He is receiving it because DirecTV is running a free preview of NBA TV HD for HD Access subscribers for the entire 2007-2008 NBA season.

Ok, but what I was wondering is if Directv has any plans to give us an HD CW channel? It did not show up here in Spokane when we got our locals in HD.

That's just VITC (Vertical Interlaced Time Code) you're seeing. It happens a lot with things sourced from Betacam or Digital Betacam when they're upconverted. It's rare to see it in native HD. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes.

Los Angeles (KTLA 5)
Chicago (WGN 9)
Philadelphia (WPSG 57)
Atlanta (WUPA 69)
Sacremento (KMAX 31)
Raleigh (WLFL 22)

Does anyone else find that adding a package, such as HD access, between billing cycles results in a higher charge than the listed price?

They say pro rating so they are charging a month ahead plus the remaining part of the month?

So if I should drop the package months or years later, I should get a credit?

NBAtv doesn't look like it's in high def to me. Still standard def on channel 601. Unless it's on a different channel, or I'm missing something....

Check the channel name, it's NBAHD, if it doesn't say that it's the SD channel. And I just checked it's still there.

For some reason all the Starz and Showtime HD stations do not appear in my guide anymore. Not that it really matters because I don't get those stations but I did think it was strange. Anyone have an idea why this would happen?

thanks

Also a former Comcast guy....but concur w/ Tool2Die4. Glad I went w/ D* - the only current/past provider I had never been with (was an E* guy years ago, one of the few who signed up w/ VOOM long before the E* buyout, Comcast-er since '03). Best provider I've had yet. Great PQ/AQ and an OnDemand function that should soon rival Comcast's.

I saw this recently as well.

On another note: NHLHD says I haven't purchased the channel. What package do I need to get this one?

I had an upgrade done yesterday and the Directv rep said that they were working on the HD channel lineup as we spoke. She also said that if there were any problems later last night to do a receiver reset
post #2388 of 14318
I got a message from D* the other night saying that my HD Tivo needs to be upgraded because it will stop working soon as well as my dish. The message also mentioned that my upgrade would be free. I called the number and the rep confirmed my new dish and HD DVR would indeed be free. She also confirmed my HD Tivo would stop working soon. I was under the impression that the MPEG 2 channels would not be shut down for a while. I would like to ideally move the HD Tivo to my bedroom. Will it work with the new dish? I'm in Los Angeles area. Thanks.

Panther,

The thread title still says 49 channels, looks like 50 according to the first post.

It's 40 "new" HD nationals, plus 9 RSNs (as part of the 2007 HD Rollout).

NHL bumped it from 48 to 49.

The good news is practically all of the recent adds came from the "unannounced, but showed up in engineering mode" category. That's the category MSG is in.

Corrected.

I'm out of contract with D* and about to buy an HDTV... I've read the horrible reports about the HR20, but D* has so many HD channels.... "should I stay or should I go?"

The HR20 is an excellent DVR. It had some issues on release, but all of the major issues were ironed out months and months ago.

Really? Well, that's great to hear, but I don't often hear it. It's been hard to find someone with something good to say about it. I know there are different models, too 100, 700, is one better than the other? Hate to suffer with fewer HD Channel options because their HD DVR is crap.

There are two type of people in the world. People who irrationally love the TiVo interface and can't give it up and everybody else.

If you fall into the everybody else segment of the population, the consensus is that:

1) the HR20 is clearly better then Scientific Atlanta and Motorola HD DVRs offered by cable companies.

2) Dish 622/722 is favored in some areas (such as PiP, external storage)

3) HR20 favored in other areas (VOD, media extender)

Now, there is some incredibly misleading advertising out there, don't get sucked in by it.

For example on their website Dish claims their HD DVR records "Up to 55 hours" while DirecTV's is "only 20 hours". The truth is they are comparing the maximum recording time of their DVR (6-8 mbps mpeg4 recording only) to the worst-case theoretical minimum of DirecTV's (19.39 maxed bandwidth mpeg2 recording). In an apples to apple comparison, the difference is the Dish Network claim of up to 55 hours vs. the DirecTV claim of up to 50 hours.

At first I had trouble with the DirecTV DVR. After replacement (at no cost to me by DirecTV), it works as good as (if not better than) TIVO. I am exceptionally pleased (so far) with DirecTV's HD picture quality and DVR.
