Yes, this...there must be a comprehensive list of HD broadcasts in a table with each of the major cable/satellite providers showing y/n if they carry the feed currently.

DOH! I have used this very chart before...Forgot it was right here on our beloved forum! cool.gif

Thanks for the link!
Is there a similar chart for DVR features? I am considering switching from BrightHouse to DirecTV and am trying to find out feature differences. Especially regarding whole house DVR usage.

I hate that the stickies don't stay at the top now, seems like that is what a stickie is for, isn't it?

Hi, I'm considering moving back to Dtv and I'm looking for some input.

1) I currently have Charter w/ 2 TIVO XL boxes and I know that they cannot be used on Directv's system, however I'd like to know how the HR34/24 compare? Can you do season passes with those models?

2) If I switch back to Dtv, I'm thinking 1 HR34, 1 HD dvr and 2 hd receivers with whole home dvr service. I previously had whole home w/hr24s. Wouldn't this give me the most recording options with the least amount of conflict (Sundays are slam packed between my hubby's and my needs)? Also, I figure that if I had a problem with one dvr there's always one to fall back on.

3) How stable is the hr34 now?

Thanks in advance.
Sheila

1. yes.
2. depends on your needs. That would be 7 tuners.
3. Still some kinks, but nothing major.

Having been a very early TiVo adopter, I think I got my first of many back in '99 when they first came out, I can say I more than happy wiht the Directv HR2x units, they perform as i would like. I have no qualms recommending them to folks.

That said if you want to spend the bucks you can get one of the new D TiVos, but they lack much of the functionality on the HR units, and at this point I'd go HR long before I went Tivo with Directv.

I would have gone with the tivo if it had MRV, just got an HR34 HMC DVR to go with my HR24. 7 tuners total.

1) I'd be willing to bet you'll gain features that you didn't have before. Cable boxes, in general, tend to lack a lot of the extra stuff with their equipment. For example, one thing I love on the D* DVRs that most cable boxes don't have, is a 30 second skip forward you can turn on instead of simply fast forwarding. Some of the other features like Youtube and Pandora access are nice, too, though I don't really use them.

2) That's purely a personal thing. It depends on your need for boxes in other rooms, how much you record and whether you want more space created by more DVRs or simply want one central hub for it.

3) Very stable, it just gets a bit pokey at times. The early DVRs were very buggy, but really improved rapidly. Based on stability and features, I see no reason at all to bother with Tivo. I like D*'s system better. Had they gotten Tivo a few years ago, I might have bitten. Now, I couldn't care less.

Did you get the HMC from Directv or 3rd party? How is the performance?

Got it from a 3rd party. Directv will reimburse me some credit. They couldn't send a truck until Sep. 20.

They're available here as PDF files that you can download, just found them. You will need to d/l the one for your time zone.

Sure, if they all watch the same tuner. You can see different tuners over MOCA using a client box from DirecTV or certain Samsung TV's. Each screen will cost you $6/month.

No, it's only sold with Sunday Ticket. However some people have been able to have it added for free as a standalone but results with that vary. See: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=208243

Speaking of the Red Zone Channel, did anyone else notice a strange graphic surrounding the letters RZC? I don't recall ever seeing this, but it looked like some strange box that was just pasted over the other graphics.

I don't understand why they are giving it away for free when they could be making money off of it by providing it as a stand alone for say $99.00. People would buy it.

Well, first, I don't think the offer is open to everyone to get it for free. You have to ask for it and you might have to jump through some hoops to get a yes out of them.

Second, it's an enticement to subscribe to ST. It's a small prize at the carnival to get you to go for the giant panda.

D* seems to be very quiet about this, but there will be a free preview of HBO and Cinemax this weekend.

No mystery. I received a message from DTV a day or two ago.

Chicagoans,

I've been getting real bad picture flickering/rolling, audio dropouts, and picture freezes on WYCC (PBS channel 20) for about 3 weeks now.

I contacted them and they said that Directv customers had been complaining about it but they hadn't heard from anybody else, (OTA-cable) and it must be a DTV problem.

Has anybody else noticed this, particularly if using anything other than DTV?

Thanks.
