has excellent optics and a great 2+chip not to mention dead on color right out of the box. ( from what I have read )
It's a short throw pj but Very bright. What I like about it is it adjustable iris.
Basically if you wanted to watch football during the day with lights on you could open the iris all the way and use the 1200 lumens and at night you could close the iris to take advantage of the deep black that make this pj shine like 3d.

This Marantz pv4001 for secondact $1249 is probably one of the best all around deal on the market right now for the money FOR all its feature .But what really seals the deal is the THREE year factory warrantee.

so to answer you question I would have to say $1249 ( and that better include shipping).

Interesting results so far.

I've expected to find very few people in this forum who will be interested in projectors above $2500, but it seems 25% are interested.

I also thought the biggest category will be less than $1000, but it's not.

I think most, if not all (I am focus on DLP) under $1000 PJ suffer from lack of inky blacks. I will always spend a few more hundred just to get this because all PJs I have seen with grey blacks might as well be in a boardroom and not a HT. On the other hand, some people do not have total light control, and in this case it will be difficult to get inky blacks anyway. That's really where the HD1000U, HC1500 will shine.
