Im only 800 feet from their box and they ran a new line from the alleyway to my house and rewired the house. The line are not the problem but they cant seem to figure out why it resets itself. I was looking at the DirectTV offers and I will lose a precious HD channel or two but would go with the Choice Xtra ($34.99/mo for 12 months then $58.99/mo for the last 12 months). In all it comes out to $62.99/mo for the first twelve months then $86.99/mo for the last twelve months. With AT&T we pay $77/mo. We have 4 HDTV's and usually only three of them are in use but sometimes all four of them are. With their new Home Media Center is it like AT&T's stream count? Like right now we can only use four HDTV streams at once which includes any shows that are recording plus what is being watched live. Does HMC's 5 at once mean you can have 4 shows recording plus watching one live? There are a couple of days a week when we have three shows recording at the same time when the season is right. And we can't watch 1080i HD because the audio gets all messed up, so we have to watch 720p to get HD quality and audio at the same time. I always load up the Direct TV cart but never can quite push that last button to do it.
Also, we got Uvrese when it was first available in our neighborhood and they offered a U400 at the time and that is what we had. Well to save money we downgraded to the U300 but they forgot to remove all the movie channels so we are getting them free right now which make it even harder to switch, but at the same time I only watch an occasional movie.
I was recently in a very similar situation like you. I also had AT&T U-Verse TV & DSL Internet for the last 5 years before finally making the switch to Directv while still keeping AT&T U-Verse DSL.
I like you started off on the U-400 plan which was nice but was just way to overpriced.Heck when I downgraded to the U-300 plan and kept HBO, HD additional channels, and the sports pack, and I also had the Filipino channel package for my mom our bill was coming out $138 a monthly and that wasn't including our U-Verse DSL bill. Now after switching to Directv and choosing the Premier package I'm paying $80 a month for the first 3 month then if I choose to keep all the premium movie channels it goes up to $125.But I heard you can call Directv and tell them you don't want the premium channels and the CSR will usually give you a nice discount to keep those channels.I'll also note that I have a 3 month free trial on the additional HD channels.I also have a filipino channel package again for my mom, Directv has 3 different monthly price plans for this.
Keep in mind that I got this current price after signing up through AAA's membership program which gives me $10 off for 20 months.I then managed to stack $10 off for 10 months with the refer a friend discount.I also got another $10 off for 24 months off the $20 a month advanced receiver fee Directv charges for having a HR34 DVR by signing up for the auto bill pay option.
I currently have a 1 HR34 HMC DVR and 3 HR25 HD receivers in my house.
Performance wise I can honestly say that Directv picture quality, sound quality, and DVR is a lot better than AT&T U-Verse.
I can confirm that you can record 4 HD shows at one time and watch 1 HD event at the same time.Last Saturday I was recording 2 James Bond movies in HD and was recording PPV UFC 148 and also the Nonito Donaire boxing fight in HD on HBO and was watching the boxing fight all at the same time.
The only bugs that I experienced so far with the HR34 DVR was that the boxing fight I recorded froze & locked up on me while I was playing it on 1 of my HR25 HD receivers in my house.I've read up and kept track of the threads on dbstalk regarding the HR34 and they say that after the latest software update was released that HR34 is running a lot better.
Sorry for the long post. But bottom line is YES I would recommend making the switch to Directv sometime soon while they have great promo's going on.I'm getting more content & channels, better HD DVR & HD Receivers while at the same time paying less monthly compared to what I was paying on AT&T U-Verse's U-300 plan.
If you have any questions on which deals are available reply in here or send me a PM and I will help you.
I have also attached a copy of my monthly billing statement for this month.
I myself made the switch on 06-30-12 and I'm very pleased overall .Edited by Filipinoyakuza - 7/9/12 at 5:36pm
