I've been with them 11 years and always been a hassle to get new equipment. Haven't gotten anything new in 3 years. Had premiums most of the time but never took Sunday Ticket.
I've asked about newer equipment and they started with, you pay the upfront fee, now $400 for Genie. I last wrote them about the fact that I could get a better deal on Comcast. They replied that they'd give me a Genie and a Mini for $50.
Well even with that, my cost for TV and Internet would be about $180. With Comcast, I'm getting a 2-year package of all the premiums and Red Zone channel and much faster Internet, for $120 first year, $140 second year. I purchased Tivo Roamio and Tivo Mini with Lifetime service for $1200. So two years to break even but more premiums and better Internet.
I haven't called to cancel D* yet. They'll probably sweeten the deal but they can't get me better Internet, unless they're willing to eat the whole cost of $60 a month.
I have HBO and Showtime and the lowest package I can get that has Speed channel now an NBC sports channel for F1 and the Tour De France. No Sunday ticket, and I have 3 DVR's and 1 client, HR 44, HR 24 and a HR 23 and a C41 client.
I have Time Warner internet but used to have Verizon and that was 160bucks a month for home phone, 2 cellphones, with 500 minutes between, a junk phone and no G anything at 25 cents for a text, and the home internet, but D* gave me 10 off for having Verizon. What a rip V is, now we have 2 G4 smart phones with unlimited everything but talk, 500 minuets each for 70 bucks a month for both. I pay about 130 bucks a month for D* but it would be 150 with out the discounts. By the way the cheapest way for us to go is just internet, no home phone and Magic jack that does not need to be plugged into a computer, our services is 29 bucks a month for hi speed internet with Time Warner
The Tivo is pricey for this day and age and you own the thing so if it goes down who are you going to call? That is one of the things I like best about D* they own the stuff, also I have the warranty program for 6 bucks a month and that is one of the reasons I have no sweat service with them, I know its really a bribe, but it works for me.
