No, unfortunately it is not available online.

I was going to make some joke suggestions, like:

1. Place a large mirror across the street and have your neighbor turn up the volume;

2. run a long cable to your neighbor's house;

3. buy one of those wireless video transmitter/receiver devices and install at your neighbor's house;

4. climb the telephone pole and...

etc., etc., etc.

It really is troubling that people such as yourself, for whom are the very reason that CATV systems were developed in the first place, are losing reception to that very institution that the American Television industry was known for: localized programming! And why, because now you have to pay to receive what 80% of your neighbors can receive FOR FREE!

Broadcasters have forgotten that the airwaves are a PUBLIC TRUST - they were given use of these frequencies FOR FREE in return TO SERVE THE PUBLIC INTEREST! IT IS JUST WRONG!

If I could only figure out how to stream from my Hauppauge HDPVR 1212; it has that capability...

DirecTV Files FCC Complaint Against Tribune

Says Creditors Blocked Retrans Deal

By Mike Farrell

DirecTV filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission Monday (4/2/12), claiming Tribune Co. failed to negotiate in good faith after creditors of the broadcaster blocked what the satellite giant thought was a completed retransmission consent agreement.

Tribune pulled its 23 broadcast stations across the country from DirecTV on March 31. The blackout affects about 5 million DirecTV customers in large markets like Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

"Two days prior to expiration of the existing carriage arrangement, the parties reached an agreement in principle for continued carriage," DirecTV said in the complaint. "The following day, however, Tribune reneged on that agreement. Tribune later confirmed that its management had been overruled by the hedge fund and investment bank creditors."

Tribune has been in bankruptcy court since 2008. Its biggest creditors include hedge funds and investment banks like Oaktree Partners, Angelo, Gordon & Co., JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Citibank.

"DirecTV negotiated with Tribune for months, only learning on the very eve of expiration that it had never been dealing with anyone who had the authority required under the [FCC] rules," the satellite giant said in the complaint. "Indeed, DirecTV still does not know with whom it should be speaking -- Tribune's CEO or its associated hedge funds and investment banks."

According to the filing, Tribune has sought FCC approval to transfer its broadcast licenses to a new entity that will eventually emerge in Tribune's reorganization. Three of its largest creditors -- JP Morgan, Angelo Gordon and Oaktree Partners -- will control 30% of the voting and equity interests.

But according to DirecTV, the FCC has not yet approved those transfers, meaning the hedge funds and investment banks have no current authority over Tribune's broadcast operations.

Tribune tried to clarify its position in a statement on April 1, claiming it "never had an agreement, handshake or otherwise, with DirecTV on Thursday, March 29 or any other day."

"To say differently is inaccurate and misleading," Tribune continued, adding that DirecTV has a long track record of similar types of actions.

DirecTV is asking the FCC to require Tribune to immediately negotiate in good faith, including appointing a negotiating team with the authority to reach an agreement and requiring Tribune to grant DirecTV an extension of at least one month to continue talks.

Let 'em sink. Tribune is NOT too big to fail.
The FCC has been loathe to intervene in any of the previous negotiations that lead to channel blackouts.

If DirecTV's allegations are true, that is, the creditors of Tribune overruled their management, the FCC will be forced to seek a "cooling down" period and return these channels to DirecTV while the issues are sorted out.

Someone needs to develop a ticker stripper along with those icon strippers. I've noticed in the last few years the channel icons In the corner are growing in size. For plasma owners this is deadly. Discovery being one of the largest offenders here.

The "bug" is also slowly moving from the bottom right corners to the 1/3 portion of my Plasma!

The proper Chicago Tribune link is...

and the LA TIMES sent me an email bulletin about the same result (of course they are OWNED by the Chicago Tribune) and

Channel 5 KTLA-DT is baaaaaaaack!

The ultimate issue is sidetracked by the FCC and what is the over/under on the next DirecTV fee increase?

Not just WGN.

From The Chicago Tribune

Tribune Co. and DirecTV reached a deal Wednesday night on retransmission fees, ending a four-day blackout that cut off programming to millions of subscribers.

The agreement puts 23 Tribune stations and WGN America back on the satellite provider effective 8 p.m. Chicago time. The programming was cut off March 31, after Tribune Broadcasting said it failed to reach an agreement with the satellite television provider before its contract expired.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tribune timed the contract to expire on 4/1 so they can play this game knowing that the only value in WGN America is the live Cubs games.... Somethin' tells me re-runs of How I Met Your Mother and Scrubs isn't bringing home the bacon.

Business Notes
Tribune, DirecTV Hammer Out A Deal
23 Stations in 19 Markets Go Live in Time For MLB's Opening Day
By Mike Farrell, Multichannel News - Apr. 4, 2012

After a series of delays, false starts and one heated complaint to the Federal Communications Commission, DirecTV and Tribune Co. have reached a five-year retransmission consent agreement covering 23 broadcast TV stations in 19 markets across the country.

According to DirecTV, Tribune restored all of their local signals and cable network WGN America to the satellite giant's customers at approximately 9 p.m. ET.

The stations were set to go dark on DirecTV on March 31 and as early as March 30, DirecTV believed it had a handshake agreement to continue to air the stations. That hope was dashed by Tribune, which denied reaching any kind of agreement at the time with the satellite giant, and the stations went dark to about 5 million DirecTV customers in major markets like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago on March 31.

On April 2, DirecTV filed a complaint with the FCC claiming Tribune did not negotiate in good faith, adding that it had reached a deal with top management before the March 31 deadline, only to be rebuffed by Tribune's creditors.

That all appears to be water under the bridge, as both sides confirmed late Wednesday that a long-term deal has been reached. The stations, many of which broadcast Major League Baseball games, will be available to DirecTV subscribers in time for opening day on April 5.

"We are extremely pleased to have reached an agreement with DirecTV and to return our valuable news, entertainment and sports programming to DirecTV subscribers," Tribune Broadcasting president Nils Larsen said in a statement. "On behalf of Tribune Broadcasting, I want to thank viewers across all of our markets for their support, understanding and patience during the negotiating process."

Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, DirecTV said in its press release that the deal is for five years.

"We're pleased that Tribune and their creditors now recognize that all DirecTV wanted from day one was to pay fair market rates for their channels," said executive vice president of Content, Strategy and Development, Derek Chang in a statement. "It's unfortunate that Tribune was willing to hold our customers hostage in an attempt to extract excessive rates, but in the end we reached a fair deal at market rates similar to what we originally agreed to on March 29. On behalf of our customers, we are very happy to close the deal and put this behind us."

But DirecTV seems to want to keep its call for retrans reform alive, adding at the end of its statement: "Five million American homes blacked out from their local broadcaster cries out for an examination in Washington, D.C of the decades old telecom law that encourages these impasses."

Check out and see what digital sub channels you can receive with the antenna. There are some interesting ones:

5.2 & 5.3
31.9 - Chinese State TV in English
18.2 - sometimes NHK Japan Network in English
30.1 - Ion West in HD
24.1 - PBS Inland Empire in HD
24.2, 24.3 & 24.4
13.2 - Bounce TV
56.3 - MeTV

I do not know what is available from San Diego...

We will get a fee increase in February just like we do every year. Probably about $3.

Is there a known problem with the search function?

The other night I did a search for the movie Anchorman and even though the title came up, when I clicked it it said that there were no viewings available. Then, later when I just happened to be scrolling through the guide, what do I see? Yup, the movie Anchorman on TBS later on that night.

This isn't the first time I've done a search where it doesn't find what I'm looking for, but it actually is being shown. Is there a issue with this and more importantly is DirecTV aware of it?

I have encountered that search glitch several times myself.

Subchannels in San Diego are

KFMB 8.2-MeTV
KGTV 10.15-TV Azteca
KGTV 10.2-THE COOL TV
KNSD 39.2-NBC California Nonstop
KSWB 69.2-Antenna TV
KSWB 69.3-this TV

I'm sure there are a few more out there, but those are the main subchannels shown in the San Diego DMA.

Tom: Is Time-Warner Cable San Diego the old Cox, or another provider?

Now with the advent of Fox Sports San Diego (carried now by DirecTV), does the 4SD channel still exist and does T-WCSD still carry it?

Does Time-Warner Cable San Diego carry the new FOX Sports San Diego? If so, is it on the lowest basic tier, or a more expensive one?

I assume these are older seasons of those two shows being run in syndication on WGN? (i.e., they are Fox shows and not CW, the latter of which is the only first run national programming WGN carries).

He indicated in an earlier post that he lost the Tribune Broadcasting FOX affiliate in San Diego. Besides no OTA antenna will pickup WGN all the way from San Diego!

Also, WGN-America, the national affiliate carried by DirecTV (previously known as "SUPERSTATION WGN") does not broadcast any original CW programming. You're thinking of WGN-DT the local affiliate in Chicago, which is a CW affiliate.

This is a well known and well documented problem that started with the same release as the new HD GUI.

I was actually going to call them about this today.

Chiller is going to have a movie coming up soon (Ghoul). I did a search, and it found a movie match for it, but failed to find any listings for it.

But, when I looked up online at Chiller's website, I found the exact day and time and there it was right in the guide when I went to it.

I'm not concerned some of my keyword searches will never record anything even if it actually appears in the guide.

Unacceptable.

A) Cox Communications & Time Warner Cable are separate cable companies

B) 4SD is still in existence although it mainly shows infomercials, local origination programming, "Sam The Cooking Guy, & San Diego State University sporting events and yes TWC SD still carries 4SD.

C) Time Warner Cable as of now has not come to a carriage agreement with Fox Sports San Diego, so needless to say I'm pissed because Time Warner Cable doesn't want to pay as they claim 400% more for Padres baseball even 4SD & FSSD are 2 entirely different channels. While I do have alternatives (fortunately a friend of mine has Slingbox in Newport Breach connected to DirecTV , so I can watch the Dodgers/Padres series on Prime Ticket & KCAL 9. Also, I can fake my smartphone's location outside of the Padres market and watch the game using MLB At Bat, granted it's not the most ideal situation, but it's better than nothing) I'm not happy about this.

They know about it, whether they know how to fix it is the question. Lots of talk around the web about this topic. They are saying that if you do a red button reset and then do another one as soon as the program comes back on it will flush your guide. Then after about 24 hours when it has been rebuilt the problem is gone and Search works the way it should for about 3 weeks. Then you need to do it again.

yes, I've had problems too.

I dvr all the Laker games but the search function never shows their games that are broadcast on TNT, even though "Lakers" is in both the title and description of the program (and search parameters were not limited to sports programs).

You can also flush the guide by doing a menu reset ({MENU} > {Parental, Fav's & Setup} > {System Setup} > {Reset} > {Restart Receiver} and then {DASH}) and then a second menu reset within 30 minutes of the first.
