'Big Bang Theory' in HDTV on CBS - Page 2

I just hope they don't overdo the "I'm a geek and have absolutely no clue whatsoever how to talk to women." It's one thing to be uneasy and say the wrong thing around girls, or not say anything at all like the Indian guy, or be a dork like the Nintendo controller-belt guy, but the be so oblivious to personal interaction is just stupid. But Kaley is cute so I'll record the next episode and hope they come up with some new jokes.

I had the ''mmmm....ok" feeling from the BBT pilot. I felt the actors played the characters more gay then geeky. Hopefully the actors will come into the characters a little better. I may give this show a few more episodes before I get bored with it.

I enjoyed the first two episodes except for the laugh track, it really needs to go. It's so distracting and basically just annoying.

Agreed, really like this show, but man that laugh track is so wrong.

All CBS sitcoms, including top rated Two and Half Men, have laugh tracks. They are all filmed before live audiences. It actually is not a laugh track it is the actual audience laughing.

I really had little hope for this one. In fact, the pilot was a freebie downloaded to Tivo a few weeks ago and we almost didn't watch it. After we did, we set it up as a season pass. There have been many sitcoms that are high on situation and low on comdey. this one was good and the second episode was as well. I am having a bit of trouble figuring out where they will take it, as most of the funny parts have to do with them not knowing each other, but as of now it is enjoyable.

Not enough 30min quick distractions on TV anymore.

The thing that amazes me with this show is how much less critical acclaim it got then say "Back To You", yet people have found this show, because it is killing Back To You in the ratings, and it is in a much tougher time slot up against Dancing With The Stars.

Back To You debuted at 3.1 in the 18-49 demo, it dropped to 2.8, in week two and now it dropped to 2.4 in its third week. The Big Bang Theory debuted at 3.7 and dropped to 3.4 in its second week. I am glad people have noticed how funny the show is. It really is one of the better new sitcoms I have seen in a while. I would love to see it succeed.

I too find it very enjoyable and hope to see it stick on Mondays in that line-up

As would I. I enjoyed the show quite a bit. Back To You, however, wasn't very good IMO.

I am confused by your post, you say they have laugh tracks, but then at the end you say they don't have it, its an audience.

At any rate, if that is the studio laughing, then WOW, it sounds really weird, doesn't sound like a studio to me.
IIRC the actors were pausing during laughs and there were a couple of claps. I don't think either of that can be timed right with a laugh track. Maybe it's just an additional laugh track on top of the studio audience?

Sorry to confuse the situation. This show is filmed in front of a live audience. I have actually read some posts from a few people that attended tapings. What they do is film a lot of the scenes several times different ways to see what gets the best reaction from the audience. From what I have been told what you hear is the audience laughing, and it is not supplemented with a laugh track.

If you look here it tells you how to get tickets to see the show taped :

Here I went back and found this blogger who went to a taping of The Big Bang Theory. Look how she talks about the laughter, and how they shoot the scenes more than once to see which get the best laughs. See here :

I think this show is hilarious. I have added it to my season pass. Easily one of the best comedies on TV.

Laugh track or studio audience... it's kind of the reason i hate going to the theatre anymore, other people just... annoy me when I'm trying to watch something =P I don't need to hear other people laughing to decide if I find something funny, regardless of live or otherwise. At least it doesn't drown out the dialog, but it's still a laugh track, it's just recorded live instead of canned.

See this is why those type of titles really don't mean much =) I personally find the office to be not funny, I think I fell asleep the last time I watched it and I consider myself to be really easily amused. Maybe my life in tech jobs has insulated me from the lifestyle that would make that show funny.

Ditto. This show is really funny.

For anybody who is also a Roseanne fan, they are having a reunion this week on The Big Bang Theory when Sara Gilbert joins the cast as Johnny Galecki's love interest. If you remember, they played David and Darlene on Roseanne. You can see this weeks promo with video of them together here :

The show has some really funny parts, but it also has some really bad parts. The hot chick isn't that hot, and has absolutely no personality at all. It's like a black hole on the show. The friend who was playing DDR and talks to the blonde in Russian is the best character. He's freakin hysterical. Hopefully it continues to improve.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but very quietly The Big Bang Theory had another good week in the ratings. It improved its 18-49 demo from 3.3 to 3.4, built on its lead in How I Met Your Mother, and clobbered Chuck in the ratings by over 1 million viewers. It is amazing how Chuck gets all the ink and internet buzz, but The Big Bang Theory beat it in the ratings every single week.

From CBS Press Release :

Quote:

"The Big Bang Theory" Builds On Its Lead-In In Viewers And Demos"

THE BIG BANG THEORY was second in households (5.3/0, viewers (8.36m), adults 25-54 (4.0/09) and adults 18-49 (3.4/08, up +3% from 3.3/08 last week). THE BIG BANG THEORY built on its HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER lead-in by +2% in households, +8% in adults 25-54, +6% in adults 18-49 and added +330,000 viewers.

Both my wife and I both continue to find it LOL hilarious.
I have to say, this show now has 'record new all eps' status for me...thats DVR speak for those of us who no longer have Tivo to coin the covetted "season pass" phrase
Anyway, I am loving this show, hope it sticks around. Glad it is kicking Chucks idiotic butt.

Wow, that's great to hear. You never know with new shows nowadays what kind of ratings to expect. I am really glad this is doing well. It really is about the funniest show on TV right now IMO.

In my opinion, one of the best comedy shows on TV right now.

I think the timing is right for a "geek" show - we've got a generation of up and coming kids who are immersed in tech/interactive/web, and a Gen X crowd like myself who gets a good laugh out of the ol' school, nostalgic nerd-isms.

The Ebay bit was hilarious: "Hey someone bought the sword of x with buy-it-now" Other geek: "Now I have the sword of..." Hahahaha!

I was a little concerned that there might be a little TOO many in-jokes about the web, or off-the-wall references to quantum theories*, but it seems to work.

[* one my fave two-slit/wave/particles/observation bits was from Futurama - Announcer: "He wins by a Quantum fraction", Prof: "You changed the result by observing it!"]

The thing that just amazes me is how Chuck gets all the ink and chatter, but this show gets the ratings. I mean it actually beat Chuck 3.4 to 2.6 in the 19-49 demo and over a million total viewers. Apparently, viewers have found that this is a better show, and as a lover of this show I could not be more delighted.

Maybe you need a laugh track to find a show funny.
