My guess, they'll keep moving optional services with specific audiences (foreign language channels, for example) to the outer most birds so only those customers will have to have the largest of the dishes - or they might have to go to a multiple dishes for some installs.

Plus, I'm sure they'll continue to offer smaller, more "HOA friendly" dishes, but they likely won't work as well on those cusp birds. It's already a challenge to get those newest birds even with the proper dish and good line of sight. I can't imagine trying that with the same size dish if they have any new birds further out from the current cluster.

For what it's worth, dishes are covered up a meter in size. The current ones (if I remember correctly) are a little shy of that, so there's a little room to grow.

I can't be certain, but you might need it for those. It's possible they are included with whatever the 2nd tier programming package is called now (I'm on an old package from way back in1998, so I haven't kept up).

Best guess, if you currently get Speed and Fuel in whatever package you've chosen, you probably will get FS1 and FS2 when they switch over.

However, for the Fox RSNs for your area, those should be included - hence the $2 RSN charge they now want everyone to pay.

Sounds about right ... IIRC, the FCC "exemptions" were based on the size of the old Primestar dishes. I don't know if multiple dishes are "safe," but I do see a lot of multiple dish E* installations around here. Thankfully, we haven't been infected with the HOA virus, we even had a few BUDs lingering in backyards as recently as a year ago.

We are almost at the 1 meter limit allowed by the FCC (current dishes are around 32 inches IIRC). The solution is multiple smaller dishes, which are covered by the OTARD rule (discussed below).

On a related note, it's a shame that so many HOAs simply ignore the law and continue to place bans on dishes and antennas. The FCC's rules are very clear on this point. Here's a fact sheet with the important points: http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/consumerdish.pdf

I fought my HOA for my OTA antenna and fought several others for dishes for my friends and family and have been 100% successful. The key is getting in contact with the HOA's legal counsel and simply sending them the sheet I linked above. They have no argument after that.

They just agreed to a carriage deal yesterday FS1 will be replacing Speed and FS2 will replace Fuel. I believe they will be on channels 210 and 211 but haven't confirmed that.

I'm wrong again. FS1 will be on 219 according to their site. No word on FS2.

DirecTV just added MavTV on 219 (SD only). Where's it moving to if FS1 is going to be on 219?

Do you have a link to where they list the channel # for FoxSports1? Thanks!

Will Directv have both FS1 and still keep speed?

Speed will cease to exist. Some of it's programming will make the move to FS1&2 but the Speed channel is done.

I want to move to D* from E* in October and get Sunday Ticket but see that Wetv and Style aren't in HD. We don't care to watch anything in SD and from what I hear D*'s SD is really really poor so even in a pinch it wouldn't be worth it. Anybody have their ear to ground on when D* might be offering those?

Did you flip your letters?

Sd quality varies widely....
I'd say he's correct. DirecTV's SD quality is awful across the board. And awful is being kind. I haven't seen Dish's SD, but I can't imagine DirecTV's SD being better. I skip any channel not in HD myself.

I don't know when we'd see those channels though.

Fox Sports 1 HD is channel 219 and Fox Sports 2 HD is channel 618.

Has anyone else lost all signals on the 99(s) satellite? I can't get any of my locals on any of my receivers or DVR's. the signal test shows 0 or - for all transponders on 99(s). All other satellites are okay.

If it's only on one receiver, do a hard reboot (power disconnected for a minute, then plug back in). If it's still an issue or is happening on ALL of your receivers, then we'll need to start some troubleshooting ideas.

I just saw that this morning...HALLELUJAH !!!! finally. I hope HSN and ShopNBC will follow their lead asap.

Now there's only a few MAJOR ones that really needs to be HD like Current TV. All that documentary looks really gross in SD.

This is the case of don't blame the messenger...it mostly depends on what quality TV you have. You have a cheapie Dynex, you're gonna get crappy SD. Ever since I got my LG LED,...some SD channels look nearly HD...YMMV big time on this.

I've had DT for years. My setup is a pioneer elite SC 37 and a Sony 929. Everything goes to the reciver and then 1 HDMI to the tv. All cables are high end monster. I also have a Dune media player. An issue I've had forever is subtle audio dropouts. I only watch HD channels and only in the 500's which are movies. Recently I've been noticing allot of pixilazation. I do have the genie system so something recorded in the BR and played in the BR still pixilates, but watching in the LR it seems to get a bit choppy. I have not really noticed the audio dropouts until recently and it goes with the pixilazation. Im thnking of calling DT but thought I would post first.

I hate to be the one to tells you that Current TV becomes Al Jazeera America on Tuesday. I am hoping that will eventually get bumped up to HD.

Don't tell everyone that you use Monster cables, they're kind of an ongoing joke in all of the HD forums. Just say that you use good cables.

As it so happens, one of my tvs is an LG LED as well. But I do find it hard to believe that any amount of upconverting wizardry could ever make D*'s highly compressed SD look anywhere close to HD. O_o

D*'s SD isn't even close to the SD of other providers, like FiOS, much less D*'s own great HD quality.
