By any chance is there a Showtime free preview this weekend? I wanted to check out Ray Donovan, it looks like it might be interesting.

Strangely, they had it last weekend. at least they did on Directv.

Edit: looking at the guide, looks like they are gonna show the Pilot episode on Saturday 7/6 @ 8:00pm ET on AUDHD, Directv's channel. Channels 101,239,334,500

I set my genie to record the series Continuum for first run shows on SYFY but the show has failed to record. I noticed that the first run air dates I assume are the dates they aired on the Canadian channel showcase. Is that the reason they failed to record?

Are there any free 1080p/24 programs?
I haven't seen any recently but there have been some.
There used to be a test channel for 1080p/24, but I haven't seen it in a long time. It might still be there though.

I've noticed on a few occasions that movies on AMC HD have an awful amount of Soap Opera Effect. ? Never noticed it before and it's not my TV. Anyone else notice this lately?
What, pray tell, is the soap opera effect?

Its like when on your 240hz or 120hz hdtv when you put the motionflow setting on.

It interpolates extra frames to smooth out the picture so on film it gives it a look more like video hence soap opera effect.

Kinda like how PJ shot The Hobbit in the higher framerate.

I have motionflow set on high cause i actually like that look though as it makes things seem like theyre happening right now in real time like looking out a window instead of a jagged choppy old film look.

I like it too but my current TV, (Samsung), judders like crazy with it on so I leave it on clear and it doesn't produce a Soap Opera Effect. Again last night on AMC HD I noticed Underworld had it.

Anyone here had much experience with 3D on DirecTV? When I watch ESPN 3D or 3Net, using the glasses that give me such great 3D when I play Avatar or other 3D movies, it's terrible quality. I wouldn't mind paying for a 3D movie like Oz The Great and Powerful on Channel 105 or so, but not if it's as bad as the free 3D channels. My equipment is an Epson PowerLite Pro 6010 projector and Epson glasses, plus an Onkyo NR709 receiver.

DirecTV 3D Channels look great on my Samsung F7100 with active shutter glasses.

ESPN 3D is native 720p and 3Net is native 1080i.

Avatar is native 1080p - its going to look better than lower or non-progressive sources.

I cancelled my DirecTV account today after 8+ years today. We had some refer a friend discounts that expired, which put our bill just over $100/month. We actually suspended our account for the past couple of months, watching OTA and clear QAM channels we get from our cable modem subscription, along with Netflix, in an attempt to "cut the cord." But..it's not for us. Internet through Comcast was another $50/month. So, we signed up for U-Verse; $99/month for the U-200 package, 3 receivers, HD package, DVR, and 12mb internet for 1-year. No up front costs, and $125 in gift cards. Price goes up $56 after the first year, but its just a 1 year commitment, so we'll probably look into other options at that point.

The CSR offered $25 off/month for a year, but the price difference was just too much. My parents have U-Verse, and I like the GUI, and the channels look good to me.

If I were you, I'd cancel whatever form of payment you have been using. Even if they told you that there won't be any ETF fees, D* likes to *$#& people who cancel their service a magically add a 2 year agreement to contracts. They will auto charge your account and then send you the receipt.

Thanks, I'll consider that. I do have a ~$100 credit that is supposed to be deposited back to me within 30 days, since we suspended our account just after a new billing cycle. The CSR confirmed that, although I'm not sure how they distribute the money back (check, credit on credit card, etc).

When I disco'd last year, they sent me a check, even though I was always on CC auto-pay - & surprisingly, I did receive it within a month of disco'g...

What do you mean? What programming?
Looks like most of it is back, most of the major stations were out USA-HD, Syfy-HD, FX-HD, AMC-HD, a lot of stations, CNBC-HD still appears to be out.
Oh. I had no idea. O_o

Now I gotta remember to check my DVR later to see if I had anything I had planned to record, not record.

I think it went out around 6:30 pm ET, don't know what is going on, my only recording tonight are TNT and as far as I know TNT wasn't one of the stations that went out. USA-HD is still out, but I think it was on a just a few minutes ago. But Syfy, FX and Tru are back on... don't know what is going on.

Directv Service says on Twitter they are working on the outage.
Really strange...caught the outage so I scheduled Covert Affairs and Suits for 12 and 1 am times as it looked as if the problem was corrected. Stated to play Covert Affairs on my DVR this morning, had picture but no sound. Well I record them again tonight when they repeat. Hope its fixed.

The HD Extra Pack has moved to Channels 565-573.

Hopefully, this will clear up some of the MPEG-4 artifacts that were on MGMHD.

Why would it? They're just remapping the channel number. It's likely still in the same place on the bird with the same channels with it.
It would appear that they're just making room in the channel list for more "Movie Channel" a/o "Showtime" feeds.
