Uh, just set your TV to any channel that doesn't have a bug or ticker on it and leave it on. Using a break-in DVD is one of the dumbest things ever.

True. And if the plasma has a "white screen", leave that on when you are not watching the plasma.

wtf are you serious?

By using a break-in DVD, all phosphors age consistently across the entire panel....that is the entire point of break-in, to age the phosphors! Otherwise, if you just use cable (SD or HD, doesn't matter), there will be areas on the panel (like DEAD center) that are on average brighter than say the edges.

Thanks for the clarification. I am using the DVD because I trust the advice of those who know more than me, but I didn't know the exact reason. Now I do, thanks.

I agree with NathanC completely. What about all those plasmas bought before there was a break-in dvd, such as mine. My panasonic 50 7uy is almost 3 years old and looks as good as the day I hung it on the wall.

I just purchased one of the break in dvd's from the eaprogramming site for my new Panasonic TC-P42G25. I just realized that his site has not been updated since 2009. Hopefully he still sells these. Anyone here know him?

A lot of new folks here at AVS lately and this myth of break-in slides just grew by leaps and bounds. I never used any slides either. I turned my new sets on, turned down contrast, changed a few settings and that's it till I got it calibrated. Never had any problem whatsoever.

It is not a myth that grew. It's just people are too stupid to comprehend what they read. The "break in" thread clearly explains the purpose is to rapidly stabilize your TV so that it can be calibrated and the calibration stays valid. This is the problem with people who get their info from forums. Stuff is removed from context and gets parroted by people who have no clue of what they're talking about.
