DirecTV HDTV - Page 483

FYI to all with some info I saw on another board, Cinemax is only $6.50/month for 3 months right now. I called to take advantage yesterday and the rep also gave me HBO free for 3 months.

The other day I added the HD Extra Pack online thru my account which was free for me for 3 months.

There's a free preview of the Dog Channel (Ch. 354) until 8/14. When I put it on my dog reacted as he usually does to something that's not food related. He ignored it. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, my dogs look at and indicate if it isn't HD, they aren't going to watch...

Is there any word of new HD channels coming to DirecTV? I have noticed about five English Premiere League channels have popped up at 490 or so this past weekend. I'm hoping Al Jazeera America will be in HD on launch day when it takes over Current TV.

Only Playboy, QVC, and Galavision coming soon. They don't even carry Al Jazeera (English) in SD, not much chance to get it in HD.

Any way to keep DirecTV from calling you every single frigging day? I'm about to drop them because of this annoyance. I don't see any setting under my account to ban phone calls from them.

When will they come out with a smaller dish to replace the Slimline 5LNB? I find it's too big.

Are you wanting an exact date or our best guess? smile.gif

How does its size bother you?

Why are they calling you? What do they want? I've been with D for 10 years and don't ever recall getting a call....

lol Best guess. It's on my roof at the front of the house and it looks kinda ugly. I guess I should have had them put it at the back of the house.

I hear ya. The first contractors that came to install my service mounted it damn near above my front door. WTF. I made them come back out and move it to the corner of the house.

Like Matt, I've been with them for a long time and they never call me either.

No calls from them, here, either. However, for quite a time, my sister-in-law was called often from one of those strip-mall independent contractor stores that offers both DirecTV and Dish. And, probably, liquor and lottery tickets, too.

Some Mad Dog 20/20, a couple of scratch offs, and satellite TV. Where do I sign?biggrin.gif

No phone calls for me either.

I laughed when I saw "Mad Dog 20/20" on the preview pane. Middle school memories! biggrin.gif

On the dotted line when they release you from jail. biggrin.gif

I’ve been with DirecTV for about 4 months. I cancelled my initial free premiums when they expired, and it took them less than a month to call and ask if I wanted the HD pack for free for the next three months. After asking them several times if I was under any kind of obligation and they said no, I said yes. Gimme, gimme, gimme. smile.gif

I've had the 3 months of free HD Extra Pack for about 6 years now. I just have a reminder in my calendar to drop/add it every 3 months.

Are you sure it's DirecTV and not a local installer?

Generally, the only reason D* would be calling daily is to get you to pay your bill on time.

Best guess? Never.

In fact, plan on them getting even bigger. You're looking at over a half a dozen satellites at once. That wide dish is the only way to reflect all those signals to the LNB. At some point, the dish will likely get larger when the time comes for them to exand the fleet.

As D* has added more satellites over the years, the dish has gotten progressively larger. I anticipate that to continue. At the very least, it's unlikely to get smaller.

I have a reminder in my calendar to take out my recycling every other week (they don't collect every week here).

I like your reminder better.

You have to call or email them, simply tell them to stop calling.

OTOH, there is a size limit with respect to the legal HOA(et al) exemptions from the FCC ... and I think we're already exactly at that limit. (IIRC, it's been a while since I looked at all that.)

I suspect D* ( and E*) would bend over backwards to stay inside the limit rather than fight the battle(s) at the FCC/Congress all over again.

Well technically DirecTV does have Al Jazeera English on for a few hours on Link TV. Al Jazeera America is replacing Current TV on Tuesday August 20th. No word on if it'll have an HD broadcast but I was hoping someone might of heard something.

So, are we actually confirmed for getting these new Fox Sports channels this Saturday?

Interesting and you are probably right about them getting bigger,

Initially, the Fox Sports 1 network will replace the Speed Channel, #607, IIRC. Later it will add a second channel.

That will be Fox Sports 2, replacing Fuel.....

You are also right, FS1 will replace Speed and it will move to Channel 219, replacing MAV TV (which will move to Channel 214 on Aug. 21st).

Do you have to get the Sports Pack to get Fox Sports? the one which had Fox Soccer and Speed channel?
